The reason Alanis' vocals aren't so smooth here is BECAUSE THIS SONG IS SUPPOSED TO BE HURT AND ANGRY! She is in pain! Those who complain... "It sounds so painful and guttural!" Yeah... that's heartbreak, isn't it? And the nastiness of it all it what makes it so refreshing. Not just another easy listening "sad song."

Agreed. This is raw emotion. Few can appreciate for what it truly is. Even the studio musicians seemed to channel this here (Dave Navarro, and no, I'm not a fan of him, but he did a great job as a guest guitarist on this track.)

Leah Templez Except Taylor isn't as bad as this song. You're the one who seems to complain too much.
@ellyswiftie18649 жыл бұрын
+Leah Templez She's not complaining, she writes about her emotions and experiences. Plus she does that in an amazing way. Ed Sheeran writes about his experiences too but no one says anything bad about that. You said that because Taylor is a female singer/songwriter and if she writes about her experiences, it's complaining? No. It's just a sexist way to think. So please stop saying things like that.
@Zordboy9 жыл бұрын
+Elly Swiftie ... except that if every second song Ed Sheeran put out was him whining about somebody who'd annoyed him in the past, people *would* tell him to get over it after about the third album. I'll never understand why, when you treat the sexes with total equality, it's sexist, and I'd love to hear that explained one day. With every new Swift song, it's, "Who's she pissed off with this time?" The only thing all her bad relationships have in common is *her*, but I suppose that's everybody's fault as well.

@ribby90698 жыл бұрын
+zrocks2001 Yeah... He didn't cheat on her. "How quickly I was replaced" suggests that they broke up and then he got with somebody new. It's just a song about being angry and bitter about a breakup, but those are still powerful feelings even more so for the fact that you feel selfish for having them- (although not in this song I suppose)

It means (I really believe) that sometimes when people especially men break up with you, they act like everythings ok and they just leave. They don't give you a chance to respond or be angry. They leave you with no sense of closure because they dont want to deal with an angry emotional female. So in a sense they are denying you the right to be angry.

This song is about Joey from Full House. No, I’m not even kidding. Dave Coulier dates Alanis Morissette for a while, but then they broke up. Dave later said that this song is about him.
