I had a ride in a series 1 XJ6 in 1968 or 1969 when I was hitch-hiking from Edinburgh to Cambridge. I was used to Mk2 Jags, which I loved. I was very impressed, if not amazed, by how smooth the XJ6 was. One of my uncles had a Mulliner Park Ward Silver Shadow and my girlfriend's father had a mid 1960s Mercedes W112 300 SEL that I'd driven. The XJ6 beat the lot of them for comfort and smoothness.

Absolutley - I could not agree more. As a winter "beater" I bought a M/Y 2000 X308 V8 LWB in March 2020 - thought I'd keep it for a few months before getting back into a S/C Range Rover. Yes my friends say I look like a Pub Landlord (no offence) or a 3rd Division football manager (I'm working on the comb over!) I'm still amazed at what value these cars are, how enjoyable they are to drive and the sheer joy it imparts on every trip (I do circa 8k miles a year in it) - plus its such a pretty car.

I had one the same, but in silver with an LPG system. Just superb! It loved to waft along at very good speeds, on the motorway I always got 30 plus to the gallon, with the LPG on it lost a very small amount of power, but at half the cost of petrol, I was happy to put up with that loss..... the equivalent of over 60mpg in something this comfortable is almost too good to be true. Every option worked, and mine had the lot including the factory phone. I had to let it go when the main break pipe to the rear burst on the way for its MOT! they are hidden from view and not easy to replace, the one across the rear axle requires the axle to be dropped down! If you put the J-Gate ‘in gear’ it doesn’t necessarily select that gear. For example if you select 3rd, it means that 3rd is the highest gear that it will select. It might use 1st, 2nd or 3rd depending on your driving style. This is a game changer for your driving experience when using the J-Gate and makes the gears changes much more suited to fun driving. Try it next time, the J-Gate is often misunderstood.

I’ve been running a 2006 XJ6 Sovereign for 2 1/2 yrs - an ex-JEC member car in outstanding condition. Previous car was a 335d 3 series (utterly rubbish BTW with a torturous ride) with 911s various BMWs, Mercs an i3 rex(great car) before it, and I can honestly say that it is one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. I’ve just spent rather a lot on it at a noted specialist to make it perfect, but really, it’s worth it.

I bought a 2007 jaguar vandenplas earlier this year here in the 🇺🇸. You don't see these cars here that often. Overall really nice car, but it does have some issues like the headliner falling down. Rides really good. I really like these older jaguars.

Well funny you should mention the running costs of the Mini. We had a JCW R56 which was a nightmare. The engine was rebuilt twice and it was still a whole heap of trouble, I am defo not going down the Mini route again. The Jag still feels/seems like a bit of an old man's car but then I am no spring chicken so am I going to eventually come to enjoy a comfy pair of slippers? I suppose I owe it to myself to try one....That was a sensible review JayEmm and one which I will strongly consider.

There really is just something epic about these Ford-era Jaaags, especially the mighty AJ30 engine. So good even the Queen's personal X-Type estate has one

I have had 2 XJs, 1st was an xj300 4litre paid £2100 for that in 2006, second one an xj308 3.2litre which cost me £1200, I kept it 18 months and sold it for £1600, I now have an xk 150 4.2 2008 60th anniversary edition, all have been fantastic cars.

Wish I hadn´t watched this! I was about to let my E39 BMW Touring go and look for a 1-owner X-Type, since they are cheap, reliable and a little smaller! But the XJ is of course a dream and to my surprise they are affordable and now I don´t know what to do...

The only mistake here is the patchwork shirt! That`s a lot of bang for your buck with that old Jag in all fairness.

My father always had Jaguar cars, the first one he ever bought in the fifties was a Jaguar 1½ Litre. Later he got a MK 1, than several MK 2 after those also several S Type a Mk X, which he not really liked to bulky, a E Type Series 1 4.2L and finally a 420.

Greta video. Who doesn’t love a cheap big saloon? I do! I can vouch for the Jaguar XJ experience and I had one (X300) recently and I loved driving it, but working on it was challenging at times and required time I didn’t have. However, if you have the time and buy a good car, it’s a very rewarding experience.

This is a fantastic example of a car that is well kept and the price !!! WOW. If the owner spent some money on a full detail of engine bay and whole car. It would look excellent. A prime example of the bargains that can be found on the second hand market. Well Done !!!!

I literally have the exact same spec car with the 4.2L V8, purchased for U$4k. The only non-wear item (i.e. tires and brakes) that I had to replace was the air compressor for $500. 10k later and no complaints - absolutely fantastic product from JLR.

US here so little ignorance however, this seems like a perfect "winter car". As I understand it Ford put a ton of money into the development of these cars and it seems like great vehicle, personally I always liked the look of Jaaaaags!.

I'd love to have an '87 XJ-6 but I love my '16 Mazda MX-5 too much, I drive it year round in New Hampshire, it's not too bad on snow.
@3ducs2 жыл бұрын
@Hector The '87 is a Series 3.

@Hector I got to age 75 mostly without those things, somehow managed to survive. Of course ABS and traction control are nice, I have to admit that. But look at all the things that are on cars now, lane keeper assist, following distance assist, huge entertainment screens, by cracky, when I was a boy we actually learned how to drive! I actually learned car control on dirt roads in the farm fields, the joys of oversteer and drifting.
@3ducs2 жыл бұрын
@Hector I live in a fairly rural area of New Hampshire USA. I usually see very little traffic and drive a few miles daily on dirt roads, very messy currently with roads freezing and thawing. In the spring we get mud season as the roads thaw from top to bottom, I have to stay off those roads then. It is also a time of frost heaves on the paved roads, this ruins roads after a few seasons. But the roads I drive are hilly and curvy, ideal for the Miata. I had a Series 1 1/2 XK-E in the early '70s, an XJ-S in the '80s
@3ducs2 жыл бұрын
@Hector Though the XJ-S was horrible in snow.

I remember being in high school and being so dead set on having an XJ8 Van Den Plas as my first car, no knowing anything about reliability or even how to drive for that matter. Long story short, I am older and more wise with my car desires and I have to say, I still want one.

Mate, I totally agree with you. I have had all sorts, v8 s5/ e60 535d 400bhp fiestas- mate all sorts. But I just got my hands on a mint 2.7d s type 2005 manual. And it has changed me 😂 the way it drives, the comfort and the handling is insane, let’s just say this will not be my last jag 🤙🏼

I have an XJR and can definitely recommend one for slippy stuff. Yes seriously, a RWD powerhouse. The day I picked mine up we dove it back through blizzrads and sheet-iced back roads, all on baldy tires thanks to the shoddy Irish MOT system. It was unflappable, I couldnt understand where it was getting grip from. Seriously thinking of buying a neighbours XJ6 for winter wheels.

I had a 1996 XJ Sport 3.2 V6 for a few years from 2010, paid £2000 it was black so looked very regal but someone had specced half cream leather and have cloth which had some crazy patch like pattern on the seats, never seen an interior like it. Was a lovely car, unfortunately someone else thought the same and attempted to steal it breaking the passenger door and ripping the ignition apart. They didn't get it started because I'd taken the battery inside to fully charge it. Got £1850 paid out on the insurance, should have bought it back and fixed it but someone else got a lovely car put it back on the road, it is still on the road in 2021
