My dad actually did that when he was a kid, was a red belly black snake and he was on the bus, stated how the girls would scream to the back, when asked why, dad said with a cheeky smile, "aw thought the snake could use a ride"

Coming from the UK, where the humble Adder is our only venomous snake, it's sobering to hear "Oh only about number 20 [of the most venomous snakes] in the world, so pretty light in terms of our Australian snakes". Gotta love Aussies!
@Kat-mu8wq
@Kat-mu8wq 3 жыл бұрын
The chances of people seeing an adder in the UK is also pretty slim. I've lived here 28 years and never seen one. Didn't even know we had any wild snakes until I couple years ago. 🤣

@@Kat-mu8wq Very true, I was lucky to grow up within reasonable travelling distance of Bradgate Park in Leicestershire, which has lots of undisturbed bracken, great habitat for hunting Adders. If you get the chance, I highly recommend it!

I literally read about not just one but 3 people getting bitten by adders in the UK on an FB group the other day, it was a forager's group tho', so prone to discussions from people who frequently like roaming around in overgrown wild places more likely to come across a snake that wasn't expecting to be disturbed.. from the sounds of it the pain and side effects are pretty nasty. When you hear about the alternative kind of nature lovers in the UK obsessed with saying how natural it is to walk around in nature with inadequate clothing, it's time like these that I wonder "are you sure mate?" As for me I prefer the fully suited, hooded up, covered in citronella and wearing thick fabric trousers and boots look, when I'm out walking in the wild.. I don't even know if that's enough protection from an adder tho' from what I've seen you can still get bitten thru fabric and on the back of yr legs when yr not looking sneaky b@$t@rd$.. Tim's snake handling skills and antivenom program certainly are to be much commended and admired, well done for teaching little Bill these skills, get them young and he'll grow up to be a great little man. ✌👏🐍

One of my most treasured memories of my bucket list trip to Australia is seeing the fruit bats clinging to the trees at the Royal Botanical Gardens behind the Opera House in Sydney. At first glance I thought they were pendulous fruits or enormous seed pods. Then I watched one shudder and drop feces. I adore the flying wildlife of Australia! From cockatoos to kookaburras to flying foxes, I adore them all!

I lived in two houses with bats. And I’ve also rescued a bat from cats. And before anyone says ‘you’re not supposed to handle them’, I was worried about leaving it in the fold of a Venetian blind as there were two Siamese cats in the house and it wasn’t very far up. Little furry mice with wings. Very cute.

So cute, loved seeing the little Bill following in his dad's footsteps.. so cool to see the bat rescue as well. Would be great to see the follow up release when they go to the wild. I literally had to deal with 4 pipistrelle bats in the UK over the years trying to make a home in my house. One summer I literally had 2 came in together thru the window to my spare room, came and ate all the flies trying to hide out in the corners of the room, they made great temporary flycatching pets, I literally ended up herding the big fat flies out of the corners before they munched them and went on their way. I had a couple then scoped out my sitting room, they really wanted to move in, so that ended up staying up until the early hours of the morning trying to catch them lol, it really is something when they're active and on the move.. ✌
