Resellers are heroes. Buying an item from a charity shop, helping charities and employment, AND giving people all over the world the opportunity to buy an item that they may never have had the chance to buy! Heroes! 💪🏼👌🏼

Wool rugs can be washed. I lay mine on concrete pavement. Use ivory soap some use dawn. Gently hand wash with brush, lightly. Rinse cold water. Use brush to work water thru. Might take a bit to rinse clean. Dry outside in the sun but cover it to prevent fading. Yours is a prayer rug. Good buy.

I was told that the Goodwill bins “are not” necessarily large volume that’s already been in a Goodwill store. That plenty of the volume has never seen a store. That would make sense as to why they found such great deals. Also, here in Ca, pretty sure the Goodwills survive bc of pickers! Their prices are too high for the “poor”, and all of our other thrift stores have one dollar and two dollar racks. Goodwill is providing jobs.

Totally, it’s a mix of both. Stuff has been through the store and stuff that hasn’t. When the items are tagged they have usually been through at least one retail store

I think an important distinction (for the people that don't really understand what a thrift store is) is the difference between a thrift store and charity store (the US version, not the UK version). A thrift store is exactly what you described and nobody should feel bad about sourcing there. On the other hand, a charity store literally exists to directly help the less fortunate with deeply discounted items. Typically, they're run by churches or other community groups, are labeled as a charity store with their mission displayed, and the prices are super dirt cheap. For example, if you go into a store and all shoes are $1 and shirts are like $0.10-$0.25, then it's almost certainly a charity shop and we shouldn't be sourcing there.

I lived in the Tampa area for awhile and remember going to an Oriental rug place called Royal Oriental Rugs. They clean, repair, restore, and sell rugs. They will know EXACTLY what you have and may possibly offer to purchase it as well. Carpets like that require a delicate touch in cleaning. I love Asian inspired items and I own a silk like the two pictures you got. Not a home run ( was made for tourist trade) but they are getting better as they age! Someone needs to actually handle the rug to know exactly what you have. Materials, weave, dye, all make a huge difference! Happy hunting!

I have a larger rug that is similar to your brown little rug. I purchased mine from a Pakistani lady whose husband had had a rug store and he had passed away. She said they had imported their rugs from Pakistani and they are wool and silk. She was trying to get rid of his leftover inventory. Mine was originally $3500 but I ended up paying $400. That was almost 30 years ago and I still love my rug and through several moves it has held up great. Your rug is much smaller but I do feel yours should be worth at least $150 . I am not a rug connisore by any means but my parents always had oriental rugs and I have had several. You could always take it to a rug store and they may be able to tell you more about where it was made and the materials. Great find!

I go to plenty of Church Thrift Stores and Allie is correct. Most of them are raising money for their food bank or their missionary work. If they are looking to cloth the needy, they usually just give the clothes away and I would never take that to resell. I also aways pay what they are asking and round up...if I owe $7, they get $10 and so on. This has led to having a great relationship with them. They will actually text me asking if I want something and they will hold it for me. One time I had a really big hit which I didn't realize how good until I got home, and I went back to pay more but they would not take it, so I just made a donation to their cause.

The rug is a prayer rug. Prayer rugs are small and directional. They point to Mecca. IF the fringe is attached it is fake. The fringe is actually part of the rug and called the warp and weft. The fringe is bound on the long side. It is cut off the loom when completed. Look for moth holes. If real maybe $75-150 from what I see. Prayer rugs are more desirable. Probably 4 weeks to make depending on the knots per square inch. If real, most likely Persian (Iran). Looks real! There ya go!

I like the explanation at the beginning, my postal clerk who knows im a reseller got pretty judgy when told i was at a Church yardsale...."but your a reseller dont you think thats wrong?" Whats wrong about giving the church money for stuff the church is selling for money? Im certain they would rather have my $ than no $. Its not like theyre gonna give the 3 Coach purses, Vintage Tweety Bird Sweatshirt, and Pokemon game guide to the homeless..and the money i gave them will be Way more useful to whatever charity endeavors they pursue. And its certainly gonna be more useful than all that stuff gonna back to someones basement or the landfill. IMO i think as resellers were doing a service to our communities.! Great Video! Always appreciate the education.

Anyone that shops or donates at thrift stores like Goodwill is supporting the cause by purchasing items which is like making a contribution. I guess you can say you're making a contribution and in return you get some free stuff. I doubt thrift stores would even be able to sustain just selling to people who technically have low to no income anyhow. Also thrift stores are not as affordable as people think. Maybe the bins but def not the stores.
@vintagecurio676
@vintagecurio676 3 ай бұрын
Just to add to your opening comments. In my area many independent thrift stores let poor or homeless pick 2 sets of clothing for free; something goodwill doesn't do. Also, if poor and needy, I'm sure they are not looking for glasses of wine, figurines, or other non primary necessity items. Furthermore, most resellers are poor needy people that buy and resell at flea markets, or other local online no fees sites; I know teachers that resell to supplement their bad salary. So, those comments in my opinion; come out of ignorance from jealous people who think your whole income is from thrift store reselling.

resellers make a profit they can go back to the thrift to buy m ore stuff. In fact I would say most resellers are not making a living at this they are just circulating their money buy something, make money and go back and buy more stuff ... there is no banking any money like if you had a job working for someone else . Very much like gambling for many resellers very addiction even witth that little dopamine hit when you sell something

Poor are not dumb if they have limited time, and gas they are not going to gamble that gas and time on MAYBE finding a good item at the thriftin their size, and in good condition ( never mind at a good price I can buy new at marshalls or TJMAX for a lot less then what thrifts want for used items) .. or they can go to walmart and know there will be a variety of colors and sizes and other thing to buy in NEW condition with a return policy ...no brainer limited money and time I go to the department with new items oh and in current styles
