Nice one Ed! And thanks as always 😊 Apart from the beautiful look you get with the Alien, I love the compactness for the power, not to mention the flexibility of having RBG. Love that amazing interface on the ballast too. The ability to squeeze these into small spaces (which is the reality mostly right) is a big big plus. I mostly use an Aputure 300Dii and 120Dii, plus an old no name flex panel, a couple of little Pavo tubes. Only small downside with the Alien is the limitation of modifiers you can add, eg fresnels and projectors. Or can you? But the speed of setup! Anything that can circumvent the perennial producers’ “are we ready to go yet?” question is a great thing. And the waterproof thing for this price! Love your work Ed ❤

yeah it's a swiss army knife of a light! great for doc work when you're not sure what you're walking into and a great light for bouncing. I have found myself bringing it out on most shoots now just so I have it to solve what ever lighting issues I might have in the space. Impressed by the Pavotube too, will probably pick up some more soon.

Thanks man! Yeah, if you've ever used one, it's a lot like the Aputure Nova 300c but with much more output, lighter and waterproof. It's a good light to have to be adaptable in diff situations.

Loved the video!!! The colored shots were my favorite. I have the Godox Knowled 400 Bi. I saw your other video with the Godox 200 Bi. That was good too. Wish I would have gotten the 200, it' would have been easier to work with, it's smaller.
@EdProsserАй бұрын
I love my Godox, it's usually great if I'm working on my own and just lighting an interview shot. The Alien feels a bit more versatile with it's RGBWW - and higher output - so for the doc project featured in this vid - having some colour output was really useful to match the location lighting.

Great vid. Sorry for the weird question, but is that the Kupo stand with built-in boom at 10:18?
@EdProsserАй бұрын
wow, well spotted! YES! I literally just bought one and this was my first test using it. It is BLOODY heavy and big, but solid as hell. It's perfect for booming heavier lights, feels really well made, but it's not something you'll want to sling in and out of your car on a daily basis.

Hi, what is the difference between a LED light (e.g., Nanlite Forza 500) and a LED panel like the Godox F200Bi that you use? What are the main differences to consider when choosing one over the other?
@EdProsserАй бұрын
COB lights like the Forza tend to be a bit harder / more concentrated, all the LEDs are packed into a small area, so they're easier to shape and focus beams of light using modifiers like a reflector dish, spotlight or Fresnel. But you'll also need bulkier modifiers to soften up the light, softboxes etc.. Panels tends to be larger light sources, more diffuse / softer but sometimes harder to control, cut or shape. COB lights are also smaller and easier to transport. Panels are great if you need to evenly light larger areas, it needs too down lighting, flat lighting of objects etc. but the two kinds of light can be intermixed on most jobs.

Hey Ed! Unrelated but are you interested in the Sirui autofocus anamorphic lens that apparently works well in full frame?
@EdProsserАй бұрын
They did offer to send me one but no L mount version and atm I'd rather try the Apex, I think the image looks more interesting than the Sirui Anamorphics which are a bit too clean
@minktronicsАй бұрын
@EdProsser I also wanna see that apex but there are literally two videos that have test footage of them 😭 wondering if they also work well on full frame as it's those edges where you seem to get a lot of the distortion and fun particularly on the smaller crop factors

Dear Ed, is it possible to find out what exact format and codec and CBR/VBr etc. you upload to KZbin? Cause it`s just so outstanding quality I can`t get with my uploading. Can you give Davinci secret recipe pleeease? :)
@EdProsserАй бұрын
Sure I export from Resolve, I use Quicktime, H265 as my codec, under Quality I usually go to "restrict to" and use a bit-rate between 30,000 and 55000 Kb/s (I tend to use higher if the video has more movement or I really want to push quality, this vid was 45,000Kb/s I think ) and then under "Encoding Profile" I select Main 4:2:2 10
@ILZHOOАй бұрын
@@EdProsser much thanks to reply! I did very close to this, but KZbin didn’t give the same quality, I think it is because of different restrictions of different channels :) And my other idea that KZbin struggle with added noise and when you add it the overall quality is better. Anyway, thank you for your creations, after your video about 100mm macro I wish it would be my next lens, top notch demo :)
@EdProsserАй бұрын
@@ILZHOO are you also uploading in 4K? Grain settings are a lot of trial and error to get something that survives the KZbin compression! In some cases if it's too fine it can degrade the overall quality of the video.
@ILZHOOАй бұрын
@@EdProsser yes, it was 4k indeed, h265, but I convert it from 422 10bit to 8 bit for YT, maybe here is a problem…
@EdProsserАй бұрын
@@ILZHOO yes, export in the highest quality possible, KZbin will do it's own thing and compress it, you don't need to do that before
