This song always moves me to tears. Mongezi Feza was one of the greatest composers and trumpet players Mzanzi has ever known. His solo on another of his own compositions - "Sonia", from the album "Rock Bottom" by Robert Wyatt, is the most marvelous trumpet solo I´ve ever heard. Your solo on this song (not to mention the arrangement) is also LIIIIIIIT!

Thank you so much for your amazing comment! I LOVE this song! It's one of those songs I almost always end a gig with. I'm performing at Hanks this coming Tuesday (23rd March 2021) with a group of amazing musicians, where we're only playing South African music and this is surely on the books! Haha! So blessed to be surrounded by this music on a regular basis.

That’s a completely different album by a different band. Can you not tell the difference between the names “In the townships” and “Rock bottom”? Pukwana solos on his own album, Fezi on Wyatt’s album.

For your education Alan. Before taking the presumption of “correcting” someone, make sure you are not actually the ignorant one yourself. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5PCfIKcmd5qnrc

I don't know the original arrangement of the song, although I must say this arrangement is very beautiful 🥺I don't know what your heart yearns for but may God's time and will for you come through for you.

Great to hear another take on this wonderful tune ..... and thank you for the background info too. I first came to this tune through Louis Moholo’s version, then discovered Ezra Ngcukana and co’s version, which I love. I am teaching myself the tune on the piano, through listening to the many versions I have found on KZbin .... I keep returning to it in my head :- ) Best wishes to you and yours.

One of my favorite songs. There's a great version on the album "Spirits Rejoice" by the Louis Moholo-Moholo Octet

"You Think You Know Me But You'll Never Know Me" is what it's called. I played this with Louis one day at a gig. Such a cool guy!
