As someone who is physically disabled I totally understand his point. It’s the worse feeling to love someone so much but not being able to physically do for them the things that other people can so easily. It’s also difficult to live in a world that is not set up for you. There is so much talk a bout LGBTQ+ rights meanwhile disabled people are just hoping that the next building they have to walk into has a ramp

I'm disabled. I can't tell you how many times I have gone out to eat, and have encountered handicapped parking spaces that are around the corner on the side of the building! I have asked to speak to a manager about how they need to reassign their handicapped parking spaces to the front where the disabled don't have to walk around the building to get to the front door to come inside.

I haven't seen the movie, but I remember this scene from the book and how much of a gut punch it was. The beauty of the moment, painful as it is, is that on some level, you can understand both sides. You know why Will, as someone who was so active before his accident, can't see himself living this life that doesn't feel like it belongs to him, nor can he fully understand someone loving him as he is in that moment and wanting better for them. On the other side, you see how hard Louisa has worked to show Will how life can still be worth living in spite of his disabilities and the hardships that come with them. She already loves him and would have gladly spent the rest of her life taking care of him. She wants him to live, to see beyond the limitations his condition brings, and he simply can't. He won't. He made up his mind long before Louisa came on the scene. That was the saddest thing about this moment. It's the moment the audience and Louisa realize that Will never intended to keep living and that nothing, not even love, was going to change his mind. Even though she hates it and would do absolutely anything to try and change the outcome he decided, in the end, what was most important for her to do was simply be there. I don't like or agree with this decision Will made, but the mentality behind it is understandable. When my mom needed an operation a few years back, she ultimately chose to refuse treatment for two reasons. The first was that she was already so weak that she could have died on the operating table. The second reason is that, in the aftermath of the surgery she would have had to live with a colostomy bag attached to her for the rest of her life, something she adamantly never wanted. She chose not to go through with the surgery. It was her right to decide that, and in the aftermath, my dad and I had two more beautiful weeks with her before she passed away. The situation from the movie is definitely different, especially because Will was healthy aside from his disabilities, but aspects of his choice hit home after having lived through a situation where I felt the same things Louisa did. Both sides are valid. Neither feel selfish to me. Will was hurting in a way Louisa simply couldn't fix. Love wasn't enough to keep them together, but love gave her the strength to start living life to the fullest. In the other books, you see her grieve, and you see her fall in love again. You see her become a woman she's proud of, and though she will always miss Will, just as I will always miss my mom, the most important things he gave her remain. This is a love story that was always going to end in tragedy, but it was beautiful all the same. It's easy to find faults within a story, especially when it doesn't reflect anything in your own life. I remember being extremely angry that Will would give up without giving life with Louisa a chance when I read the book. Now, I understand. Don't like it, but I understand. Stories like this are difficult because they remind us of the reality we try to escape from. You want to see happily ever after, but Me Before You doesn't give you that. In that way, it's incredibly raw and poignant for me.

I married a man who cheated. I wish I had never met him. It changed my entire life. I didn't find love again until 50 years later. I would refuse marriage. I understand her... he cheated her. He denied the fact that she was happy and loved him as he was. He didn't give her a chance. Love is the devil when people let go.😢

Why did they make this movie? Knowing its very painfully romantic movie. I am just ready to live it once and ready to die forever. Its such a movie that defines love at its extreme. When you live as soul if other and two become naturally one. This movie, i can never watch again, but still, it's one movie, i would recommend everyone to watch once.

It would have been easier if he was disabled from birth or very young before he had a chance to really taste life. Then it would be a basic part of his identity, and she would have met him as the disabled man he is. But Will was a successful, energetic man, who never identified with his disability. To him it was the end of who he was and his life. He only cared to improve Lou’s life before he ended what he never accepted to be himself.

This film is monstrous. The actors play perfectly well. But what a shame that they put their talent at the service of the most sticky and perverse romanticism. Unfortunately, it is fashionable to pass off the most implacable materialism as virtuous humanism. And the saddest thing is that the majority of our contemporaries fall into the trap.

This is a toxic relationship for her. I hope young girls don't take the kind of love shown in movies seriously. Love in the real world is different and feels calm and fulfilling.
