Hi, whats your thoughts on fc's and how the lamb market would be able to lift? If the supermarkets actually wanted to lower the footprint they should be sourcing unshorn..

Hi there, I see you are in the southern highlands I'm in Goulburn, what's your thoughts on the " Australian White " breed
@ourfarmlifeaus Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, Southern Tablelands*. I think they have a big potential, still not quite beating the 2nd cross lamb for production but give it a few years and they’ll get there. Will be a lot more people going into them once the price of them comes down a bit. Too hard to get shearer’s and it’s only going to get harder.

great videos. how many acres are you on and how many ewes are you running?
@ourfarmlifeaus2 жыл бұрын
Hey Peter, run about 4500 acres (bit of bush in that) and at the moment around 3500 ewes.

Don't freeze. Gopro batteries definitely do not like the cold.

Love your videos. Just wondering why the the buyer doesn’t want lambs outside of the 48-58kg weight range?
@ourfarmlifeaus Жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah, we were selling to a supermarket so as you can imagine, they want consistency in their produce for you as the consumer, so that you know what you are buying. Does that make sense?

I remember when top lambs made $40.00 ea in the yards at Wagga. Assuming carcass weight is 50% and 830 Cents then bottom weight lambs @ 48kg = $199. Top weight 58kg = $240 each. Over 300 lambs those 10 extra kilos can make a BIG difference to your take home pay. ($12K ish? difference). I think the average person probably doesn't realise that. (I hope I've worked that out correctly. no doubt commenters will let me know if not). Which Uni did you go to? I was at Rivcoll in Wagga a LOOOOONG time ago.

Thanks for the comment Keith, and the calculations look pretty good to me! It really wasn’t that long ago that lambs were making that sort of money, I remember taking loads of lambs in our little old truck to Goulburn saleyards on a Wednesday during school holidays (sometimes a day off school too😏) and watching them make less than $100, and that was a great price! As for uni I went to Wagga as well and studied Ag. Great place wagga.

@@keithpadbury9818 that’s unreal Keith, I played union for the aggies but had plenty of mates in the bush pigs. Both great clubs.

Nothing to apologise for - very interesting. Is this normal winter weather for your area? You looked pretty uncomfortable! Have you said what kind of lambs you run. Hopefully you'll show off your Kelpies a bit more, we have a special girl, but she wouldn't like that weather! Even though she was a proper farm girl she's the wimpiest Kelpie ever - hates all this wet, cold weather. Spring's round the corner now August's half over, so interesting to follow along. We just had a splendid lamb dinner, so lucky to have great farmers like you looking after us. Just wish the Politicians realized what a treasure y'all are.

Hi thanks for the comment! No the weather is not that normal, just get the odd day like that! And yes everyone seems to like the kelpies so ill show more of them! They are great animals, and more importantly great mates.

@@ourfarmlifeaus Yup they are super-mates! Keep safe - hope this cold & wet ends soon - but doesn't get too hot & dry. I hope your videos will get out to city folk so they can see what it takes to put food on their plates & how vital you all are to our very survival.
