As a diehard Marino fan(and later on, a Manning fan), this one of those games that I’ll never forget. Marino was probably around 38 years old here and this might have been Manning’s second year in the NFL. . I would eat, sleep and breathe Marino my whole young life, but seeing a very young Peyton Manning shred this incredible Miami defense was highly impressive. This was an extremely strong division at the time as well.

This is by far the best one NFL throwback put on because I’m a huge Dan Marino fan and a Dolphin fan. Despite Marino never winning the big games, he was by far the greatest QB to play the game back then. And sadly, that 99 year was his last due to neck issues, imagine if he stayed till at least two more years with the Dolphins (or he could’ve went to Minnesota via Free Agengy) the Dolphins would of at least made it to the AFC title game, especially with that defense they had in the early 2000s.

@@taydafranklin7800 would you take Steve Young, the Dolphins team and coach/management over Marino, the San Fran Team and S.F coaching/management. I could be wrong but I believe a Dan Marino with a stellar team surrounding him and those 2 chumps Jerry Rice and Terrell Owens catching passes thrown by Marino might have been capable of winning a tad more than Young could have with the Dolphins roster. Remember Steve Young stint with Tampa to start his career? Yeah, I'm pretty sure if Young remained there he would have been an after thought shortly after. It's amazing how football is such an all around team sport but people criticize or severely downgrade a players ability to win games without taking into account every factor surrounding them. Anything could happen had Marino been blessed to play in San Fran but I would be willing to put my money on him having won plenty of Super Bowls there. I have this feeling that Walsh could have found a way to win with a lesser QB like Marino ;)

@@Orion2269 it's amazing how people, most anyway judge a qb by their rings. And your right, Marino in san fran would have resulted in a lot of rings. Buffalo would be 4 rings and Marino in present day new England would have as many as brady or probably more.

Wrong. He was always in over his head in big games. Defense doesn’t win anything. Run games are wasted downs. It’s Situational Passing and Situational Execution. Marino never executed to the situation. His one Superbowl, needing to score 24 more points (something someone like Brady would do) he instead threw two picks, failed on fourth down, and fumbled the ball

Wait... the INDIANAPOLIS Colts were in the AFC EAST and not the AFC CENTRAL? Was it because they were in Baltimore?

Yes.....a lot of teams were in odd divisions before the realignment in 2002 because they moved. Phoenix/Arizona cardinals were in the NFC East because of all the years they were in St. Louis. Then you had the expansion teams being placed in odd divisions just to fill them out. Saints, Falcons, and Panthers were all in the NFC West at one time

Idno if Dan could get away with placing the ball down with one hand grip nowadays..pass rushers today would have a fumble probably 3 times a game

Jimmy Johnson was a huge fan favorite here in Miami because of his run with the Hurricanes, but his tenure as a coach for the Dolphins definitely draw some hate because of his coaching style. Dan Marino wasn't a fan of his play style which led to a abysmal end to Marino's career.

yea I can definitely see the potential for player/coach turmoil between Marino and Johnson.. and it was probably some of the same arrogance that led him out of Dallas. Nonetheless, JJ had some big shoes to fill in both respected franchises, and I will forever be a fan of his coaching style.

People were still running that stupid zone prevent defense back then. I just don’t get it. Colts ran the same exact play twice and got 40 yards. Terrible defense by Miami.

It's the Peyton Manning tax. No one gives his supporting cast their just due anymore. They undervalue their impact because of him. Edge, Marvin, Wayne, Clark all victims. Marv got HOF, but very few want to acknowledge he was consistently the top wr of his era, or even put him on a level with T.O. and Moss. The rest are waiting on HOF.

@@marvinstheman88 Edge played half of his career with Manning. He's the only frickin Colt you've mentioned other than Marvin who's been eligible. Reggie will get in. However, look at how the Colts did without Peyton, 2-14, it does make you wonder if it really was Peyton all along.

Marino could still launch it even in his later years however 3:44 shows that he had lost just a little bit of the mustard he used to put on the ball. If that’s Marino from 10 years prior making that pass, he hits the receiver perfectly in stride for a touchdown.
