The odds are low of an immigration scholar, even if he gathered info in the field, would interview the subjects of one specific case. Roy is betting on that so he can hold up this grisly case and make all of Nowrasteh analysis of the system seem so bloodless & "bone chilling" that it looks irrelevant. Nowrasteh has only a few seconds to make an answer that has to 1) not be an cringing flinch of "I didn't mean to insult you, angry man," 2) entice information that might connect to insight he has on tap, and 3) test if Roy is putting on the act of an angry man or if he's concerned enough about the facts to have a discussion about *facts*. Nowrasteh's counter-ask for the simple name of the case fits all three criteria: 1) you can see for yourself, 2) the names are probably in Roy's briefing papers and memos, but Nowrasteh will only get them if 3) Roy is serious about the facts of this problem and not just virtue signaling. The answer speaks for itself. When Roy gets a nuanced answer rather than a counter-question, he can do the Greta Thunberg act.

It's already a boost for Forbes and KZbin's own engagement metrics and ad revenue. Here's the give-away, IMO: CR: "Have you talked to that little girl or that father?" AN: "What was the name of this terrorism case?" CR repeats himself, gives no names or citations. The odds are low of an immigration scholar, even if he gathered info in the field, would interview the subjects of one specific case. Roy is betting on that so he can hold up this grisly case and make all of Nowrasteh analysis of the system seem so bloodless & "bone chilling" that it looks irrelevant. Nowrasteh has only a few seconds to make an answer that has to 1) not be an cringing flinch of "I didn't mean to insult you, angry man," 2) entice information that might connect to insight he has on tap, and 3) test if Roy is putting on the act of an angry man or if he's concerned enough about the facts to have a discussion about *facts*. Nowrasteh's counter-ask for the simple name of the case fits all three criteria: 1) you can see for yourself, 2) the names are probably in Roy's briefing papers and memos, but Nowrasteh will only get them if 3) Roy is serious about the facts of this problem and not just virtue signaling. The answer speaks for itself. When Roy gets a nuanced answer rather than a counter-question, he can do the Greta Thunberg act.
