Pro tip on finding art, from an artist: Go hit up your local arts organizations, community centers, artist co-ops, and university galleries when you have them. You can get original works by local artists and/or students, typically for really affordable prices.

Yes!! I’m a film photographer and print my commissioned work on museum-grade paper. If clients or people looking at my site are on a budget and can’t invest in the purchase, I’m always happy to use different paper which can sometimes cut the cost 25 to 40%. Great idea to ask your favorite artists! :)

💯 and also check out printmaking spaces; a lot of people think printmaking is just litho repros of original art BUT printmaking has original art pieces made for the specific medium (screenprinting, etching, lino or wood cuts, lithographs, letterpress, etc.) in limited edition runs in a variety of sizes and often very affordable prices, especially for the ‘emerging’ collector

The wood vanity at 7:32 could be a number of things. People in the comments are suggesting tiger maple or flame birch, which definitely look possible. I'd also suggest quarter-sawn oak. The logs are cut at a diagonal, which gives the wood distinct light, sometimes shimmery ripples that flow all over the grain. It's a more subtle grain than tiger maple, but especially on a darker-stained oak with the right lighting, the effect can be quite pronounced.

I think that wood on the cute desk was Birdseye maple. It’s my favorite wood also. I have a Birdseye maple writing desk that I use as a vanity in my bedroom. My mom bought it at a flea market and it’s the first piece of furniture that she ever bought. My dad replaced the top for me with a solid piece of Birdseye maple because it had really bad peeling veneer. It’s my favorite thing.

hi. you are darling. i've been an interior designer for more than 20 years and have been helping the friends of my 20 year old daughter, decorate their first apartments on a budget. A fun suggestion for oversized art is to buy a long roll blind, unroll it on the floor, and use it as a canvas. We did one with tracings of people overlapping and some sporadic blobs of color - and it was awesome. Because the blinds are weighted at top/bottom, they can be hung with ease without expensive framing. xo

eBay and Etsy are great places to buy art. And I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen sellers with art (and vintage home decor too) cross posted on eBay and chairish and the chairish listing is like double the price of their eBay listing. I’ve always figured that chairish takes a huge cut and that’s why sellers price so crazy high on the platform. Ive rarely spent more than $300 for art on eBay/Etsy and have had some great finds!

I’ve been collecting art for many years, especially from smaller artists, and Etsy used to be a really great place for that, but these days it’s sadly hard to find original stuff on there, so now I find IG the best place online to find smaller artists. Where I live there are small gallery type shops that will sell original pieces, and prints from small local artists, sometimes you can also find local art for sale at cafes. Usually local artists will have a open studio day now and then where they sell their pieces, and the art school has an end of year art show where they display and, sell students art for reasonable prices. If you’re looking for prints art galleries will often sell them. It’s also worth looking at what sort of things are on where you live, last year I went to this exhibition where small local artists would turn a room in their home into a temporary gallery, I ended up getting a cool original piece for a very reasonable price. Sometimes you can also find nice vintage art in vintage / antique/ charity / secondhand shops both online, and offline.

14:53 seeing lots of good tips for finding art, another one I will throw in is online auctions, I have been able to get some beautiful small abstract watercolours from the 70s by local artists for absurdly cheap, like paid $15 for one that was actually a postcard, so not only do I have this beautiful piece of art, the history is right on it (it was a woman artist that was writing another local artist saying how much she loved one of her recent gallery showings). Anyways AUCTIONS you will get some amazing art, and if you’re lucky you’ll get it way under value, I saw a sketch by a local art legend and it only sold for like $200, while his paintings sold for tens of thousands.

My mom used to have a Lazy Boy recliner that was nice-looking. My issue is that those types of chairs are often so wide, and from the photo it doesn't look like that person has a lot of space. But my mom's was not oversized and it was upholstered with leather--the real thing. It cost a lot though! Lazy Boy CAN look good.
@denisejones18634 ай бұрын
Yes, I invested in a burgundy leather recliner for my husband, yet he doesn't sit in the room it's in very often due to vaulted ceilings, which he can't hear in. Yet, I have had it for 17 years now and just keep it dusted and leather polish on it. They last forever if taken care of.
