"We aren't the only ones watching." The one way mirror scene thematically calls out the inherent voyeurism of any movie audience. The ancient ones are the fans of classic horror movies. If they aren't appeased by the ritual, i.e. following the standard formula, then they stop going to those kind of movies, and thus that genre is destroyed, in other words, its world ends.

Ive read a very interesting comment under another reaction video about this movie, by "Grumpy Old Guy Plays Games" "One of the reasons I love this film is that its all about hubris. The controllers have done this so many times that they no longer are as careful or precise about the sacrifices as they might have once been. They're supposed to gather up and sacrifice a bunch of young people who fit certain archetypes (the Virgin, the Whore, the Athlete, the Scholar, and the Fool). The problem is, they get the archetypes wrong. They've assigned the roles to Dana (Virgin), Jules (Whore), Curt (Athlete), Holden (Scholar), and Marty (Fool), when none of them actually fit those roles. Dana might seem virginal, but early in the movie she confesses to an affair with her professor. Jules is sexy and dresses skimpy, but she's also flighty and overly concerned with non-important things in her life; also she is in a clearly loving and utterly monogamous relationship with Curt, which hardly fits the whore archetype. Curt might seem like a jock, but his athletic skills are mediocre at best, and he's seen lugging around high-level textbooks dealing with subjects like the Psychology of the Soviet System. Holden is smart, sure, but at the same time he's clearly more athletic than Curt is, and while he has the raw intelligence, he's clearly lazy about it. And Marty... well, Marty might be a stoner but he also admits he's never had sex in his life. So... Had the controllers done the research, they would have realized that the archetypes should have been assigned with Dana being the Whore, Jules being the Fool, Curt being the Scholar, Holden being the Athlete, and Marty being the Virgin."

@migmit Жыл бұрын
It's really stupid when people try to rearrange the sacrifices to make them fit. Exactly as stupid as the controllers doing it as they did. In reality, ALL of them are pretty smart, and all of the guys are well-developed athletically. Dana might have a bad relationship, but she is more reserved than a whore archetype. Marty might be technically a virgin, but he doesn't fit a virgin archetype either. The point is: the controllers were trying to tell the same story again and again, but they really chose the sacrifices badly. Not just which one to assign each role; the whole group should not be made to play the game - or (speaking from controllers' perspective) it would be better to change the game entirely.
@TheNativeEngine Жыл бұрын

@crealkillr5 ай бұрын
my question is why does it have to be these people. Anyone can fit those roles. I also think the "underground team" was too lax, as all they had to do is get the teens there, and kill them. Why do they have so many killer entities, and why do they allow the teens to "pick" their killer? I would have rather send 2 killers in, and bet on which one gets the most kills.
@manny755862 жыл бұрын
They are 100% implying the Scooby Gang. Joss Whedon, who wrote/produced Cabin in the Woods, also created Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the film and the TV series). Drew Goddard, director of Cabin in the Woods, was a staff writer on the final season of Buffy. In the show, they often referred to Buffy and her friends as the Scooby Gang. So it's a reference to the cartoon and a reference to a horror series that also co-opted the Scooby name, to add to a film that is referencing a ton of other horror franchises. Levels upon levels here haha.

The unicorn in this movie is actually the most mythologically accurate portrayal of a unicorn in modern media. Unicorns were frothing, carnivorous psycho monsters that stalked, killed, and ATE people. The only reason they are associated with innocence is because a pure and innocent maiden would have the opposite effect, their rage would be calmed and they would lay their head in the maiden's lap, allowing people a quick and easy shot at killing the rampaging magical murderhorse.

There's just so much attention to detail which makes for some seriously high re-watchability. Not to mention the fact that it's perfectly paced and stays entertaining from start to finish. The reason that Marty was wearing that bulky sweater all the time is that the actor (Fran Kranz) was more jacked than Hemsworth at the time. Hemsworth went from starring in an Aussie soap opera to filming three US films in one year: Star Trek, A Perfect Getaway and this one. On the disc commentary Drew Goddard said that he got the news of his casting in Star Trek while he was filming this one.

Raccoon can be eaten, apparently the person preparing it has to know exactly how to prepare it though. It has certain glands that need to be removed, I think. Plus, there's always the possibility of parasites. So, you can eat raccoon if you do it exactly right, but I personally would not advise it.

The year this came out, I went to The Cabin in the Woods Haunted House at Universal Studios. As we walked through, we turned a corner into a hallway of elevator doors. And MF, we had to walk down it. And yes. They all opened. It was bad.

This movie is just way to much damn fun. Saw this in theaters thinking it was gonna be your regular horror fare... oh man came out so happy. It's a love letter to the whole horror genre. While being a really solid film itself and making fun of all the tropes. And I love that they consitently talk about how the customers demand more... us. The literal paying customers of the film. It's just so brilliantly written, and fun.

This movie is very meta, making homage to 1980's and 90's horror films. It was intended for a 2009 release date but was delayed as MGM was filing for bankruptcy. It was finally released in 2011.

It's quite simple when you think about it. In this movie us as the veiwers are the Anciant Ones because we demand blood and violence when it comes to horror movies and when we don't get that the people rise up and get angry. The different catagories are basically what one expects in a horror movie and yes the vigin's death is optinal because that's how most horror movies work. They failed to have what the veiwers wanted and thus in the end the Ancint Ones rose up. Also I think it's also talking about sociaty and the fact that death and violence has always been something that mankind has craved to see and they are showing that in a way that is saying it's not a good thing that things are that way and we need to change some how. Apparently the only way they could get Segorney to agree to act there was have a werewolf in the movie she was so excited to see it and took pictures on set with the actor that was in the suit.

This movie is a meta for Horror movies. This film exists to keep US THE AUDIENCE (The Ancient Ones) happy. That is the point of this movie. It exists to make US happy.
@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps2 жыл бұрын
It's a little more than that, it's also that it basically keeps the Patriarchy (or whatever we want to call it) in power. It's like in the beginning of I Know What You Did Last Summer when one of the characters says the escaped mental patient's hook in the scary story is a phallic symbol because his victims are teens doing the deed in the car. In other words, it's like "Yeah, the least hedonistic, the Bookworm Virgin Final Girl, is free to make it but the rest, they're so dead, because letting teens just make their mistakes is just allowing wholesomeness, nuclear family and apple pie collapse which just opens the door to chaos."
@Riggswolfe2 жыл бұрын
One thing I want to point out. You guys touched on it briefly but the movie does tell you that they have to choose their fates. Had the group ignored the basement they'd have had a fun if potentially odd stay at the cabin and gone home in theory.

What I like about this movie is it suggests a hitherto secret underlying motive behind all the other horror movies where innocent people die, it's not just senseless killing by a maniac but rather an orchestrated attempt to save the world... again! If you guys haven't seen it already, I highly recommend "The Final Girls". Another great reaction, 2 thumbs up! :D

I loved how this movie is a parody of slasher films. And it pokes fun at the genre. The Ancient Ones are in reference to the audience. Favorite part of this was when they reference the incident in the 90's where America failed. This is a reference to The Faculty who had all the architype for each character. But no one died and they fought off the monsters with homemade drugs . All and all, I found this movie to be fun.

Actually this is a throw back to everything Buffy the Vampire Slayer ala Josh Whedon created. Every monster and even few Buffy characters are in this movie but every monster in another form in this movie has been in Buffy, even the straight jacket creepy moving things 21:05 - 21:15 What you said there is actually an entire episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer but on the high school/college level

Which monster was my favorite? Man, I can't say but I will list my top five in no particular order: 1: The Zombie Tank: It's from a video game called left for dead. You can see it ripping a guard in half during the free for all. 2: Kevin: Kevin was a serial killer from the movie Sin City, you can see him in one of the elevators early in the film 3: Angry Molesting Tree: This monster was inspired by Harry Potter's Whomping willow. You can see it explode a guy when the teens let all the monsters out. 4: The Sugarplum Fairy: The ballerina with a face full of teeth. The wife said it reminded her of IT. 5: The Witch : Also from the video game Left for Dead. If she sees you she chases you indefinitely. You can see her ripping a guard's face off during the big fight.

If you've watched many Joss Whedon shows, you may recognize actors from Dollhouse, Angel, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Whedon has said he created Buffy the Vampire Slayer because he was tired of seeing the one blonde girl in horror films who always gets killed, so he made a blonde girl who killed the monster instead. Watching this film co-written by Whedon that does a lot of the things he objected to was certainly a strange experience. Of course, we've since learned a lot about Whedon.
