1: thats because it is also disrespectful to the one who made it, because you are destroying too much of the process. 2: i mean you can, but no one does that. its common to just add it to the in between of the fish and rice. 3: you want to avoid the rice to becomming soggy, the rice is mostly supposed to be eaten dry, while only the fish contains soy sauce. 4: this is somewhat wrong, while ginger is for cleaning palate (and to brush soy sauce in some types of sushi) there is some exceptions to this "never pair ginger with sushi" part. 5: yes this is true hands can be used and are prefered for some types of sushi culturally.

Basic ones like dont add shoyu (soy) to rice, don't add wasabi to shoyu, don't eat sushi and shoga (ginger) together, stuff like that. 2. You can mix your soy sauce and wasabi in casual settings. Just don't do it at a sushi bar in front of the chef 3. You don't dunk it rice side down because the rice absorbs too much soy sauce. Plus the rice is seasoned already. It's the fish you want to season with the soy sauce 4. The entire point of sushi is to enjoy the taste of the fish and seasoned rice. Eating it with ginger (which is meant to cleanse your palette anyway) completely kills any subtle flavours and textures

The reason you actually eat sushi in one bite is because the chef makes the sushi too fit the person soo it should be eaten in one bite and sushi is made like an art and eating in multiple bites ruins that of course. The chef makes it too fit the person and if you don’t eat it in one bite the chef will feel that he has failed and not created a sushi perfect for that person because it was too big.

Better pro tip: If picking up sushi with chopsticks is too hard for you, ask for a bowl and dump all the sushi in it. Then proceed to mash them all together with your chopsticks. This way use can use the chopsticks to shovel the newly mashed sushi into your mouth. It's preffered you do this in front of the chef as it shows them your mastery of ancient japanese knowledge.

There’s no “right way” to eat sushi it’s literally food- Edit: I’m just clearing this up, I have no say into what is appropriate or inappropriate in other cultures, I wasn’t really commenting on the “you should use your hands to eat sushi instead of a fork” because again it’s not my place to really know what’s appropriate in that culture and also there was more opinion base “tips” such as “you shouldn’t eat ginger with your sushi” or “don’t do this with your wasabi” I wanted to comment on the opinion base “tips” because it’s a preference, your not eating it wrong like this guy claims. I should have made it clear what I’m commenting on but I’m lazy and here to say something because why not.I know my comment is pretty dumb and stating the obvious but hey it’s KZbin what do you really expect.
