This is a reprise of the extended version of Don't You Tell Me that we first saw on the 2018 ZEPP Tokyo live DVD (preferred by Gary, BTW🙂). They rehearse these extra interludes beforehand and it shows with the smooth transition back into the song. "We are not a jam band." -- Kanami Tono --

😱 I’m adding this brief comment with the OMG emoji! After all your reactions I go back and check out your BM playlist to see your progress down the pigeonhole. Why the 😱? Because of all the statement pieces of music Band Maid has made, you haven’t heard “From Now On” yet. Whenever you decide to do it, please make sure you’re wearing your very finest headphones 🎧 ❤

I think Kanami is too much of a perfectionist to improv that. She would practice that to perfection.

the original song doesn't have such an extended solo - they did it for us to enjoy and for them to play)))

Greetings from your veteran Spanish subscriber. Great analysis, as always. And you've hit the key...it has a Pink Floyd feel, the duel can be perfectly defined as "progressive", it's a conversation, it's tremendously conceptual. And these girls do it again. They have made a progressive, rocking and atmospheric song (thanks Akane). Something like this seemed inconceivable in those times. Japan, the ladies of Japan, have resurrected and elevated rock to a new level.

Kanami the lead guitarist channeling one of her biggest influences Carlos Santana. That solo is so "Santana" it's nothing but beautiful.
@rolandkarlsson7072Ай бұрын
Yes! This is so Pink Floyd. If I did not see them and heard the solo part I could nearly think it was Pink Floyd, except I would wonder - what the &/&%&%¤ has happened with their bassist. When did he learn this and who turned up his volume?

I think it was planned but somewhat improvised! They're so good, they know what each musician is going to do!

Love how Saiki is shedding her shyness, strutting out like the queen she is! Saiki is so in charge of that crowd! The back and forth between MISA and Kanami are part of what makes the live shows special, extras not in the studio recordings!

This solo segment was added for the first time back in 2018 at Zepp Tokyo. It hadn’t been repeated until Lollapalooza (where they debuted the DICE/Hate? medley and solo trading eights/fours) They are definitely not improvising. Playing nearly note for note from 2018.

The solo-battle is not on the studio version. The solo-battles are almost same for most times, but small changes noticeable at times.

But in the Studio (Coast) version, which was super flirtatious and almost sensual.

the guitar and bassist conversation let me think about Electric Dreams - PC vs. Madeline's Cello
@bandmaidfanATLАй бұрын
It is kinda improv and kinda not. They have actually been doing this bass/guitar 'conversation" live since about 2017, and it is the same length and measures, but the actual riffs change up a bit depending on tour. However, the one spot right before they come together, Kanami always makes up the riff and MISA has to copy it. I encourage you to go find the live of this from 2018 and you can appreciate the similarities, the differences and the evolution.

Not improvised but expanded for this show. And totally agree that Mincho is using a Floydian feel on the solo section. I absolutely love it and hope she goes there more often in the future. You can emote a lot with sustained, expertly bent notes a la Gilmour.

This official live video of "Don't You Tell ME" shows why a live Band-Maid concert always has an extra little gift for the attending audience. All their concerts are like that. That's why people who watch their videos and listen to their albums feel they must go to a live concert. I did (twice). THEN, you come away from your first one vowing to attend every one you can go to.

It's curious how many Japanese rock and metal bands, like Band-Maid are all-female groups. This band's live shows are colourful hardcore music that contrasts with their baby-doll maid outfits. Great fun without the depth of symphonic-metal.

Next Band-Maid bass & guitar battle = Hate? live.
@mikeholmes5308Ай бұрын
Not only is it not improvised, if you listen closely, there's a synth backing track that's mostly just a pad... but contains occasional stabs into the ether that add a lot of atmosphere to the whole exchange. They've been playing this call and response section on this song live for years, but it has evolved considerably over time. They are never satisfied with their music, and constantly improve it over time.

B-M never ever improvise. They are perfectionists and often use backing tracks, so improvisation is a big no no!
@DAVID-io9njАй бұрын
Better to say they rarely improvise. Their preferred MO is to score out their music. I think of them as a classical music quintet!
