The Volca Kick is an extremely versatile, analog synth that costs less than $200. If you do not yet have one, you should! BACKGROUND SOUNDS COURTESY OF: Korg Volca Kick (custom patch to MS2000 audio IN)

You can make cool noise music with almost everything. Like a patchblock and a distortion pedal. Or an old mixer with some cables. Or a 4000 dollar modular system. Or a piezo and e beer can. Or a delay pedal and another delay pedal ...

If you liked the Volca Kick's ability to create a grain synth you'd like the Volca Sample even better. The Volca Sample has a hidden feature which allows you to increase its BPM range up to 600. Since it's a sample sequencer you can literally place inside any sample texture you wish to work with. This sample can be edited in many ways, most notably the sample start and end point can be changed and automated. There is also a sample looping feature which allows you to effectively create a BPM far higher than 600 while looping is enabled for a sound. You can also have 9 samples running simultaneously with individual modulating parameters which allows for endless texture creation (not to mention you can cycle in new samples while others continue to play). There is a specialized sample #10 slot which overrides sample slot #9 (and vise-versa) which allows you to create a ducking effect if you wish. And this is all before you start introducing MIDI control which can bring things to a whole different level. I've tried most of the Volca models and would say that the Volca Sample is best suited to what you're doing. It's the most versatile instrument a noise musician can purchase for the money and hardly anyone talks about it for this genre.

TBH, I am more excited about it NOT being controllable, other than taking chunks of audio output and assembling said noises via a sampler. Just imagine making a track using the Korg volca sample to sequence these tones... That would create so many insane possibilities. People forget that what are regarded as "classic" synths were often spawned by the synths getting used beyond the scope of their intent. The 303 was designed to provide basic bass sequences for lonely guitarists who had no bass players near.... Thankfully, some knob tweaking fruit loop began really screwing around with the controls. The rest, is now glorious acid squealing history. This, people is an important discovery...

It’s like it emulates some FM settings and ring modulation… but just an approximation of those forms of synthesis

without a doubt; this is what Korg intended when they put that MS-20 resonator in there.

With the right settings you can get a very nice sub-bass sound that's good for rap, house, anything you want lots of deep bass for really. The sequencer is easy to program and has pattern chaining, so you can use it pretty easily for entire songs. You can do a lot of other stuff with it too, but that's what I like it for. Deep Bass.

I wonder what would happen if you put the sound through the MS-20's pitch tracker.
@baxoutthebox56826 жыл бұрын
That would be a very interesting experiment.. A lot of these tones are heavy on harmonic content and since the MS-20 is monophonic it would probably get confused and waiver between multiple tones..Though, I cannot say for sure. Would def be fun to play with!
