First if all it's br no mo so people use what's looking cool more than anything. Second shotgun throw need some specific melee like knife sword and machete. Third for jump shoot if ur accurate it deals 100 dmg so if u calculate it right alongside with mouvements u need 3 shots with katana/sword to kill someone. I believe ur speaking about third point about the actual fight for dmg but i tried to write everything useful on why people use sword...
