I'm especially excited for Doris and Tilly to get pregnant. Doris is a great goat and I can't wait to see Tilly be a mom for the first time. I feel bad for Luna, but this will mean another two years of milk from her probably. Maybe her next kid will want to milk from both teats and it will balance her out at least. Still, every time I see her have to jump up on the milking station I wish she'd just dry up and go into retirement, the poor girl. Oh well, Luna was definitely very in love with Floki so I guess it's terribly romantic they got to have their half-day affair. One thing to consider is that they're going to have no goats to milk for a while, since all the goats are pregnant (or in Mable's case, possibly sterile) except Willow of course. It's always a good idea to let does dry up late in the pregnancy so they can save their energy for the kids, and then the kids will be taking all or most of the milk for a while after the births. I suppose if Mable does end up being unproductive, and they give her up to be a pet for some other family, they might decide to keep another one of the doelings. They'll have 7 to choose from (I don't imagine they'll keep Luna's kid since it'll be a mixed breed), minus any bucklings they get. Could be interesting with all those kids running around and playing who they end up choosing. Willow will get up to 4 sisters to choose from, potentially, out of Penny. They might decide on Doris' one kid if it's a doeling, the way they kept Willow after she came out by herself. A single kid's probably going to be pretty big and healthy. Then there's Tilly's two, which if they're like their mom might be kinda small.

I still remember all the times Mable came back from staying over with Floki for a month at a time, time and again trying and failing to get pregnant, and how Luna would go absolutely crazy rubbing against Mable afterwards and smelling Floki on her when she returned to the herd. This has been a love affair carried out over a long distance for a long time, and finally they stole their moment together.

I do worry about Luna. Every time I see her trying to get up on the milking stand, I've been waiting for her to retire. Now she'll probably be in milk another two years, poor girl. Maybe at least her new kid will use both teats and balance her udder out so she's not so one-sided. Hopefully it's just the one kid, and the birth goes well. At least when it happens, all the other kids should be already born and they can really focus just on her. I can't imagine the marathon week of births they're going to have earlier in the month though. 7 babies in just a few days!

Yup, 7 babies expected in just 3 days in January. That's going to really be something. They might need to work out some new temporary fencing arrangements to keep the dams with their kids and make sure nobody's fighting or bullying other kids when they're real young. They'll need at least four quarantine zones until the kids are being weaned. Once all the hard work is done, though, it's going to be fun seeing all those kids playing with each other. I'm really looking forward to seeing 8 kids running around in the yard together.

They have already said multiple times they were phasing out Luna in favor of Nigerians, so they probably won't keep it. I love Luna and all the goats, but they have to be practical!

I'd say there's virtually no chance of them keeping Luna's kid. Even if they don't keep Mable, they're not going to want a Nubian/Nigerian cross. If Mable *doesn't* get pregnant, I think odds are good they'll keep either Doris' one kid if it's a doeling, or one of Willow's sisters if they aren't all bucklings out of Penny. I suspect they won't keep Tilly's kids, as Tilly is so small and they probably don't want any more goats that small (harder to milk, potentially). It's Tilly's first pregnancy so they might not know what to expect from her long-term, so it would be a real gamble to keep any of her kids this round. It might also be interesting if they bring in some fresh blood from some other herd, rather than keeping any of these kids. I suspect the multiple simultaneous freshenings is going to throw off their schedule quite a bit, and a new goat of the right age might help them ensure they have a steady supply of milk in the future. As it is, I'm pretty sure they're going to end up with a couple months of no milk at all this winter as they let the pregnant goats rest a while, and then until they start weaning the kids.
