If the theory that the neighbor is his mother is true, then it could be a metaphor for the story of Oedipus. He killed his father and married his mother after he was separated at birth and someone told him that he would fulfill the prophecy. I mean who knows but it's fun to theorize about. Joe killed his father as we saw in the flashbacks to his childhood and then he was sent to foster care. We don't know if he ever saw his mother again after that. The real Will also said something to Joe's about marrying your mother during their conversation.

Joe doesn't love her by the end. His fantasy girl crashed when she revealed her true self. He pretends to love her to be able to be set free from the cage, just like Beck pretended to love him so he would set her free. He was even going to kill Love with the handcuffs if she hand't dropped the pregnancy bomb. So by the end. He doesn't love her anymore, he keeps describing being with her as him being in a cage. I think that is a key point in the development of further seasons.

It is possible though that the body he buried was someone else. Joe could've burned the body (somehow someway) so badly that the police couldn't ID it, but since it was next to Dr. Nicky's place, they assumed it was Beck. If you really think about it. We never saw Joe kill Beck, it was just implied due to him grabbing her and cutting to black, then cut to him burying 'a' body. First, this is unusual because we always see Joe directly killing someone on screen and then dealing with the body. With Beck, we're missing Joe killing Beck directly on screen but we have him dealing with the body.

Alana Walker and it all comes back to his mom- his trauma makes him seek a pure form of love that he craved from his mom. the love he thought he found in beck and Love. he desperately tried to protect beck and Love to overcompensate for his inability to protect his mother from his father in his childhood. and as a child, his mom made him believe that killing was okay if it need to be done to protect those you love- therefore imbedding that moral into joes head forever. he realized beck wasn’t perfect enough for him when she reacted badly to discovering that streak in joe. he realized Love wasn’t perfect enough because they WERE perfect together. he found out she wasn’t pure but was a reflection of himself. he wants something that’s impossible because what he’s really searching for is the love that can only be found in his mother

Here is my theory. Joe gives off the impression that he's a quick thinker and although his actions are sporadic, he's calm and collected when he has to "fix" what he did. In season 1, Joe does a search registry on all of Becks acquaintances, by being tapped into her phone he's able to get a detailed look into her private life, family, friends, anything and anyone she's connected too, he knows everything about them. Which is how he's able to show up at places where she's going to be. She dies, he moves on and you can see he still has her laptop. Now he's fixated on Love, he does his research, knows all the details of her friends and family ECT. Beck is still haunting him, he's still fixated on Beck. In season 1, Beck mentions her mother, yet there is no information given about it, almost like everyone forgot that Beck had a mother but she wasn't referenced in any detail at all, you just see her dad, step mom and other siblings. No biological mom. You see in the final episode that he's moving into a new place with Love, who is very visibly pregnant, meaning several months had passed and they were just now moving into a new home. Joe is a planner, the woman next door is blonde, looks semi aged, late 30s most likely, she's also reading books. What if during the months prior to their move, Joe tracked down Becks mother and that is who is he is trying to get too.

Well that's the thing though. We never really got a true answer. Joe never said anything about her mother being dead and non of the flashbacks ever suggested her death even happened. As for Joe going into foster care, his mother could've just given him up as she realized she couldn't take care of him anymore for whatever reason rather than him going to foster care because his mother is dead.

I believe that Joe has never truly loved a woman as he's never been truly, unconditionally loved by another in his lifetime. Most ppl would recover from a childhood like his but he is also clinically insane. I wonder if the show will eventually come to a close with him behind bars? Will all of his past crimes come to light? Will he be murdered? Will he just keep going until he's too old to hold captives and kill? This show is wonderful, I love it. I binged season 2 in a weekend lol. I can't wait for more and I'm gonna read the books in the meantime. It would be cool if the writer also released Beck's book for a deeper dive into her perspective and the story in general. The only thing that makes me uncomfortable when it comes to this series is seeing women gush over the character in a romantic sense. Joe is the kind of guy we should avoid at all costs; keeping in mind that we can't fix anyone but ourselves.
