I just watched this in its entirety for the first time and I have to say, I really liked this. It shockingly got darker than the Disney film and the animations for 1987 are surprisingly good considering the look of the film.

It's pretty good, isn't it? Terrifying in some places for a kid but I do enjoy it. Hardly perfect but for what it is, and compared to a lot of what the company that made it has ALSO made...it's great.

I don't ever ask myself the question as to why I love this more than anything made in my the 2000's. The effort put into making this film was phenomenal, I cannot believe the company went bust, look at how well the animation is, even compared to animations made in the 90's and early 2000's before everything became computerized - Which begs the question as to how it was possible for them to go bust, with animation like this?

I Have a special interest in this animated movie, because it was one of many planned full length features that Filmation Associates was going to do,before the corporate factions either at Group W/Westinghouse,or Lo'Real told Lou Scheimer that he had to cut the budget, meaning that he had to go do the animation overseas,,and Scheimer just wouldn't hear about that, since Filmation at the time, was the only animation house in the US,which did all their cartoons here, instead of going overseas, which i certainly couldn't blame Mr Scheimer for upholding,on creative reasons! in the two years that they worked on "PINOCHHIO AND THE EMPEROR OF NIGHT",which New World Pictures released in late 1987,my friend at Filmation, who was an accountant, kept me tuned in,about the production of this movie, while Filmation was busy, working on another season of "SHE-RA",and their newest TV series,""BRAVESTARR",which debuted in Fall 1987,which unfortunately, was their last TV series, when in early February 1989,my friend at Filmation, sadly told me,that Filmation no longer exists,,this was a heartbreaking moment for me,because nothing prepared me for this-and in early March of 89,that was the last time i ever heard from my friend at the studio! so i have fond sentiment with this movie, and the unfortunate events that followed,,but Filmation will forever be a special studio,in it's 25 year history, and it's many works, which rivaled Hanna-Barbera! a special mention to Lori Quam, along with Sharron Grantham and Pat Ryan, who were some of Filmation's personel-all very nice people!

Of the three main songs in this film, this is the only one where the lyrics are clear enough to know what is being said without having to listen again. But regardless, I'll still post them here like I did for the other two: Hello, Mister! You're a star, "The one and only" is you who you are, The moves that you make make a million hearts break, You're a star~ Yes, you are! Singing, Dancing! Such romancing! No beginner, you were born a winner! Got to know you! We're all below you! You're a star! La! La! You're the one who came along, With just that luck and just that song, The world seems to know a real star by the glow, You're a star! So you are! Singing, Dancing! Such romancing! No beginner, you were born a winner! Got to know you! We're all below you! You're a star! La! La! (scat singing) (Everybody, dance!) (Hurry, hurry!) (female singers scat singing) Singing, Dancing! Such romancing! No beginner, you were born a winner! Got to know you! We're all below you! You're a star! La! La!
