I prefer the sexton single malt more than this one. I also prefer the Bushmills Black Bush blended whiskey over this one. The Black Bush is also my go to whiskey.

@@dennis85573 sexton and black bush are both great value for money, with a lovely hit of sherry. That said, I do appreciate the simplicity of this one, and that it's just an uncomplicated, easy drinker

Sounds interesting not sure how to take this one. My take on a higher ABV would be I can always add my own water or ice and that the flavor is usually more concentrated with less water. The only thing that scares me about this is the reference to gin. I'm going to have to buy it and try it great review my friend.

Might be worth trying before buying. And yeah, higher proof is always better in my book, gives you more options for how to enjoy it!

not a big Bushmills lower end fan. I think they start getting really good at their Bushmills 16

The biggest crime with that bushmills 16 is that it comes in at 40%, still a great dram though. And yeah, the bushmills white label is, to me, one of the worst bottom shelf options

Watching this review while enjoying my first glass of the 10-year. It is very strong in green apple and honey/caramel both in the nose and on the tongue. This is rivaling Green Spot for a nice and fruity whisky. -Slainte

I need to try this again. It is affordable and I do remember the floral and fruit notes, but overall I did not like it enough to purchase again. I even prefer Black Bush. However, your excitement makes me think I must have missed something! Thanks for sharing!

It's definitely an easy sipper, and I was more excited by how approachable it was as I'm always happy to see bottles which anyone can love and which can easily be popped open and passed around. I'd be with you in thinking that black Bush has a bit more complexity with the heavy sherry influence, so the... 'simpleness' of this one might leave something to be desired for a more experienced person like yourself.

That's a little of what I mean for this being a "guard whiskey" I think I like it a bit more than you, but I definitely prefer other releases but this is one I'd reach for when I'm not looking for something special

I had a snort of Bushmills 10 at a liquor store that has a tasting bar & liked it enough to warrant picking up a bottle. It was smooth.

40% abv is simply watered down. Smooth generally means bland. Their new Private Reserve 10 year with 4 different cask finishes available is anything but bland. It is 46% and not chill filtered with loads of flavor, finish and good complexity. Whatever the 40% version tastes like, it is simply less than what it could and should.

It's always been a disappointment that so many of the 'top shelf' Bushmills have been at 40%. While this is a nice daily drinker, I'm happy to see more... Real whiskey coming from them
