I think your essay was very thorough and covered all the main points, even the painful ones. I remember all the time I spent unlocking my first dragon epic set then realizing lvling it was the real torturous part. Hopefully new players can spend more time enjoying the game now rather than feeling like it's an unsurmountable task.

Loved your thoughts on this! I agree I think this was a much needed update, when starting out it was very hard as a new player to get good gear and progress I'm sure this will help people out and make the grind easier but not too easy

100% I agree with you. I was at 3/5 kraken epic gear, then maze dropped and the balance shifted a lot. I feel bad for new players who bypassed all the dungeons and went straight to maze, and also for the people who spent months getting epic yeti only to have common gear outclass it. I think this is a viable fix, and will help newer players and guilds

I am a fairly new player, meaning I "skipped" the first 3 dungeons. But I can completely appreciate what this change will to to help the game dynamic. Well said KicksGaming

...nah. The devs had countless warnings from hundreds of players telling them not to make Maze gear so OP that it overshadowed all the other 3 dungeons. Then they did exactly that. On top of that, maze was so easy, that all of their musings about how people would need Yeti or Kraken epics to do it, was bullshit. People were getting to Maze 10 in Yeti commons, it was arguably easier than Yeti. Then 3 days into the patch, virtually everyone and their grandmother's dog had gear that was better than Yeti epics which had taken several months to grind. Any comments on what kind of old gear you needed to progress became pointless, because anyone who spent 4 hours in Maze got gear that was better than Yeti Epics. Then they introduced the extremely awful GS lock system in which progression is essentially impossible because nobody played the old dungeons, and the old gear progression system meant you'd spend 15 minutes doing a dragon 3 clear with a random, for the grand reward of like 4 dragon gems or something. It was basically impossible to progress, because prior to maze, high geared players would occasionally do Dragon for easy trophies or farming Epic gems solo. But in that system, nobody did. It basically created a vertical wall that isolated all new players in dead content. Now they've attempted yet another band-aid fix by making the progression faster... but... news flash... they're just going to get boosted through DD and KK faster now than before, and Yeti.... You trying to sell Yeti as a challenging dungeon is straight up funny. Half of the players in Yeti are grinding Hero title. It's basically a coinflip on getting another low geared guy who'll leave instantly, or a guy in full Maze legendaries and Lvl 6 gems blasting the boss in 15 seconds on every level. This hasn't revived the old content, it's made it faster to skip past it. The damage was done when they went full Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls on the Maze gear... One thing is that we move twice as fast, level twice as fast, and hit twice as hard, as the Yeti set... But you'd think that making people immortal and have infinite dps (poison) would be a bit of a red flag during beta test? No? Nobody raised this concern or what? I don't get how this colossal blunder was allowed to pass. Within 3 days of Maze coming out, with me having zero connections to the testers or devs at the time, I did my first full Maze 20 solo. That's while getting gear, learning what the dungeon even was, and how the new meta would shape up, let alone the solo meta... 3 days, from being totally in the dark... to solo clearing it. At that point, progression becomes vanity. I did not manage to solo Yeti 20 in my months of playing before Maze, even though I managed to get epic Yeti and was well underway in leveling it, got to 10-14 on most items. But solo carrying Maze 20 is not just easier than Yeti 20 or even Kraken 20 was... It's so easy, almost all of the semi-weathered playerbase can do it. Honestly, poison and Lifedrain was a mistake. They should not have been added. Also, Maze should have been a LOT harder on the lower levels. Maze was meant to be the final challenge at the end of the dungeon progression. Instead, it became the easiest dungeon of them all. There's virtually no skill involved in Maze, because only level 19 is even a challenge at all, and that's solo. Duo, it's laughable. Pulling archer camps on Kraken took weeks to perfect, months for some. Running straight up to the boss at level 1 and going afk for 20 seconds until it dies, is so easy that my 5 year old son can do it. Then there's Daily Maze. The poster child of "kill your darlings" not being applied. The awful navigation system that the devs failed to implement in multiplayer, which still isn't working properly in singleplayer as of today where everyone got stuck, is only in this game because the devs does not want to bite the apple and scrap their failed work. It isn't fun. I haven't found a single person who thinks so. It also doesn't reward trophies, so you feel like it directly interferes with your socially competitive game experience. But you know what it does reward? Like 3x the rewards of a regular Maze 20, while being EVEN EASIER. A had a friend who joined this game. As soon as they got the gear to solo daily maze, they no longer had any incentive to play the actual game with other people, they just stayed in Daily Maze for about a week and a half... before quitting. Even if they had played regular maze, it's not like it would have been the cooperative experience that dungeons were before Maze. It'd just be the same no-brain boss zerg. I'm very disappointed in how Dungeon was transformed from a high replayability game mode with conservative progression on gear, and actual skill progression. Picks needed to be coordinated. Characters needed to play according to their strengths. There were pulls to do that took practice. There was so much depth to these dungeons. The gap between a good and a bad player was huge. For a mobile game, I've never seen anything even close to it. But now? Honestly, can you even remember what kinds of monsters appear on which floors in maze 1-15m? I sure can't. Because it doesn't matter. All of my characters are immortal. They heal to full hp instantly, no attacks need to be dodged. It truly doesn't even matter what kind of enemy you're attacking. It's terrible, and what's even worse, is that now even the trophy grind is reduced to just spamming Yeti. So in summary, this is what dungeon is now: 1) Join Discord 2) Get carried to Yeti in like 1 hour 3) Get carried in Yeti by Hero grinders 4) Get carried in Maze by randoms or clan mates for like 3 days. 5) Start farming daily maze for gear. 6) Spam Yeti 20 for eternity while watching TV for trophies. The game is going to die very soon unless the devs do something drastic about this. Removing the drain and poison gems would do the trick, but they wouldn't dare. The game is now populated by noobs who think they're good because they can afk on a boss until it gets 10000 poison stacks. There'd be an outrage if they unrung that bell. Idk, I think the damage is done. Once I get my hero title, I might quit.

The damage is done. There *was* feedback during testing that progression was too easy, but official reply was that maze was intended to be "more forgivable on the early floors" and the new gear supposed to "quickly replace the old gear", thus leveling the playerbase's power horizontally. In theory that would've been fine if that change wasn't so abrupt, and so readily available for everyone. Most likely, the jump in power should've been much softer. Much slower. Maybe a release of half the floors first, like how Dragon used to have 10 floors in the very beginning, and a much lower reward point, as to not draw a verticall wall as you say between old & new content, and give dev team time to assess the changes and react accordingly. The biggest mistake was definitely that one : *how steep that vertical wall was and yet how fast the entirety (at the moment of release) of the community would be able to simply jump it without any time being taken to see if that leap was fine or not. The lack of "walls" and checkpoints here and there meant there was no moment where the team could look, assess how player progress is going, and react accordingly. Everything happened too fast. It *was* pointed out that mere HOURS was enough to get rid of the old sets and that it was too short to replace months of grinding in a couple of hours. At the same time, it felt great that everyone could jump into it and get some bang for their bucks regardless of how far they'd go, so those sorta cancelled each other out. Even I didn't know when to stand when the revamped "Insane" difficulty of Daily Maze added the possibility to use the Maze Gear. Noob-friendlier way for those getting hard-rekt in Maze to work their way up looked good, as it was time gated anyway. Feedback cancelling each other out also happened with life drain and poison overall, where some found the maze dungeon initially too hard because "boss had 50mil HP" while others said "hard mode where ?". Mixed feedback that cancelled each other out. Remember also that the initial design of Maze was supposed to be what we now know as Daily Maze (but farmable). It was supposed to be a much bigger revolution than that, but the early backlash on the unfinished and underwhelming current Daily Maze (mostly the navigation system that was really slow and uneventful) when first teased, tested and released, caused a bit of a panic move and called for converting what would've been a farmable 20-floor (Daily-but-not-really-) Maze into what's now the Maze Dungeon. Add up a particular context where updates had been continously delayed because some overzealous hacker took it upon himself to screw back with some of his (former) "clients" that had done him dirty. All that useless crap called for unplanned extra security updates that delayed the release of an already eagerly awaited and (over)teased content, putting one hell of a Damocles' sword above the dev team and a pressure to iron out the kinks and roll it out. A lack of foresight for certain points, an inaccurate assesment and lack of judgement on others, yes, but also hardly foreseeable circumstances to squeeze it all together made it, in my assumption, difficult to reflect on the impact it'd have on the overall's game balance and on how everything would happen so fast the moment that patch was live. Life drain nerf needs to happen. I pushed for it and will keep doing so and I'm not the only one. It just CAN NOT stay the way it is or the core issues of the current gameplay will remain and all the following updates will be attempting to work around it to no avail. The outrage will be there and you can already see it looking at the couple suggestions bringing up that topic, they're getting massively downvoted. But it absolutely, effing needs to happen, because people, in this case particularly, odn't always know what's good for them. That's just something people will grunt but get over with, then realize it was the right call, or quit because they suck too much (in which case, maybe it just wasn't the game for them). Git gud. :/ There is no sense to just afk, sit back and facetank half the map's worth of mobs coming at you/and getting laughably destroyed. That's not what the game ever was and that's not what an action RPG should be. If you want to AFK farm things while watching TV, maybe remove the "action" out of RPG and turn on an auto-battle gacha RPG or an "idle game". It's also absolute nonsense in Daily Maze where the LITERAL ONLY DIFFICULTY comes from the fact that YOLO. The moment you give to EVERYONE access to an immense source of sustain readily available with no cap, in a content that has no other challenge than "stay alive, don't mess up and don't die", you are trivializing so much that it becomes boring. That's why people want to skip it and farm it as fast as possible for the rewards. Skip early floors and grab chests, do the later fights for gems and grab chests, done, thxbye. Make it challenging in a "fun" way (not simply raising HP) and I'm more engaged with it ! Not to mention that adding up : - Ever-increasing single target DPS (poison) - An immense, infinite and uncapped sustain that synergyze with the aforementioned increasing DPS - An only real difficulty adjustment throughout 20 floors being the boss' HP bar getting stupidly bigger and bigger and his damage higher and higher Meant you'd have no other choice than using this winning combo to triumph in Maze, thus not creating more diversity and gameplay choices as intended, but streamlining everyone into the same god-damned "roles" because your only concern is raising that DPS as quickly as possible, so everyone turns into the same silly, brainless, 10Khp unkillable tank with infinitely increasing DPS, the only difference between how fast that increase happens. Exit the "take a fastest farmer to level up one carry that aint so great at farming early" strategy like we'd do in Kraken or Yeti with a Zeus/Mech'Do in KK, or Grim/Huntalisk in Yeti. (unless there's a giant gap in power, then it's "you're the noob, farm up every floor and let me kill boss, because the community is using/abusing a mechanic that 90% of them do *not* understand the implications of. Poison was exciting to have at first, but as soon as the announcement was teased, you could already see the risks it'd imply. I called it days after the first teases of what power stones would have, that the meta would be super skewed to poison+tentacles and would make use of the way poison (& fire because the "2 players" part of it is the same) work when 2 players have that same "element" UNLESS they massively reworked the stacking system and/or the way fire works. Heck, anyone who'd play the game in the "old way" papa describes in this video, and has the slightest sense of observation and working brain cells knew it already, if they took the time and effort to look at all the pieces of the puzzle, and that was over a month ahead of any testing. But it still happened. I'll keep advocating for the next content to have certain colors of power stones simplely and purely disabled, and make that one the next "kraken dungeon" (as in, bottleneck content where players will spend weeks or months grinding the next endgame goal). Disable green ones half or more of the floors, purple ones on all of them.Why disable the stone and not the whole mechanic, you might ask ? So the hunters with the mechanic built in their kit are not just some laughable piece of crap anymore. Make OG tanks great again. Could also find other ways to balance difficulty : more mobs immune to Death Strike. Cap life drain by % of maxHP like it was done on the Life Steal perk (change called for by yours truly in the light of how oppressive sustain was in first testing of Daily Maze 😇). Give MOBS Death Strike. Or Healing Reduction. Have mobs turn you "Zombie" status so that if you heal, YOU lose hp. Or add up some elemental resistance/absorption system where hitting certain enemies with poison will heal the danged mob. I'm not quitting because the game has so much potential and I want to try and do everything to push in a more logical direction. The current state of the game is sad. Borderline pathetic.

The change Papa goes over here is to undo the damage done by a 180° turn after 90% of the active community jumped from DD/KK/Yeti straight all into Maze. By '180° turn", I mean the immense wall drawn after those event, using GS rating, that called for either getting carried or getting gatekept. Having an epic set of previous dungeon does make you able to hold your own in the next one. It's one step in what looks like a more sensible direction. It's not enough yet, and there needs to be some way, for newer players, to encourage grouping up with someone their level, and give them the ability to hold their own in those dungeons faster than we did, then farm them faster than we did, that doesn't get **COMPLETELY BLOWN OUT OF THE WATER** by getting matched up with a Maze Gear player that carries the f out of them in 5 minutes, for 10 times more rewards (and x times faster). We're at the point where "lazy noobs" will just quit on other players with a level of power close to theirs as soon as floor 1 starts, just because they'd rather try their luck until they're matched with an hypercarry. If you're one of those doing this, I half want to ask of you to insert your head in your own rectum as far as possible and never take it out, and half feel sorry/like shit because the game is designed in such a way that your awful behaviour is too rewarding and too "worthwhile" to do otherwise. Yes, basically, I'm saying "you'e an a-hole ruining the experience for new players, and yet, what you're doing is actually the most profitable course of actions so kudos to you for being a smart(a-hole)." Up to a point where I'd look at the facts, look at players complaints in discord, and realize that when someone's crying about being unable to do anything on early floors of DD/Kraken with an inexistent progression and absence of teammates, I ripped a lil' bit of my own soul but had to admit "yeah, with how the game works now, getting carried is the most worthwhile course of action..." because the workaround of getting common yeti or farming Kraken/yeti floor 1 for some starter gear simply didn't exist anymore. (Then would proceed to mentally call myself an a-hole too.) But again, looking *FORWARD*, not backwards. This is a step towards a direction that can slowly take us out of this mess. As long as the game seems to be headed more or less this way with the next upcoming changes and how the next content is designed, I'll stick around. There's no point crying over the past, as long as we all remember the mistakes made and prevent them from happening again. At least, this is a step towards a direction that can slowly take us out of this mess. @@Erytas Thanks for the detailed response. First and foremost I want to say that I think you're cutting the devs too much slack. I've worked in IT development as both a manager and a coder for about 7 years now. I see the same pattern everywhere, 80%+ of the people working on any given project, have no passion or care for how the technical stuff works, they simply work there because IT makes up a lot of jobs now. I learned that lifedrain based on damage was a toxic and overshadowing game mechanic when I was 12 years old and making custom maps in Warcraft 3. I also learned that way that permanent stunlocks from attack based stuns were toxic. If I figured that out at 12, how did their professional game designers not see this coming? I took to Facebook and Discord to shout warnings at them when I saw the life drain or poison powerstones, because oh god you don't even have to try it to see how potentially game breaking it is. They acted the way that most incompetent people do in IT: Denial. A guy who commented something along the lines of: "Isn't lifedrain OP if we can just facetank the boss?" Was told: "You can't do on later levels because the boss hits very hard." What? Was that their honest impression? It was blatantly false in even mediocre maze gear, let alone the godlike gear people are rocking now. I just don't understand how they went from dodging very basic design flaws like this, to diving face first into them. Did some game designer on the team quit? The only way to fix this is to remove lifedrain, but they will not do that.

@@Erytas Also, small sidenote... but if half of your testers absolutely destroy your content and the other half struggles, the conclusion should be that half of your testers are bad players, and you should mostly pay attention to the other better half while ensuring that the lower half can at least do a little. It's not numerical. If a sizable portion says it's too easy, it's too easy. It doesn't cancel out. Always base the endgame around the best players, and let the worse players strive towards becoming better, or getting help from better players. It's a time proven approach to multiplayer RPGs. Hell, just multiplayer games in general.

I fully agreed. That update made me really happy. I play with some friends and I got a clan where I try the most to help them, they are all newbie, like they entered my clan with 1k trophies. But, really, drop rate for dragon was really disappointing, and I can't waste ALL day long focused in one member to grow a little to make game more enjoyable for him. Because for me, that's the point, have fun.

This change is fantastic, sorta wish I started now haha. Took me months to farm near maxed out dragon epic. I wanted to play maxed dragon for the experience. Than Start in the next sets as the game didn't really have much more going for it. But than mazed dropped lol. Either way the game and devs are making great changed and in am excited to be playing a game with progress and hard working devs with all be it a smaller community, A Great one!

Additional content means the time to reach new content has to be shortened on the old content. we see it all the time with older MMO's. its still gotta be played but only a fraction of the time. Yes, some of us spent week grinding for sets and even month to progress which can be no done in hrs, but what would you think if you had to do that just starting the game now? I would quit before i began. player input is massive on a devs game devolpment. im happy with how they have implemented new systems and progression. Thumbs up from me Papakicks!

I feel sorry for old players they played months to get strong but after maze came new player who got guild played yeti first they became strong in just 1 or 2 months

I do too, but that ship has sailed. Instead I think we need to focus on the future of the game and the new player experience. That's why I like this change.

Make it impossible to new players to progress in the game without the help of a high lvl player. That can’t be good for business. The easier the game, more players get satisfied, more money it generates.

The video is still applicable with that change. If you used ads to buy gear, then you are in a unique situation where you have yeti gear but can't upgrade it. Your fastest route is probably to run Kraken and get a drop and upgrade it until you hit 600 GS. Hit me up on discord, I want to see your gear!

as new player with not even half of hunters -only 2 lev 10. must say that transition from drag to ktraken when you not getting carried its very hard, iu can get drag gear and level up mysel and still not beeing ab;le to carry full drag myself let alone do anything on kraken. without guildmates who carry alot i would be stuck in limbo

This is not the case, everyone has the chance to get a nice item or not. Now after the new update, the game has become much easier to get an item, not like before you farm 1000 times and only drop normal items. Not to mention that from 100 games 2-3 you come across good players who play to the end.

I think there should also be an upper cap. Because when a 6k or 7k or 8k player carries, i feel sorry for the boss. This also kills all the grinding fun experience. So like 2k for dragon 3k for kraken and 4k for yeti would be nice. This solution may not be perfect but it at least keep the fun. Some players got the maze gear so quickly that they forgot the hunters. Once while i was carried by a 7k player in YETI he failed at atound maybe level 15... I mean the hunters were chosen so wrongly. I also know that dungeon before maze, maze and abyss all have different mechanics. Also awakening may charge hunter from maybe C to S tier but i have no awakened but I have a few level 10s. 2* gearing up without help is almost impossible. Even DD level 1 to 3 can be really hard with 0 gear power. Also, even with 1,3k gear yeti is too hard. And even if you clear 5 levels in these dungeons gear and gem stone rewards are too low. Nowadays people dont play kraken dungeon. There is just no need. 3* Dunegon monsters and boss need variety. Instead of no healing or 50% xp, the challanges should focus on monsters variety such skills, damage etc.. 4* i would recommend new dungeons to be not 2-3 min constraint but some additional fun challanges.

@@KicksGaming1 Thanks. OFC i am new to game and still learning things or re-noticing things which I did not may much attention. The game has so much potential and so many people are HEAVILY INVESTED. I hope they improve the game and it becomes more fun. Nowadays, I noticed people in my clan with 7k gear have no fun at all (mostly because of straining and not fun MAZE dynamics). I mean in 6 months with just the introduction of maze people became not 10x but over 100x more powerful.

I think newbs will disagree as they just want to rush to the endgame stuff. I know so many people who started a few months ago with more gear score than me and half the maze runs, but if I had tried to start the game now, I wouldn't want to play it as the pointlessness of the first three dungeons makes the whole game a bore. I got lucky that I had just gotten my common and rare yeti gear up enough back when maze was first added to be able to get my foot in the door just as they made gs, but that way of playing was so much better. It was a grind, but it wasn't boring to not know if wins were guaranteed, and fun to have to work together and be sad together. Only having abyssal for that possibility now is wacky.

I rolled a new account that was free to play just for fun. When I unlocked Kraken, I didn't even have 20 hunters... I'm not saying people should be forced to stay in dragon for as long as we did. Not even close. But being able to actually do OKAY at kraken when you start kraken would be a good thing! Hunters & Gear. I'm not sure if the rush to maze is healthy for the game or not, even if that's what new players want to do. But for now, that's what they have, so all is good at the present moment.

After 7 months of grinding and still not being able to complete dragon dungeon by myself, finally getting a character to level 10 seeing how much it costs to "awaken" a character I'm in a never ending constant loop of grinding for items. 🥴

With the new drop rates, it should be possible for some players who play a lot. Gear drops 10X higher, and upgrade costs are 25%(?) of their old values. Should be pretty fast if someone plays hardcore for a week.

I started 3 days ago and i got 3 dragon epics. Carried by some powerful players. And i level those to 10. I think im going to use the same method as this but one question. If i get the full set of kraken set after dragon. Is it ok to sell dragon set for gems lol

Yep! You won't need it anymore. Just note that your strategy is slower than what everyone recommends. Epics need to be buffed before they are worth the gem cost.

I really do feel like it should be a compensation for the old players or when this was added to get a new dungeon mode with a high power cap . So they will have a head start against the new players

I value your opinion, but I can't say I agree. I hinted at it in the video, but there may be some changes to dungeon requirements in the future. I guess we'll see what happens!

Done almost 2k stages of dragon 300 of yeti and kraken and coming up on 500 for maze. Haven't gotten a single epic drop still. And for power stones the purple one I didn't get till one a fluke I got to stage 15 on daily maze and my drop was a common helm and a purple stone and I've only gotten two more since. This game seriously hates me. New players that are unlocking dungeon in my clan have already gotten 3 epic LS to drop for them. I'm getting sick of everyone getting epics so easily compared to me 😭 but I definitely do agree. The grind was seriously wayyyy too hard before now? Pfff what grind just spend some hours with a single crazy guy and your in yeti in no time. Not quite but you get the point. This type of progression seriously would've made this game more fun and enjoyable. I stopped playing so much because I was sick of just dragon dragon dragon dragon and wait. More dragon! For what? A full set of common gear..

When you get all legendary gear you will glow yellow. When you get all mythic, you will glow red.

And i actually have a small rant to add to this. Lately, ive been noticing something about running the dragon dungeons. I'm trying to build up my gear, and really the only way to do that is to keep running dragons dungeon until I'm good enough to play krakens ship. Well, what ive been noticing lately is that i get paired with players who have between 5k-9k gear score. They'll do like 1 or 2 levels with me, and then just stop putting in effort or teamwork. Fyi, I'm not just mooching off of their ability to wipe the dragon out in 30 seconds, i am farming the adds and getting exp for both of us. I just dont know what the deal is.

Sorry. I'm not sure I understand. The point I'm trying to make isn't that dungeon gear shouldn't exist. Most players consider dungeons the true game and that the other modes are fun sometimes, but definitely not what you play most often.

You cannot. You will be at 1150 gear score. Your best option is a rare yeti to get you to 1200. If you already have the full dragon set though, then you can wear it while you farm the resources to get to 1200. Since it is a strong set.

This logic is moot honestly....it is the same as saying 100 years ago our surgery methods were horrendous, cutting people open with non surgical tools and guessing what this tube or artery does....so they worked hard the next 100 years to where we are today. Now these fresh new surgeons right in 3rd year residency get to use robotic arm precision surgical tools, blades that can cut so finely that molecules could be reattached. Yet there are fossils that think this is unfair and demand they spend a few years and do it the same way they had to....just move on, the stuff is obsolete and honestly it already has a built in limiter for new players. Locking your hunter 1 per run, if youre so new that you still need to "learn" then you won't even have 20 hunters yet.

Thank you for your comment. I didn't know how to reply so I didn't. Your analogy is fine. But what happens when the power goes out and your patient is still bleeding? I personally would rather have a surgeon who trained the old methods as well as the cutting edge tech. They don't need to spend years on it, but a couple weeks of practice isn't a bad thing. Similarly a player who knows how their hunters work and how dungeons work will be far better stepping into maze than a player who got carried through it. But more importantly, I honestly think they will enjoy the game more if they take the slightly longer route. Emphasis on slightly. I don't think they need to spend a month in dragon, but spending a week there is enjoyable. Same with the other dungeons. Anyway, thanks for the comment and making me think about other opinions.
