A man can vent to his wife but the other person has a valid point - allowing a man to vent while taking 0 action to help himself is asking yourself to become a rehabilitation center for broken men. He needs to WANT to seek therapy and professional help. If someone does not WANT to help themselves, prepare yourself for a long, hard, emotional & mental beat down. A wife cannot play every single role - that's why support groups, family, friends, therapy and professional help exist. You don't go to a dentist to fix a broken hip - you don't expect your wife/husband to play the roles of a professional mental health specialist or doctor. It's not fair to their own healthy state of being. This is why men in the community will not seek help now - instead they go trauma dump onto another woman and sometimes it plays out in worser ways (them getting violent taking their anger out on her, etc). We have to stop this notion that we can be EVERYTHING to a man, it's not possible. We've lost too many women violently who tried to stick by addicts and men with mental health problems who would not seek help.

I don’t have sympathy for addicts, especially the men, they use knowing full well the implications and what it does to people around them. I grew up with one(father) and had children by one. I walked away from the relationship told him to get help he’s not my problem. I find it funny how many black men use that as their excuse to cope. When women use therapy to cope. No sympathy here. Men lack foresight and control.

I just broke up with someone that was a bad alcoholic. He went to rehab, got sober for a few months and went right back to drinking… went back to rehab and went back to drinking and now he’s in rehab again only because I broke up with him… I hope he stays sober this time but either way he won’t be bringing me down anymore

This is what I don't understand about some women. The brightest red flag is staring you in the face. You see the signs, know what's going on, but yet still get involved with a problematic man. She knew these things about him, and I truly believed him when he said when he was bringing all of the money in, she had nothing to say. Now she wants to complain. The dynamics in situations like this is weird. I will say this about him. He told the truth about his addiction, acknowledgement is the first step, and he's willing to get help. I feel sorry for him, and I hope whatever trauma he's been through to lead him to having a drug addiction, I hope he will get the help he need and save himself. God bless him.

Very well said! And honestly, I've seen this with women I know personally far too often. They ignore the major red flags because they're scared to be alone or don't have the confidence to face being alone, they place all their worth into a relationship. Hopefully he decides to want help and do better for himself, so she doesn't become another rehabilitation center for a broken man.

I agree with what the judge says however there's also one thing that she failed to mention or perhaps agree with. The fiance knew what he was doing or at least had an idea regarding how he was bringing in 2k-3k (if he's telling the truth). A week. That put you at roughly 100k and above. - unless he had multiple streams of income that were legit including investments or something. let's be honest here. -I think she was being intentionally obtuse so therefore she couldn't declare that she knew what he was doing.. - His health is COMPLETELY on him. She has to decide if she is going to help and in what fashion or leave.

You can see the pain in his eyes and shame in his demeanor, thats not the life he wants. But he admitted he doesnt know any better thats what they do where hes from. I didnt like how he asked to be listened to and he got yelled at. Hes clearly stuffing down his pain and is dying to be heard. Therapy is a big part of getting and staying clean and he has to feel safe to do so. Most (if not all) addicts have that desperation in their voice and seem ready for help. Ambivalence is one of the biggest barriers they face. Many people who express the sympathy that I detect from you have been hurt because they don't understand the disease of addiction. There is definitely hope and I pray for both of them. However, IMO (as a mental health professional who works with addicts), he is talking a good game, and he believes what he's saying. It's crushed up prescription pills and cough syrup and soda like a sprite it started out as a Texas thing but I'm from Midwest and it's every where it makes them high

She knew he was an addict and still married him. I also find it hard to believe that she didn’t know what he was doing to get money. If he didn’t have a job but brought in that much money…. SHE KNEW!!!!

That's easy to say. However, she didn't know the full scope of addiction and what she was in for. Even now, she doesn't really understand the depth of his addiction. She only knows how it's affecting her now. It is a hard row to hoe being the family member of an addict.
