I used to take my 3 children collecting fossils at Kettleness and Port Mulgrave over 15 years ago and we were also very lucky on several occasions to find very large cliff falls that produced as many nodules as you are finding at the moment. My daughter was only 4 or 5 when we first went to Kettleness and she used to climb on my back and and put her arms round my neck like a monkey while I went up and down the rope on the last section. I had to help all 3 of them to get up and down, and we would spend all day collecting fossils and bones. Sometimes we had rucksacks full of them and I had to make several trips up and back down. Port Mulgrave wasn't as bad when we first went, but later the steps were washed away and had been rebuilt, in fact every time we visited the paths had changed everywhere along that coast. We used to get them up at 5 in the morning and travel from Belper in Derbyshire to get there. Most of the good nodules I took home and used an air scribe to pop them off and prep them. I have collected fossils since a young boy and now nearly 60, but unfortunately I am now disabled and can't access these places any more, although I do have an electric 4x4 powerchair, but it is far too rocky even if I could get down somewhere like Runswick Bay, getting around the corner to Kettleness is far too rocky for me. It's such a shame because I enjoy collecting on the beaches, and although my children are all adults now, they would still go and collect and spend hours there if I wasn't disabled.

The more I watch your videos, the more I think to myself that you could be a Steve Pemberton character. How about, Dave Punter, Fossil Hunter. Joking apart, love your videos. A bit far for you , maybe, but I have folks down in Somerset. (Still a 3 hour drive for me !) Whenever I visit I always go to Kilve beach and there's always some real cracking (no pun intended) fossil ammonites to be found, but sadly usually too big and heavy to get off of the beach. I was down there early November and came across a near perfect specimen around 18 inches or more across. Couldn't even lift it, let alone get it off the beach ! Plenty of nodules down there too. Just a shame I never had my tools as it was an impromptu visit. Spent summer holidays as a kid back in the 70's and 80's and spent most of those days on Doniford beach at Watchet. Found some really huge keel sections over by the Haven Holiday park, the actual full ammonites would have to have been 3 feet across. You can get your hand flat between the dips.

I wonder if they being wet makes it easier to spot the details you look for, or maybe a recent storm shuffled the rocks around.
