This is why I use sleeved extensions instead of custom cables. The additional length is a bit of a pain to manage, but at least I'm not wasting money on a faulty PSU or time on ordering a new set for a new PSU, changing the PSU doesn't have to change the aesthetic. Not an issue for anyone who gets this stuff for free, but anyone who doesn't, has to be a bit more pragmatic about this. Case in point, my sleeved extensions are on their second PSU right now.

Hi Kyle, So regarding your issue: Last year a guy came to me with a desktop unit to performe some maintenance to it. Cleaning the dust (Corsair cappelix cooler) repasting the CPU (i9-10900k) looking in the OS to optimize it, etc. I jumped in the BIOS to see his temperatures for the CPU and noticed that the BIOS version was a bit old, meaning 3 versions old. So i jumped on the ASUS website, downloaded his new BIOS and updated it trough the EZ Update BIOS utility and then the PC rebooted into the BIOS to configure it. The board i am talking about was a ASUS Strix Z590-F Gaming Wifi. It was all good with the OS, the CPU temp, he has the new BIOS and everything was great. I called the guy to come and take it back home. When he arrived, i tried to turn on the PC and surprise surprise, the PC did not turn on. I was shocked why it wasn't working. Apparently the new BIOS versions change something in the delivery RAIL on the board, meaning it changes voltage on the CPU and MOTHERBOARD connector, why? I have no ideea. I swapped his power supply with one that i had and knew that it was working and the PC booted without issues. I was like, damn, how the F* did the power supply die? Cause i just used the god damn PC. I tested his power supply with another computer and it works perfectly. He had a CORSAIR RMx 750 and i exchanged it with a Seasonic Focus GX 750W and everything is working with no issues. So the problem is from the motherboard, i know that you bricked the board and have sent it to ASROCK to fix it. I do not know if the fix they did was actualy the issue that you are having, but i thinkg they did something to the board and the fix was not 100% correct. I do not know why the BIOS has this issues with the compatibility with a power supply connected to the board and what does wrong to brick the board and not work with the same power supply but on another computer, the power supply will work flawlessly. I am glad to see that you had fun with the problems though :)) ... Waiting for this kind of videos from you from the future! Good job and keep up the good work.

@Casual Scum are you somehow pretending to be clueless about the thousands of people who are basically "working poor" here in the US? It would take me about three years just to come up with the five grand to begin with, let alone $5000 I would be COMFORTABLE blowing on a single, frivolous purchase. And that still leaves me better off than many, many people.
@doublevendetta3 жыл бұрын
@Casual Scum my apologies. The way that you asked the "Third World country" bit of your question on its own screamed "privileged, insulated American" because we have a lot of those who ask the same question in a very condescending tone when they see someone who struggles financially here. The Reagan era boostrap mentality is unfortunately VERY alive here.

I actually had a similar issue, about a year ago. Went through the series of diags and swaps to see what was going on. Turned out, it was a short in the case's Power/Reset causing the issue. Unfortunately, that short did end up burning out a motherboard, so that ultimately had to be replaced. But, I had an old case I was able to fugly up to make a Frankenrig. Still runs today, and just as great as the day I built it.

@Bitwit Apologies for the nitpick, but if the cables only fit to one specific PSU that means that it's not a "cable extension" but rather a full "replacement cable" with extended length. And the reason for my nitpick is that I have grown a bit disillusioned by the number of questions regarding which (proper) extension cables will fit to which power supplies. When the simple answer is that EVERY (proper) extension will fit every PSU, due to the equally simple fact that all that a (proper) EXTENSION does is take the standardised ATX connectors and extend them... Best regards.

I'm a super amateur at pc building and one thing I've learned in my time doing this is that power supplies can make a pc do some really weird shit if they aren't working correctly and they're very often overlooked when troubleshooting.

Sometimes gpu drivers can get really buggy and conflict with another because their uninstallation process isn't very good and can linger after being "uninstalled". theres software thats easy to use out there that can scrape out all old gpu drivers 100% and that might help. i know this because i've had to use them in the past to swap from nvidia to amd and it has helped solve issues

Oh man, that power supply issue reminds me of the issue I ran into with Enlight power supplies coupled with Tyan motherboards in the late 90s / early 2000s where the system wouldn't cold boot randomly and require you to hit the reset button to get it to post.

I think I've got you beat here. Mine wasn't working because I forgot that my power supply has to be mounted upside down in my case. I was switching it off every time I plugged it in. Realized it after disassembling it multiple times.

Ah was a different issue for you. My PC started to shut down and power on repeadetly. Infinite boot loop. But the sound he made was that "holding down the power button to force shut him off" sound. Problem was: I custom sleeved my cables a while ago. Using a 380T all cables are always too long. Now the 24pin mobo cable wasn't connecting properly to the psu. That caused all of this. But until I found out... Oh I tell ya.

In my case earlier with one of the Thermaltake cases was the front panel cable for the case. It was causing the same issue as yours but when I unplugged the front panel cable ( probably a USB 3 cable) from Motherboard it all worked well.
