Young Elon Musk - Interview 2007 - Full Version
The lost and rare interview of Elon Musk in 2007 with PBS Wired Science explaining his plans for both SpaceX and Tesla for the future.
Elon Musk is interviewed on the premier of the WIRED Science show on PBS. The first part of the interview is about his investment in the Tesla electric car project. Seems that he's put LockMart and Boeing out of business, and he's gunning for Porsche and Ferrari. The interview then moved to SpaceX. The interviewer pointed out that there is a lot of enterpreneurial interest in space, with Bezos, Branson, et al. He asked Musk about the market competion facing SpaceX. Musk paused for what seemed to be a long time, then answered "We have no competition."
Courtesy: Musk on PBS thread on NASA Space Flight Forum, Musk on PBS on: 01/04/2007 03:21 pm
Interviewer is: Brian Unger
At the time of this interview Elon Musk was 35 years old.
Elon was playful when answering to interviewer’s comment about age, decoded 12+23=35 years.
Elon Musk is born on June 28, 1971.
Young Elon Musk talks in the Interview about:
Humanity
SpaceX Falcon9 rocket
Dragon spaceship
Mars
Competition on space exploration
Planetary life
Tesla Motors
Tesla Roadster
Model 2 (=Model S) and Model 3

He crashed it later, said watch this, then floored it. In an interview he said he laughed afterwards, saying the funny part was it was not insured. He has always liked fast, but when he gets to creating products for the budget market, price and reliability are more important.

How ANYONE can ignore, wish to deny, or defame a person that has worked so unfathomably hard, consistent and stayed true to his missions from day one for decades, is beyond me. No one would work as hard as he has done. For goals that are essentially for all humanity, both directly and indirectly. He knows he has to make them financially successful to happen, and all the haters see is the money. And they equate it with greed because of their envy. How can people be so simple and blind? The man has spoken his truth with his heart on his sleeve since the very beginning. Not hiding, not lying, not fabricating, like most leaders do. So rare, and apparently so rare that most people can’t recognize true realness and courage. I’m glad I am awake enough to enjoy the ride it is to follow Elon’s saga as it unfolds from the point of view of a supporter. Makes me sad that so many people are missing out on it and probably in 5-10-15 years will realize that he really did do it for everyone’s good and always carried the largest load himself.

There are several categories for a Nobel prize. Five or six I think... peace, literature, physics, economics and one or two more I forget. He definitely wouldn't win a Peace prize, that's given to humanitarians and revolves around compassion for humans. There is a category for physics, and that's probably the one most related to elon's work, but even then he doesn't fit the bill as a candidate for that prize. That's typically given to actual scientists/physicists who advanced the study of physics or bring innovation to physical sciences. Elon is a visionary, a risk taker, and is an extraordinary capital allocationist. But there is no Nobel prize where he would be a candidate to win. Maybe they should come out with a category for technological innovation or for being a visionary.

Funny to see people’s reactions, I watched some of his interviews years ago and always felt like he was speaking as though he knows what’s going to happen. So to see people recognizing that trait as well all these years later, man is on to something 🤔

This is not the time of year 2007, as per biography of Walter Isaacson they were not even able to launch Falcon 1 successfully before October of 2008. Then how come Falcon 9 and Dragon in 2007. Elon Musk didn't had enough money in 2007 for these projects.

@@Tresla Well he used to be left wing, but around 2015 the left became increasingly radical, alienating many centrist voters. The new radical left hated billionaires above all - regardless of what they used their money for. Elon found himself being hated by the very people who loved him only a year or so before. Frankly, anyone in this position would feel angry and betrayed. I don't blame him for being pushed to the right - like so many on social media - I consider him a victim of the times. Since then, the online left has embarked upon a relentless character assassination/smear campaign against him. Anyone voicing dissent against this campaign is met with nasty toxicity - aimed to shame people into either joining the anti elon cult, or just shutting them up. Facts are disregarded, compassion is disregarded, all that matters is bringing Elon down - and the ends always justify the means... apparently. Elon is a human like the rest of us - we are all flawed. Nobody is perfect. And yes, the vast majority people who post online have at some point made stupid comments. We forgive ourselves easily for mistakes, poor judgement, we tell ourselves we will do better in future. But when it is someone we don't like, it is all too easy to offer no such generosity and write them off altogether. This is no way to live, I'm not religious, but I do believe that understanding and forgiveness is essential to the future of humanity. As the saying goes, hatred is a pill you swallow while expecting the other person to die. At the end of the day, his contributions to the long term future of humanity are undeniable. I try to keep that context in mind on the topic of Elon. Never let perfect be the enemy of good.
