I was a kid in Hong Kong during the 80s. “Foreigners” are everywhere. A good amount of my classmates with families from Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Korea, and UK. Most bosses in businesses and public offices are mostly non-Asian at that time. Hongkongers deal with them everyday. Your grandparents would have worried more about your mom moving overseas than marrying a foreigner. But with the handover, a lot of families do not know what will happen to Hong Kong. So a good amount of them decide to move to other countries. And let HongKongers take care of Hong Kong on its own. With a huge population moved out of Hong Kong during the 90s, then the increase of Chinese moving to HK. With less daily interaction with non-Chinese, the concept of marrying a foreigner changed. Just easily misunderstood these days. In reality, it’s just two people fallin’ in love. And you are the result of their love. I love your dad’s dad joke. I’m gonna put that in my notes so I can use it when my daughter gets older. 😂

@love n sweet2008 It really is a case by case scenario to me. Many people mixed people can be white passing if they don't look ambiguous or Asian enough. Just look at me. I'm half white and half Hawaiian/Japanese mix. People don't really know that I'm mixed until I tell them. Then they usually kind of see it with how "Asian" my eyes are. Sorry for the late reply.
