@@greenAbbot Yeah, so? Beats the ever-lovin' f^^^ out of "gangstas and hos." Freaking 1989 was the early days of taking rap seriously, and this opened up the floodgates to more complex stuff. Then idiots tanked it by turning it into a cultural abomination that was violent and misogynistic. Yeah, "give us more of that"? It's a nice, light, fun little song, which is why it was a success. Deep? No. Pop songs rarely are, especially if successful. There are exceptions, and yeah, this one wasn't. It was also significant, in that it was part of the endless process of clearing out the deadwood, like Girl Groups in the early 60s, Disco in the late 70s, and Hip Hop in the 80s-90s -- each of them clearing out the musical deadwood that had built up, for the "next major sound", e.g., The British Invasion, New Wave, and Grunge, respectively. We need a new such, but, radio having lost its power, that cycle is broken.

Clean lyrics and no disrespecting women in his music.He is very educated and is a college graduate with a bachelor's degree.Not many rappers back then in the '80s possessed those qualities.

Broads loved to be disrespected just look at what they do to themselves. Men are just telling it as it is.

Hmm 🤔 I’m not sure we’re listening to the same lyrics here. Full of misogynistic nonsense.
@Jmcinally94 Жыл бұрын
Just because it's not using slurs doesn't mean it's respectful. There's a whole verse about how all girls are materialistic and only care about guys for their money 😂 I'm not even saying the song is bad or anything, but less sexist than others =/= not sexist. We can just look back now and see if attitudes towards women have changed since the 80s.

Ahem "Lookin' for love in all the wrong places No fine girls, just ugly faces" "Girls are fakin', goodness sakin' They want a man who brings home the bacon" "Some girls are sophistic, materialistic Looking for a man makes them opportunistic They're lyin' on the beach perpetratin' a tan So that a brother with money can be their man" Yeah, I love this song, but there is definitely a bit of shade thrown at women in the lyrics 😂😂😂

Never knew Flea actually played the bass on this song. Knew he was in the clip though - as skaters in the eighties we were both into hiphop and early albums of the Peppers. One of my close friends made a copy of Flea's pants and actually went to school in it :) Man, what a great era this was!
