Listen, if you are going to give Dabo a hard time, please don’t misstate or misrepresent what he has said. Dabo has never said he hates the portal and he has never said he would never use it. His position has been that if any of his assistants tell him they think they need to hit the portal to shore up their position group, he is all in. And Clemson (Dabo) has made offers to portal players (mainly O line men) and they chose to go elsewhere. So it isn’t for lack of trying. And as he explained, many of the ones he wanted were clearly already going elsewhere even before they were officially in the portal. Can you say tampering? So don’t impugn your credibility by exaggerating and misstating what Dabo has done and said regarding the portal. His lack of success using it clearly indicates that he is not going to tamper to try and switch players from other teams and laundering them via the portal and he is not going to get into a bidding war to acquire a player. THAT he has made clear. But he never said he hates the portal nor said he won’t use the portal. He has left it open as an option when the need arose. Thus far, the coaches haven’t seen a need until this year and a little last year by Matt Luke for the O line.

@ Texas looked better in their second game against Georgia. In the first game they got destroyed in the first quarter of the game. Though the scores were different both Clemson and Georgia played a good and bad half against Georgia. Clemson kept it close in the 1st half then got killed in the second. Texas got killed in the first half and kept it closer in the second. And we don’t know what Clemson would have been able to do if they got to rematch Georgia like Texas did.

You can even show them actual math of available scholarships, and they still can't get it. You can even show them that zero Clemson players entered the 2nd date portal and the scholarships were all awarded, and they still can't comprehend it. They just can't wrap their head around that players weren't leaving Clemson. Because their team's players are leaving in droves.

​@timkinley1779 i understand everything that Dabo has said and I understand his stance on it but at this point your team has gotten worse every year since 2019 sure you can say they made the playoffs this year but they did it because they won a conference by a field goal and are the lowest rated amongst any team in and if you were to take the top 12 instead of including conference winners they wouldn't be in and then you factor in they are now 4th in recruiting in their own conference behind FSU Miami and Georgia Tech and they are also behind Instate rival South Carolina and that's just high school recruiting that's not factoring in transfers point is unless Dabo and the Clemson fanbase is okay with just being a good but not great program something has to change whether it be going into the transfer portal or doing some serious changes inside the program cause so far 5 straight seasons and the team has either declined or stayed the same

For the record Matt, Dabo has never said he’s against the use of the portal. He definitely has never said the he will never use the portal. He has always said that if he didn’t have any good players then he would be the number one portal recruiter. Now’s the time and he is using it, simple as that.

He's said multiple times before that if there was a gap on the team that he would use the portal. He's never been against the portal but he also doesn't have very many players transferring out. The reason for Clemson "struggling" the past few seasons is really because of poor coaching hires if you really look at it. Hired too many former players at one time and none of them deserved it.

I've commented on this topic before. Trust me, Dabo would prefer to not use the portal. But 1 thing changed. They didn't recruit at a normal Clemson level. I believe their class was ranked in the 30's. So now, Dabo has no choice but use the portal. He will use it to fill holes in the roster. But he'll never use it to build a team like some coaches.

Offered multiple players from the portal the past two years. Also had Hunter Johnson and Paul Tyson from the portal that were back ups on the team. The higher quality players that have been offered chose to take their talents elsewhere. So, he's missed on every potential starting player he has offered which is maybe 6-8. Just because he's hosting someone on a visit does not mean he will gain the committment. Been down this road before, it's not new.

The portal is not he big problem at Clemson regarding the decline in talent. It's the reluctance to negotiate large deals with recruits that have never played a snap at Clemson. In a nutshell, they have not done it and this years recruiting class was his worst in 14 years. He's hinting that the school may change how they are handling NIL money with incoming recruits. Time will tell.
