solid video. would be useful also to consider/show additional batteries

Thanks! Good feedback. I will put a video together on 1 battery vs 2+ batteries for comparison

Phenomenal content, Zach! Earned my subscription, for sure! QQ- Friend is getting a system, but has a 55% offset- Would u say him getting two powerwalls increase that offset or is he still actually getting 45% of his energy from the grid? His sales guy told him batteries technically increases your offset- What's your take?

Thank you! Good question - what market is this in? It depends how he’s using the term “offset”. In the traditional solar world, “offset” is a percentage measuring your total energy produced compared to your total energy generated. And sometimes I will hear sales guys say that batteries “generate” energy, but they don’t. Batteries only store energy. Batteries will however increase your “self-consumption” percentage. Self consumption & offset are different. In my experience with a battery, you’d want to actually oversize your solar system, especially with 2 batteries, to make sure they get enough energy each day to charge. You gotta feed them! Hope this helps 😀

@zachsolar He's in NJ! Im purchasing my first home in a week or so, but it's a horrible site for solar. I believe that in the state of NJ, you're not allowed to go over 100% offset. I'm not quite getting the "increase self consumption" part, so maybe I need a visual. lol Guess that serves for great content in the near future. There's no one explaining it clearly and concisely for us out here. Wait- So in the 55/45 scenario- batteries help increase "55", but "45" will never change? I probably made it even more complicated 😅 Nvmnd lol

@@GreaterYouConsulting Hopefully this can clarify - Self-consumption % = the amount of energy that you generate that was consumed by your home directly. Higher the % the better. This is a measurement of your grid independence. - Offset %: The amount of energy your solar panels generate annually compared to your annual energy consumption. Ex) System generates 5,000 kWh/yr, and you consume 10,000 kWh/yr so your offset is 50%. So batteries will help you consume more of your solar generation and make you more grid independent since they store energy for later, but they will not increase the amount of energy you generate per year (offset). Check out this video I made from around the 6 minute mark and it might help visually a bit (kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2SXhGmFebqNntksi=A2JiQFOQsSiORseL)

On my install. They use another meter.

Yeah, a lot of utilities will install a meter to measure the solar generation. So you will have two meters if that’s the case.

I have an Enphase AC-coupled PV system (31 IQ8A Micro-Inverters) can I marry them up to a PW3? My installer says "Not currently possible". So he's spec'ing two Powerwall 2s. I received $12K in SREC credits. Will skimming off export power and using it later in the day) affect my SREC obligations?

Unless there's something I'm missing on your project, that wouldn't be true. We recently did a PW3 add-on installation for a project that had 26 IQ8A. While the PW3 is natively a DC-coupled solution, it had an AC-coupling firmware released early this spring. This allows it to be retrofit to installs like yours. Google "Powerwall 3 AC coupled" to see more information to show your installer. As far as the SRECs, I'm not familiar with them enough to give you advice there.

Yes you can add one but it needs a 3500 gateway to hook up to existing systems, that complicated things so some companies won’t mess with it because it’s not as profitable

Tesla vs Victron. Tesla customer service is ATROCIOUS. Fine if it works the first time but you have problems your SOL for months. This from reputable publications and Rediit and other online forums. I love Tesla vehicles and bought a Model X. Just REALLY REALLY hesitant to go with them on solar and battery packs.

This is why I'd recommend considering one of Tesla's certified installers. That way you get the benefits of Tesla's product & ecosystem offering, but with the upside of local service & experience. Thanks for watching!

@@ZachSolar Installers saving 20% but installation cost from Tesla still $5k. When will that savings be passed onto customers?
@ZachSolar
@ZachSolar 20 күн бұрын
@@Hypertrev11 That’s a good point. From what I can tell Tesla’s pricing hasn’t really seen a reduction, and I can’t speak for Tesla and what they charge for their installation. But Tesla certified installers are several thousand less expensive than that based on what I have seen over the last few months.
