Even when the demersal ban is open, there are plenty of other accessible options to make the most of your day on the water. In this video, the boys started off chasing sharks in the Cockburn Sound, nailing a good sized bronze whaler shark. As soon as the wind dropped it was time for the next task - targeting big inshore samson fish on live tailor and herring. As it often goes with this style of fishing, you lose more fish than you land, and the first 4 hookups resulted in heartbreaking bust offs on GT gear. The call was made that the only way to stop these monster fish in such shallow water was to use the shark gear (Shimano Tiagra 50W), lock up the drag and tow the fish out with the boat. Finally, some success with a solid 14kg fish followed by a 25kg truck making their way onto the deck. To cap off the day, the boys found some reasonable snapper on the chew in 15m near Rottnest Island.
