'The Rise of Bangtan - Chapter 1: We Are Bulletproof' - how everything began! I hadn't seen any of the footage used in this before and enjoyed seeing all the footage of them pre-debut. I think 'TheRiseofBangtanOfficial' did a tremendous job with this and am looking forward to seeing how Chapter 2 continues. I hope you enjoy my commentary/thoughts on this documentary.

I think the reason that he was hidden was more of a surprise marketing strategy to drum up more buzz after debut. I refuse to think that they had so little thrust in tae that they think he could still be swayed to abandon the group. And at this point they would definitely have contracts already under bighit since the group has already been formed.

The context here is that big hit didn’t have the influence to promote their artists like the other companies, so bts had to work twice as hard to stand out from other groups (It will be explained in the next chapter). They started the logs, bantang bombs and dance practices videos on youtube to document their journey and to promote themselves. They wouldn’t be the bts they are now if they followed what the other groups were doing at that time. They gained international fans mainly thanks to their choreographies since they were so difficult. About reacting to their discography in order, I think it’s very important because you will literally watch them grow, as artists and as people, since the majority of the lyrics come straight from them. Maybe you could do a listening party for every album? Of course, at your own pace. There is so much content and we understand that it can be overwhelming. So take your time. We will keep watching, no matter what you choose to do. 🥰💜

Hi, I am a Korean. As I have already seen and experienced Korean pop cultures for a long time, maybe I could say something for you. In the beginning of the documentary, it's introduced Seo Taeji who made a huge sensation and change a lot in Korean pop industry. That time I was a high school student. I loved him so much. haha Since then, the Korean music industry has developed tremendously and many good singers and music have poured out. Some say that my generation who experienced that time enjoyed the most cultural benefits. But from some point on, young singers started coming out like factory-products, some of them were successful, but their career didn't last long. I also got tired of listening the young singers and stopped listening to them any more. But, BTS is different for me. haha...actually I was introduced the BTS from my American friend here in the US. She said they are different and the lyrics are so good. So, I started to listen and watch their music video and now I really enjoy not only their music but also their way to see the life, thinking, art...even their each unique and cute characters. cf. the guy on the documentary said that within 5 years, k-pop idol star will become a worldstar( don't remember exact wording). He was also a popular member of idol singing group named by Super Junior.

Fun fact: Seo Taiji and Boys has a collaboration with BTS, which gave birth to a single called Come Back Home, which is probably the only single BTS has released (with no album attached to it). It's a great song, and it shows how much BTS has evolved to be recognised by the original boy band ever in South Korea.

8:49 that's a member of Super Junior. A legend really a legend 2nd generation kpop group. The 1st generation was the seotajiboys in the beginning. I knew KPop really since 2009. And i knew really someday there would be a group that would dominate globally. 2008-2009 was the time kpop really blow up in asia since then it never stop to be known globally. There's a hundreds of groups and there's a lot of groups that are sooo sooo much popular too. I ALWAYS say this that BTS was the very first group that i truly like and LOVE ALL the members. I like their attitude and mindset the most. They are not arrogant and their innocence were real, and most of all bts are the first group I bother to read all the lyrics, lyrics is soo important to me than the melody. This tackled alot of things I didn't see in other documentaries. Ughhh i really love this. Especially the American Hustle Life part, alot of armys doesn't like that show or off about it bcz some say its cringey and others don't bother to watch it anymore, and for me it was their best show sooo thank you so much for this series that made other army see not the cringey-nest of the show but the lessons and learning about it. After a hell of a day I finally got to see today's video. Even though it's 1am, it was necessary. Hannah, no matter how long you've been an ARMY, being proud of them starts from the moment you start smiling at the screen, and I think that was in video 1. This is a very well done documentary, and I think your level of admiration will increase by 1000% (Word of a statistic professional) . About watching the videos chronologically ... I think that more than watching them in order, the important thing is that you don't forget to watch the first ones eventually, they are a gem. Btw, Seo Taiji recognizes BTS as his successors and symbolically passed on the banner of the leaders of industry:) BTS and Seo Taiji have performed together as well. As for kpop industry, bts alone account for ~ 50% of all sales and streams, so I'd say they've long outgrown that platform 😄 personally, I tried to find some kpop artists that would resonate with me, but couldn't, bts set the bar too high with their artistry and their sincerity. However, through BTS i discovered a lot of great Korean music artists from hiphop, folk and indie genres. The auntie who feeds tiny bangtan in the beginning still celebrates all their birthdays and some of the Bighit staff still visit her for lunch, the food is great, according to many armys:) The choreographer Son Sungdeuk is still at bighit, been there from the start!

Hey you! There are deleted scenes for every chapter that I think you should watch too. Anyway, those logs were all pre-debut. Jimin had the shortest training time (1 year) compared to other members and he wasn't sure if he's gonna debut. Then the company had a meeting with the members to discuss if they should keep Jimin or not and Taehyung was the one who convinced them to keep Jimin because Jimin and Tae are really close and are best friends (also because they're the same age so they go to school together, etc). Taehyung wasn't revealed until they debut so he was like a secret member/weapon of some sort. I'd say YES to listening to their music and MV on chronological order so you can see how their music and style evolved. If you're going to watch No More Dream MV (their debut song), you should definitely also watch their live performance of the song in 2016 at Epilogue Japan Edition. And let me tell you.........you're not ready for it. Or maybe bring an oxygen tank? LMAO. Jimin and especially HOBI. That's the spoiler 🤭 Cause GIRRRRLLLLL...................Hobi wasn't messing around, he's determined to kill ARMY during that performance 😭😭🤣🤣🤣

The trainee programme is the same as what Johnny Jimusho does with JPop groups like SMAP, Arashi, Kanjani8 etc. That guy is Si-Won of SuJu !!!! He is one of the main vocalists and visuals of Super Junior 2nd generation KPop group by SM Entertainment I think. In his family Jin was the baby, so he turned from the youngest to the oldest when he joined Big HIt. And we have no pre-debut vlogs of poor V as he was the secret member (Bang PD was afraid in the beginning that other agencies would lure him away and then almost forgot aobut him). When they did vlogs all together he was sitting on the floor by the trash can or under the desk.

I think the reason that he was hidden was more of a surprise marketing strategy to drum up more buzz after debut. I refuse to think that they had so little trust in tae that they think he could still be swayed to abandon the group. And at this point they would definitely have contracts already under bighit since the group has already been formed.

22:07 I mentioned this is my comment on your reaction video to Hobi's habits, but Hoseok himself has admitted that he is a lot more calm than people think. As much as he loves his stage name 'J-Hope,' at times he feels pressure to live up to that name and visibly become "Hope." He is a natural performer and entertainer who wants to entertain and make us happy, but at the same time he is much more deep, mature and calm than people give him credit for. In all honesty, he is an incredibly multifaceted and layered person, and that's part of why he fascinates me so much. He's very organised, meticulous, driven and always focused on his work. Even in that particular clip you were watching you can see evidence of that, as despite how advanced his dancing already was at that point, he still wanted to work harder to refine his craft. His passionate work ethic and drive truly inspires me! Also, Hoseok's voice is naturally quite deep. Usually he's talking, his jeolla accent and dialect comes through (which is probably why some people don't realise this), but as you can see there, his voice is naturally deep 😊 As others have mentioned, I would also really recommend watching the behind the scene clips as they're just as good as the episode! 💜

YES to all of the above! I had already noticed that his more calm/serious side was shining through in certain moments like during dance practice or in conversation with the other members (there was one instance where he had a talk with RM on Bon Voyage in Season 2 in Hawai'i in that little Korean restaurant where I really noticed it) and like you, I love this duality. And yes, we are a fan of deep speaking voices! 😅😊

@@YouandMe14 Oh yes! That's one of my favourite moments from Bon Voyage Season 2. It was so lovely to see them spend bonding time together like that 🥰 Namjoon actually considers Hoseok to be the "true" leader of BTS and has even said so in interviews, however that conversation in BV Season 2 also demonstrates just how much Namjoon admires Hoseok and appreciates his presence in the group. You can see Hoseok's leadership very clearly during dance practices, but as Jimin mentioned in this particular Rise of Bangtan episode, Hoseok is like the "mother" of the group. If you take the time to really observe him in series such as Bon Voyage and In The Soop, you'll notice just how 'motherly' he really is. In Bon Voyage, he's always the person researching and organising what they need, giving instructions, suggesting to the group what they should do next, arranging the places they're going to meet up etc. During In The Soop, he was always the one who would wake the other members up, would take the initiative and start getting dinner ready/ask the group what they should have, and would run errands and help the members in any way he could. He really plays such a huge role internally within the group and does so much to unite the members and make sure they all feel comfortable and cared for. To reference Namjoon's exact words during that Bon Voyage conversation, he "picks up on and takes care of the things that he sometimes forgets to do despite being the leader." Honestly, I just love the mutual respect and admiration they have for one another, and how Hoseok feels comfortable going to Namjoon whenever he's having a slump. It helps that they're both the same age and don't have to worry so much about formalities. They have such a close friendship and it's so lovely 🥺

The main reason of BTS success was the creative control and being real in front of everyone and the stories they want to tell. Wich is very important for the longevity of the career. Of course you can have big sets and killing dance moves but people will ultimately remember you for your music. And audience crave for relatable music which is not only catchy but also meaningful. I won't be surprised if in the coming years kpop era will be refer as pre BTS and Post ᗷTS 💜.

Korea’s trainee process is unique solely to Korea. Many other countries emolument it in a way, but are not as...effective(??) as Korea’s. Japan kind of has one but they don’t TRAIN their trainees the way Korea does. (Japanese idols were documented on the 3rd season of produce 101 talking abt how strictly Korea trains their idols) Korea’s trainee process is ruthless and they don’t apologize for it bc they create some of the best musicians/artists/idols in the world. It’s rigorous (and has received its backlash for it) but it’s undoubtedly effective. 1000s of kids join trainee programs (WHICH IS NOT FREE AND YOU HAVE TO PAY THE COMPANY BACK). Still, training is only half of the battle, and many idols have spoken about this, because once you debut now you’re in another fight for your life to get recognized out of the 100s of groups that debut every year. It’s very difficult for idols to make money (especially in the first 3 years) if they do not become ridiculously popular.

I love this documentary, it's so well done. When I've got into Bangtan in 2017 there was first week when I just watched everything that showed on yt :D I was on the Bangtan world for whole week, I don't remember doing anything else back than. I left my job, because of the mobbing, so I was totally free back then. Then I've found blog with links to their music, mvs, programs, interviews and bangtan bombs in chronological order and I watched it like that :) I think it took me like 2 months to get through everyting. You have even more content to get through now :D Please continue watching this documentary series, I think it's the best summary of boys journey and shows what makes them diffrent from other kpop groups.

In a recent program (it came out like 2 weeks ago) the members were reminiscing on their trainee days and Jimin said he only slept 2.5 hours every day (stopped practicing + went to bed at 4AM and woke up for school at 6AM) By the time Jimin became a trainee, BTS had 6 members and BH was looking for a final member. Jimin struggled because he had to master a completely new dance style and learn how to sing all within a few months (he was the last 1 to join BH and received the shortest trainee period). He said he wasn’t tired during that time, that he had endless energy. I think he was very dedicated and pushed himself beyond what should really be possible to make it into BTS.
