"You will find companionship in greener grounds" by the artist Temitayo Ogunbiyi in De Singel

Temitayo Ogunbiyi's artwork You will find companionship in greener grounds (2024), which will be permanently integrated on the DE SINGEL site within the On Sculpture trail, was festively inaugurated with a conversation with the artist and a communal meal.
The asphalt forecourt was softened and made way for a new green zone. On it is a large 30-meter “line” in stainless steel, representing the walking route between Antwerp and Lagos, where the artist lives. It is a route that connects countless communities. The installation is an ode to the different communities that have settled in Antwerp from all over the world, each bringing their own cooking culture. To highlight this cross-cultural connection, the artist designed a garden of edible plant species, where native Flemish crops grow together with edible species popular in Lagos and elsewhere. Smaller structures in stainless steel are play structures for children, an audience the artist considers important in her practice.
For the inauguration, the artist collaborated with De Kompaan, a neighborhood kitchen in Borgerhout, which has started cooking in dialogue with her and her herbs. They served soup and bread to visitors.
