Great video - brilliant concept. One thing I'd note for those of us who are young with little ones - don't neglect your own retirement for the sake of getting your kids ahead. It's far more of a financial burden on them when their parents are entering their retirement years with little saved and the medical expenses start piling up. The last thing you want is for your kiddos to be in their 40s and have to start financially providing for you as well as your grandkids who are starting to graduate and enter college themselves. Sure, if you have enough cash to fully prepare for your retirement AND set your kids up for success - absolutely do that; but don't sacrifice your future for them. Hopefully, with what we've taught our kids they'll be able to find their own way and make their own success regardless of what we're able to provide.

I would definitely watch/listen to your book reviews. You have the ability to make things super digestible in a really short amount of time. Top tier skill.

My parents don't have any wealth but last year they passed two apartments (the one they still live in and the one that used to be my dad's office before his retirement) onto me at 33 and it really changed my life so much, the peace that came with not having to worry about affording rent and having a safe place to return to is incredible, and it's something I wouldn't have been able to afford in the next 10 to 20 years on my own. I don't think I'll ever have kids of my own, but I would say this makes a lot of sense.

I need my dad to watch this video. He's 19 years older than me and my family routinely lives into their 100s. My in-laws are struggling with money in their late 60s and my wealthy gpa-in-law turns 99 in a couple months.

Congratulations on the newest addition to your family. I love this idea. I had been kicking around a similar idea for my niece who is currently 2.

My in-laws ended up gifting us a down payment for our first starter home 8 years shortly after our wedding. I would love to be able to do this for our kids as well. With YNAB plus enough time, it's very possible!

We're building a "Launch Fund" for our two daughters, the intent is to hand it to them when they turn 25. Right now our goal is $10k each, but as our expenses and debt decrease it'll probably (but not guaranteed - we might want to travel more) be bumped up.

I can't express how much I love this! We have young ones as well and have been trying to figure out how we want to handle money with them (college, cars, allowances). I understand this may not be useful if you are still trying to get a handle on things. We have been having trouble setting a direction now that we have most of our bases covered (retirement, HSA, true expenses covered). So what comes next? I am sure a large portion of YNABers are in this group as well. I too would be in for any and all book reviews and a break down of their philosophies. Particularly those about personal finance of course!

I saw that book cover at the YNAB Facebook group a while ago and I always read the title as "Die getting all you can with from your money zero and your life" 😂 I will be debt-free (my house loan ends in 2028) and I'm very excited to it (I'll hit 43 when that happens, a bit late but better than never), since my loan is practically 1/3rd of my monthly wage. I am child free for now, but let's see where it goes; I might revisit this topic again when I finally have kids. For now, the budget is too tight to even think about my own wellbeing, let alone others unfortunately. A suggestion: I like the idea of resources as the outtro, but probably move the text higher or display the KZbin outtro a little more late? The "next video" card obstructs some text (yes there's a few seconds when it doesn't cover the text, but a full text would be nice).

Love this idea so much, 30K by 30; going for it. Too bad YNAB targets only allow 10 years in the future. I guess I'll have to do the dreaded thing. MATH. 🤓😜

Yay! 🥳 Are you sure it only goes 10 years? I set all my targets in YNAB, and it allowed me to go past 10 years. I was in the web app, though - the mobile app might be different. 🤔 - Ben M 🤓
