Preordered this the moment it went live. This is the first emulator/not emulator I’ve ever purchased, so I’m a newby. Happened across an article on this about two weeks ago researching upscalers, and thought that since I own an old ps1 with original hardware, I might want to invest in something fresh. Got the ps1 games on disc; but I do dabble a little in iso files for my soft modded ps2 fat, so I guess I’ll want to research ripping files from those ps1 games too. Any tips would be greatly appreciate. Side note: I preordered the cd/dvd doc for this too, in case I’m not smart enough to rip the roms. lol

Man I want to understand this question. Is the snac the original plug for controllers or is it something else? I'm sorry I'm relatively new to the fpga consoles.

SNAC is a way of connecting old school controllers so they are connecting directly to the FPGA. This means they will behave exactly like they originally did. If they are connecting via USB then there is some software inbetween and also USB functions differently to old school controllers. Basically it adds some lag although to be honest I can't say I notice any. But still with this device if it wasn't using a direct connection with those PS1 ports I wouldn't see the point in them I'd rather just have usb. The ARM bit I'm talking about processors these fpga systems are basically two computers one using an ARM processor like a normal computer that one is handling the file management, operating system etc and one that is FPGA the computer than turn itself into other computers.

Because Polymega is emulation only, games tend to had lags so controls and gameplay aren't accurate to native consoles. FPGA at least act like a native console so lags are reduced.

I messed up and bought a regular edition not knowing could have just ordered a founders edition lol. I was under the impression that the founders edition was for previous customers ONLY. Oh well I’ve emailed them to see if it can be swapped to a founders edition. It’s not a biggie if it can’t, but worth a try.

@Getting one in the founders edition packaging would be nice to be fair and getting it in Q3 rather than Q4, but I’ve already got a MiSTer MulitSystem so no big rush. @ They took over 24hrs to come back to me. By that time all the FE systems had sold out :(. I don’t think who could and couldn’t buy the FE systems was clearly communicated. Though I have a system preordered and at a good price so I’m happy enough. I just wish it had been a FE.

Probably true, however, the Mister would be connected to the HD TV in the living room and the superstation to the CRT in my office. I think it would look beautiful between PS1 SNES and DC in light color or between PS2 and N64 in dark color. I cant decide which color I prefer. I guess I'll flip a coin tomorrow

Eh depends, my MiSTer Pi will be going into a candy cab via a JAMMA adapter. This one will live hooked to a CRT PVM.

I'm guessing to rip a cdrom to .iso file, in the background, it'll do something similar to this Linux command: "dd if=/dev/cdrom of=desired-filename.iso bs=1M" Or maybe they plan on using a different rip tool that will produce a chd file. I'm hoping the later. I haven't gotten the later figured out yet... but I don't currently have any cd game media to rip.

Im am the lay man, for sure. The original playstation had a bunch of specific chips in it, i know you know. all those chips aren't made anymore. So imagine a computer chip that can change itself into any other chip, (within certain limitations). Thats what's inside of this device. FPGA chips. Or " field programmable gate array" . An fpga chip can transform itself to physically emulate the original chip. To understand this better watch a video on transistors, and watch a video on FPGA chips. Very hard to understand but very interesting. Transistors are essentially still magic to me regardless of how incredibly simple they are. So this console doesn't have to software emulate the playstation. In effect, it IS a playstation. But if it wants to, it can be other things. As far as whether it's a single fpga chip emulating the entire chipset of the playstation, or several fpga chips each emulating one chip, i am uncertain. Naturally many youtubers can explain this better, more accurately , and in simpler terms. But I think this should serve as an acceptable starting point. Now go watch those vids and find out if I got anything wrong. Have fun!

sort of : My MiSTer Pi came preconfigured. I still had to run update then Update all and from there load the games I wanted but almost all the hard work of applying MiSTer Fusion to the Micro SD was already done.

@@gammaphonic Incorrect, Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat has a black screen after mission 2 and you can't proceed forward Dave Mirra and Skate and Destroy have lock ups. There are plenty of documented issues like this. Please research before blindly assuming everything FPGA related is perfect and finished.

I say this precisely because I *don’t* assume everything FPGA is perfect. Compatibility of the PS1 core is extremely high. As high as any other non-original hardware solution. And in many cases, higher than original hardware on account of not running on a 30 year old machine with thousands of hours use.

@gammaphonic Not higher compatibility than an original PS1/2/3 or PSP/Vita or Mednafen for that matter. There is an up to date spread sheet which has over 150 games with bugs . I'm not faulting the core developer but rather I don't think a commercial product should be based on it as some kind of alternative to Analogue products. They at least ensure 100% compatibility at launch or a few months down the line. No such guarantee can be made here. It doesn't even have the ability to support Link Cable games.

I think the main purpose of this is to pull in people who have so far only been casual retro fans who do not know about ripping disc images or how to set up a MiSTer, or even know what a MiSTer is, as hopefully the PS1 styling and all-in-one convenience will grab the attention of the mainstream media where newbies who are just reaching the age of getting nostalgic for the 32bit era are going to hear about it. Everyone is a winner as the prices are all great value so even for an established MiSTer user who just happens to want another MiSTer this is worth it

Meh, not hyped for it. A forked core just for a cd drive gimmick is really goofy. We need to move forward and stop trying to build clone consoles that work with the old cd's and cartridges. It's all just 1's and 0's. I wish it could have been more slimmed down too, it has too much IO. We need someone to be more daring and release something even more mainstream appealing that is just hdmi, usb ports, integrated wifi, and headphone jack via DAC. No analog video, no toslink, no zaparoo, no cd drive, no SNAC, etc... Be really brave and give us the MiSTer Slim

since i dont have any mister devices yet this seems like the perfect entry point for me. just scared the thing will sell out instantly lol. its great that it supports the original ps1 accessories (still got some ps1/2 arcade sticks) but couldnt really tell if it supports the AV cables, im guessing no, but i also couldnt determine if it supports RGB SCART...
