?What’s a triggered joke?
@carucath974 жыл бұрын
@@itscutekoala215 Hard to explain, basically certain people conflate someone being offended (regardless of whether the offence is justified or not) with something to reliving a traumatic event through seeing something that triggers the memory so they find it amusing to say that anything is 'triggering'. This often comes from different experiences - like some people just find 'jokey assault' to be darkly amusing whereas others who have been sexually assaulted will find that it reminds them of that time. So, someone will say that a 'jokey assault' scene triggered them because of that which will annoy someone who found it funny and think that the first person is ruining their fun and so may say that their homework (or something else that's trivial) 'triggered' them. This is why sometimes in comment sections you'll see people say I"M SO TRIGGERED (like you see transphobes say they identify as an attack helicopter), they're making light of a real thing because they don't see it as being a real thing.

But in the context of the show I don't think it really makes sense all that much. In the original context of the musical we're supposed to be rooting against JD since he pretty much gets jealous that these two guys are flirting with his girl and he thinks the only solution is murder. With this song, it justifies JD and makes him more like a hero. Not only that but Veronica feels bad for murdering Kurt and Ram because she believed they could still turn out good. With this song in the musical, Veronica's guilt seems more forced than with Blue because in Blue there too drunk and dumb to be good people, in this song they're completely sober and fully aware of their actions, they simply don't care.
@Soldier-Down3 жыл бұрын
@@ML0694 But JD was a psychopath kind of bad, Ram and Kurt are the Jock kind of bad which while that archetype certainly paints them as villains, it certainly makes them more deserving of like a beat down, but most certainly not death.

@haileybrennan6195 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I think blue is meant to be a bit ambiguous. The way JD reacts could seem justified from Veronica's point of view. She probably did see it as an attempted assault drunk or not. But all JD saw was something making a pass at her. In our love is god. Initially, Veronica thinks he's doing this for her until reality hits. Shes still kinda on JDs side after their deaths because she thinks he was defending her. The audience though is probably noticing the redflags at this point though. If Kurt and Ram are shown as completely irredeemable, then the build-up to JD trying to blow up the school dosn’t hit the same. Yes, it creates more of a suprise, but Veronica's has to realize JD is bad for her slowly for it to make sense with their characters. It also makes the point of 'people don't deserve to die' that Veronica comes to make more sense because Kurt and Ram were two drunk stupid teenage boys, not axe murderers. If you have them do this is completely negates that conclusion because that intentional act is beyond redeemable for anyone.
@wriggleby4 жыл бұрын
This makes more sense contextually than blue, they aren't just silly drunk kids they're genuinely a threat. They still don't deserve to die obviously, but there's more of a reason for JD to want to kill them.
@albamg77613 жыл бұрын
that's exactly WHY it doesn't make sense. We're supposed to be rooting against JD. Veronica is supposed to have a reason to be horrified at his killings of redeemable and relatively harmless people. This song would make the musical fall apart contextually

They were presented as drunk idiots who weren’t in the right, but they definitely didn’t have malicious intent in their drunk state. I don’t think Veronica in the movie was meant to be seen as a hero, she always let horrible things happen and slowly realizes how wrong she was when shit started hitting the fan. She makes slight protests like with the Martha situation but she lets it happen, she leaves Heather at the college party where she could and mostly likely would be taken advantage of, she defends JD pulling out a gun in school, she kills one of the two jocks instead of JD doing both which leads to Martha trying to kill herself. It was only then when she saw that she fucked up. It’s a lesson of stop being horrible or someone may hurt themselves and you can never take it back.

Fantastic animatic. 👌🏼 I love this song, I really do. Blue made Kurt and Ram seem like dumb kids, but this really shows how malicious their intent was. Obviously they didn't deserve to be killed, but you can really see why J.D flipped. Just the implication is enough, he didn't need to know the details. That line gets me every time; 'Hey, you wanted to be popular.' Like, this is your punishment for trying to get a better life for yourself. The price you have to pay for avoiding bullying. It shows their intelligence. They know that she wouldn't be on the accepted list if not for the Heathers and therefore use it against her. Wonderfully done and the animatic just makes it hit even harder. ✨

Although I understand why they changed it to show the gravity of the scene I can't help but feel that the artistry of the song doesn't measure up or fit stylistically with the others in the play. I also think that the heathers leaving instead of staying and locking her out of the car was a poor choice. When they stayed it felt much more cruel (fitting for the Heathers) but when they leave they have a reason for the cruelty.
