So I noticed a new trend with these arcs. They’re not officially labeled arcs, but they each build up to an announcement video for an event. Said announcement is then followed up by a, multi-day countdown, livestream, where an animation loop plays for several hours, before getting switched out for a new loop. Then when time runs out, a new video gets posted. The following Saturday, an event video gets uploaded. The big difference this time is the livestream not being horror themed, and instead being structured around planning a heist. The event is also a WOTFI, instead of a movie.

I’m hyped; there hasn’t been a WOTFI that wasn’t part of an (official) arc since WOTFI 2019 and I appreciate fans being able to decide not just challenges (if that even happen this year), but the plot for an episode. I think this can satisfy genuine/honest fans (and maybe even grey area individuals) as I’ve seen recently that there’ve been more and more people leaving the community. I really like this layout, as I’m sure it will help this WOTFI differ from others in recent years/the modern era. This is such a refresher (though I do still enjoy the modern WOTFIs (aside from probably 2021’s)) that I’m sure should make for a truly fantastic time in the post-Genesis Arc era. And the animation is fluid and really good here. This was a wonderful announcement and I hope that after the event, the channel doesn’t go downhill and also gives lesser-seen/focused characters time to shine. Aside from that, I hope you have fun with making this year’s WOTFI! (Oh, and please don’t spam; I’ve already seen some annoying messages of spam and want to see less toxicity)

Okay. Credit where it's due: you guys actually DID come up with an interesting twist on this event. After three years in a row of having it be used to cap off an arc, it's nice to see something that's a lot more standalone. Sure, it's a follow-up to the most recent episode, but it's a LOT more self-contained and doesn't feel too out of place as a result. I LOVE the idea of changing up from just challenges that ultimately don't amount to anything to a choose-your-own-adventure structure that has proper progression. Gives a nice throwback to "Mario Simulator Interactive". Also... daaaaang, do SMG3 and SMG4 look snazzy. I don't watch heist flicks, but it's a neat genre to incorporate. I do have quite a number of issues with this, though. Following the redesigns last year, neither of 3 or 4 fit the bill of "fat Italians" anymore since they stopped being just Mario recolours, so I didn't think this particular series could even continue after that. Marty's presence does kind of rectify that, but that's still only on one side of the conflict. Speaking of which... WOW, did you guys take the piss on this one. The shadowy figure we saw near the end of the last episode didn't even REMOTELY resemble the outline of Marty. That, and now that we know Mario is taking orders from a literal cardboard cut-out who only has the vaguest hint of sentience, he's officially gone off his rocker, which isn't going to sit well with a lot of people. I thought that this would be tied to the TV adware saga we've had over the year, but knowing all of this, it seems very unlikely now (we've still got one last movie to wrap it up by the year's end). Also, I don't feel comfortable with the idea that there could potentially be a bad ending that permanently affects the series moving forward. While I said this was self-contained, that was with regards to what came before, not after. So much has been changed lately, and not all for the better.

Peach, Toadsworth, Toad, and Toadette are completely absent, now, for example. They were great to bounce jokes off of, and they could have done with some development. Instead, Peach is permanently a monster, and Toad is MIA (I _think_ he escaped, since he's been a throwaway gag at least once), Toadsworth hasn't been seen much, and I can't recall the last time we saw Toadette. To say nothing of Bowser's clan - when did we see THEM last? I mean, I get it, K & L are probably playing VERY fast and loose with IP's, just skirting the knife edge of Nintendo's ninja swords (as there was literally a whole arc about it), but I'd much rather have them officially dismissed to the background, not written off so poorly or just dropped with no word. Something like restoring Peach's castle, and then M & L (and the rest) making occasional appearances in between their own adventures elsewhere in the Mushroom Kingdom. That way, they can focus on the OC cast (which they seem to prefer to do) and use the MK Cast as guest roles. And I'M STILL SALTY ABOUT AXOL! A real Tasha Yar moment for K & L, but I have to give them props that his death was impactful if I'm still salty about it after all this time.

Suggestion: Don't kill any of the characters during WOFTI 2023 Ideas: (If Marty is the villain, probably is just hard to believe) Mario helped Marty because Marty is his friend and because Mario thinks that SMG3's notebook is a regular notebook that Marty wants to look at. But it contains lots of secrets, not just sussy ones, but lots of other secrets that Marty wants to use to end the world & create a new one. Mario tries to reason with Marty after finding out his intentions, but to no avail as Marty possesses Mario's body. (If the villain is someone else) Have Mario be mind-controlled/possessed by the villain and forced to fight the SMG4 gang Have Peach return and have her fight Mario once he breaks out of mind-control thanks to Luigi (Gets out of pit by: Teleportation gained after becoming a spider-crab hybrid/villain teleports her out of the pit/digs her way out of pit) Have SMG1 & 2 play roles in the WOFTI in some way

If you want see the “lore/arc WOTFIs”, I recommend watching the Waluigi arc before watching WOTFI 2018 and the KZbin Arc before WOTFI 2020. This will help you see the differences between the stand-alone and lore WOTFIs. 2023 will probably be more related, but not arc based. Before the 2023 one, I suggest watching each video this year with SMG3 in the thumbnail. You’ll see why
