Scream was such a breath of fresh air when it came out. The 80s slashers were all long in the tooth at this point with overly serious sequels. The genre was in a serious rut. Scream felt very 90s at the time with its self referential style and not taking itself too seriously. It somehow toed the line between making fun of slasher movies for comedy and also being a fantastic slasher on in its own right. Loomis is a name in all three, Drew Barrymore (a star) is killed early just like Janet Leigh (a star) in Psycho and Halloween is credited with creating the rules of the slasher film. As far as the Pamela Voorhees question was concerned, it wouldn't have mattered anyway. If you recall Billy and Stu's dialogue toward the end: "If you get it wrong, you die. If you get it right, you die." If Drew Barrymore's character said Pam, they would have still killed her and her boyfriend. This goes for the 'which door am I at question". Each of them was at a door. That's right. They were both there. How else could they string her body up so fast? The killers were involved in basically each killing to a degree or at least communicated to each other before/after. Also want to give a shout out to the voice himself, Roger Jackson. That first scene, while memorable due to Drew, also relied heavily on the natural and convincing mood/inflection of his voice. One of the things I missed in the second half of the film was the lack of phone calls before kills. If I recall correctly from a Scream documentary, none of the cast ever saw or interacted with Roger during filming.
@hoaxheaux2 жыл бұрын
But they both weren't there! It was only Billy, right? The next day Tatum says Stu was with her "all night."
@RKsolid55862 жыл бұрын
@@hoaxheaux I respectively disagree. First, they both visited their girlfriends that night to provide the same alibi if questioned. Ultimately, the alibis wouldn't have mattered because Billy and Stu were using Neil Prescot's cell # to make the calls that night. And I believe Tatum's line was "Stu was with me last night, okay", this is film class, right? (a little Scream 2 joke) Then, the hanging of Casey's body. I don't know if you've ever tried standing up or lifting a limp, adult human body. It can be challenging for one person if you're not used to it, i.e. being a firefighter. Given the amount of time it took for Casey's mom to walk out of the front door (after the killer disconnected the phone while dragging her body toward the tree), there's not enough time for him to finish gutting her, secure the noose, hoist her without the parents seeing him. Whichever killer was knocked down by Casey with the phone, had recovered and met the other dragging the body at the tree. Finally, and this detail is small and easily missed: when Casey's parents arrived, the front door is open. Casey did not go out that way. The killer at the patio would have seen it if she had as their was direct line of sight between the front door and the patio doors. The first thing that killer does when he enters the house is to open the front door to let the other killer in to look for Casey. It is a big house after all and they are limited on time. The original plan was for Casey, after seeing the chair come through the glass doors, to run out the front door (since it's on the other side of the house) right into the other killer. Instead she went to the kitchen and out a side door. The point is that the front door was open because one killer opened it to let the other in. All these details and Billy's statement saying that you die even if you answer the question right, lead me to believe that they were both at Casey's house and are both somewhat involved in any appearance of Ghost Face throughout the rest of the film.

Not to mention she is very loyal and pugnacious when it comes to defending her final girl bestie. But watching this now all these years later with the knowledge of knowing what Rose went through or was about to go through with Weinstein and her consequently challenging relationship with Kevin Williamson and conflicted personal feelings about how to sit with the franchise just makes it hit different. But I see her popping up on reunion panels these days with the whole original crew (although notably seemingly never ones featuring Williamson) so maybe she’s learning to embrace it a little more.

@@rnw2739 I'm sorry I don't know what business you're in, but I'm a casting director. @@asian-americanwithanopinio8954 Casting directors have no particular predilection for talent as is well known by the millions of films miscast over the years (Dick Van Dyke in 'Mary Poppins', 'Kevin Costner in 'Robin Hood:Prince of Thieves, John Wayne in 'The Conqueror', Heather Graham in 'From Hell'...I could go on and on and on) so the authoritarian air of your opening remark ("I don't know what business you're in but I am a casting director...") as though that automatically means your opinion is superior to mine and/or you're waiting for rapturous applause, is meaningless. Casting directors do not always pick the best actor for any role, especially nowadays, its all about who has the biggest social media following or some such other rubbish. Furthermore, you very well may be a casting director but clearly notna very busy one if you are watching KZbin clips of reactors and even more incredulously, commenting on them - announcing yourself and your 'magisterial occupation'. I can tell a good actor from a bad one....its piss easy. Acting is all about believability - when you believe someone they are good...when you dont they are shit. I did not believe one word coming out of his Lillards mouth as Stu.... I could see him 'acting'.... However, I will concede he was alright as Shaggy....but then again he didn't didn't speak in that role. Lastly, I would update your knowledge of film crazies if you cite Stu the ultimate. You should show them Anthony Hopkins in 'Magic' or Tony Perkins in 'Psycho'. To say Lillard gave the definitive off his nut crazy person performance as Stu in 'Scream' proves you either haven't seem many films or you share the psychiatric instability of his Scream character.

Similar to how "singing like a canary" meant telling who was involved in committing the crime(s) in question. Like ratting someone out. I head a rumor that Dewey was intended to be one of the killers but Craven changed his mine near the end and didn't want to reshoot just to keep fans guessing.

Movie trivia. Neve Campbell and Skeet Ulrich not only starred in Scream together but they also have on screen history together in the form of working on the 1996 movie The Craft. The Craft was released in May 3, 1996 and Scream released in December 20, 1996

I was so looking forward to this as soon as you started scary movies -- this movie is peak fun combined with slasher -- and I was 99% positive that YOU would love it. Anyway, I think Syd is my favorite -- such a boss, yet still feminine.

Sidney is my #1 favorite, too, she had a huge impression on me when I first watched this at age 5 (no kidding, I even had a kid crush on her).

If I mind correctly, when Drew Barrymore's dad tells her mum to "Go down to the street to the Robertsons" (?? something like that) is the same line that Jamie Lee Curtis says in Halloween to the kids.

I didn’t realize how big of an impact Scream would have on me when I first saw it. It ignited a passion for the golden age of slashers that hasn’t quit 25 years later. I sometimes wonder if Prom Night would have been another forgotten relic had it not been so name dropped in this movie.

Such a great movie. Matthew Lillard is such an underrated actor. He has quite the range. He can do phycos well and can go in the other direction like he did with Shaggy. I know the Scooby movies were not movies of the year, but Matthew really brought shaggy to life. Everything I see him in, he always nails his role.

My all-time favorite slasher horror film along with _Halloween._ Directed by the late but legendary Wes Craven and written by the underrated Kevin Williamson. Sidney Prescott has always been my #1 all-time favorite movie protagonist out there (and a huge influence on my protagonists as an amateur writer), she's honestly the REAL star of the Scream franchise. And this was the movie that had gotten me into Whodunit mysteries of which I am a huge loving fan of.

This movie was a revolutionary film for the horror franchise and it’s my favorite for me it goes from Scream, Scream 2, Scream 4, and Scream 3 I love all of them and I’m glad the Mrs loves it. What I find most scary about this franchise is how realistic it is just a person in a costume with a knife and it could be anyone close to you

Fun Facts: - So when Tatum said to Dewey that the janitor is your superior its true cause the janitor at the school that was dressed as Freddy Krueger was Wes Craven lol. - Billy AND Stu were at Casey's and used their girlfriends as Alibis for being out. Stu was on the patio with Steve while Billy was in the front tormenting her on the phone. The question about "Which door am I at" was a trick question. Stu ran to the front door to let Billy in. When her mom was hearing Casey breathing you hear one talking to another saying tree and the the phone ends. - Wes Craven lol to get his actors into character emotionally like Drew and Neve right before he start to film he would run up to them and tell them something sad like dead puppies and then run off and yell action lol. Drew's emotions were legit cause of Wes and for her love for animals lol. - Also to give the actors that real fear feeling for all of his Scream franchise. Roger L. Jackson the voice of Ghostface no one was allowed to see him before filming or during. When he made his calls Wes kept him hidden from a distance to give them that natural feel of terror. Roger L. Jackson also improved lot of his lines as well. - They casted Skeet Ulrich (The Craft, As good as it gets, Riverdale) as Billy and gave him the same kind of hair style cause of how close he looked like to young Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street where who climbed through a bedroom window. - When Billy came through Sidneys window the first time "Fear the Reaper" was playing in the background. - The news lady that was harassing Sidney "how does it feel to almost being butchered" that's Linda Blair from the Exorcist. - If look really closely when Billy was "stabbed" in the bedroom you can see Stu adding the fake blood onto the knife. -Casey's comment about Nightmare on Elm Street about how the first was good but the rest sucked. It's because Wes didn't direct all of the other ones lol. -Kenny actually saved Sidney in his literal final moment after his throat got slashed. He pointed to the back and told her door so she could crawl out. - Ghostface in the bathroom was a prank on Sidney it wasn't either Billy or Stu. - You were right Rose McGowan(Tatum) was actually able to fit through the doggy door. They had to staple her shirt to the door cause she kept falling out. - When Billy hit Stu in the head with the phone it was a accident on Skeets part. The fake blood was so sticky and ended up hitting Matthew Lillard instead of the desk and that was a real reaction to it. Wes loved it so he kept it lol. Matthew also improved his lines with "Houston we have a problem" "the peer pressure" and like you said the comment about his parents lol. - When Billy got stabbed with the umbrella the 2nd time it actually hit Skeet where he had heart surgery when he was younger that was also his real action to the pain. - Drew Barrymore was supposed to play Sidney. But she ended up changing her mind and went to Wes Craven with a idea to have her as the open kill cause no one would expect it. Also would show if they could kill a huge star right off the bat it would mean NO ONE was safe. - Originally Dewey was supposed to die in this but they loved him so much so they changed their minds at the last second and had him give thumb up at the end when he was on the stretcher. -Even though Billy was at sidneys for the attack. It was actually Stu who she fought with when he was tripping up the stairs you can hear ghostface saying "easy" "easy". The next day at the lockers he was checking his face in tatums mirror for any bruises and when Tatum was hitting him with her sucker he says "easy" "easy. -Billy was always 1 handed with his killing if he had a knife if didn't he resorts to choking except for Tatum he used the opportunity with the garage door. Stu uses both hands when using the knife and resorts to other tactics if doesn't have knife. -Stu was the one that called Dewey about the abandon car and also called Randy about the principal after the whole "I'll be right back". Billy killed the principal so they can use him as a deploy to get rest of the guests to leave so the real party can began

Curfews aren't about keeping people safe in their homes, it's about making it harder for the killer to get around. With a curfew in place, you can't just wander around unnoticed, so the killer would have a harder time getting to his victims.

Loved the reaction!! If you want to react to a early 90's horror movie with Neve Campbell, watch "The Craft", great movie!! Can't wait for the other 3 of the franchise, even though the 3rd and the 4th are not so great as the 1st and 2nd, and I'm looking foward for the 5th movie in the theaters!! My favorite character is Gale, so iconic, a real unapologetic bitch, and favorite kill has to be Drew, great open scene!!!
