In 2005, a Tibetan family from Seattle sent their 5 year old son to Nepal to be raised as a monk and revered leader in the making. As a direct lineage holder from the Sakya tradition, Sakya Dhungsey Asanga Vajra Rinpoche has been living and studying at The Tharlam Monastery in Kathmandu. In March of 2009, I returned to Nepal to shoot 3 stories connecting Seattle and Nepal for the Seattle Channel. This story was written and reported by Penny Legate with Pangeality Productions doing the camera work and editing.

I wish that I would be a lama monk for a monk since I was a child, and live in the Buddhist temple of Zhengxin Buddhist Temple for a long time and get close to good knowledge. The Buddhas are respected by the Dharma, until I convert to Bodhi, I use alms and other food to wish to become Buddha for benefit. May my daily blessings be rewarded with merit and rewards, and I will return to all ten beings to become enlightened.

Unfortunately in nepal tibetans are not able to practice freely due to the Nepalese government crackdown. For example Tibetans cannot celebrate the Dalai Lama's birthday and if they try the police come and break it up. If a Tibetan is wearing a Tibetan flag the police may stop them and ask for identification. Many tibetans are no given citizen even if they are born in Nepal because the government will not recognize tibetan refugees. This is all due to the influence the chinese government has in the Nepal government and the money spent and given from china to nepal

Sonam Gyaltso most likely (because i cannot talk for her) because she realizes that He will help so many sentient beings (He already is doing this) so she is thinking about the good for others instead of her own pain. In Tibetan Buddhism one lives for helping all sentient beings to overcome suffering and reach enlightenment. (I live in Dharamshala with Tibetans since 15 years) Your name is Tibetan, where do you live ?

This is Western perspective. It is Rinpoche Himself who chooses where to be reborn. No one can replace a Rinpoche, it would be a great loss and step backward if all those precious imprints of many incarnations of practice and realisation would go to waste

Some reincarnated lamas are born to peasants. It is not a ‘caste system’ like in India where the family you are born into determines the standing you have in society.

sonam choki differenicate? You may well be Buddhist, but a difference in opinion is only natural. That being said, I don't think he'll grow up and not be Buddhist, in case you wonder why I think. I've actually got mostly positive views of Buddhism, even though I'm not buddhist. Far better than most. :)

One can always leave monastic life that doesn't mean has to leave Buddhism. There are over 260 rules that one need to follow in a monk's life in a monastery. There many who left monastery later in life as they cannot observe it. Buddhism is not like other religions where you have to worship God or Almighty to a ticket to heaven. Buddhism is improving self through working on your negative emotions, deeds and work towards a more wholesome positive.
