While it's not a perfect film, I absolutely ADORE that it's a story where the "final girl" survives not through luck, speed, or even run-of-the-mill toughness, but rather because she turns out to be a MUCH better killer than all the villains combined. :)

I totally agree with your thoughts on this movie, but I remember when I saw it I just found it so refreshing. I loved Erin SO MUCH! It was so amazing to see someone turn the tables on the bad guys and to make smart decisions quickly with the knowledge and tools they have. Especially with how brutal she was. Nobody was going to get up again once she was done with them. None of that hit them on the head once and assume they're dead crap here.

I really hope you watch The Guest! Its made by the Director and writer of this movie and is a Perfect 80's slasher homage. Its on Netflix and I HIGHLY recommend it. Great video btw your reactions are always spot on!

Erin was such an epic badass, the only thing she could have done better was put sugar in the pot of water so that it forms a syrup that sticks to the person it's thrown in burning them more than plain water would.

Wow, talk about sychronicity: my blu ray of this came in two days ago, then I see this uploaded. Amazing. You're Next is kind of like a mumblercore Scream that plays with home invasion tropes instead of slasher tropes. The moment Sharni Vinson's character moves into action its a total thrill ride and a nice antidote to the nihilism of something like The Strangers.

Since you watched VHS and You're Next, you really should check out A Horrible Way to Die. It's an underrated gem from the same director and writer that came out the year before this one. It has has some of the same actors, such as the guys that played Crispian, Drake, the fox mask killer (I went to high school with him, btw), etc. Personally it's my favorite from their films, but unfortunately it went way under the radar.
