So happy to have found this. I am trying my hand at a radiata pine and have found very little info. Your transformation is amazing. Any uploads on working on radiata would be awsome, maybe show the "straight" one you mentioned.

Perfect timing, saw this just as I was trying my hand at two pines. One a red pine and the other a Japanese white pine. Very happy with the result after following your lead.

Good luck and I wish I did that when I was young. You will be sooooo much better than me after your apprenticeship.

I wouldn't be confident to bend as much as that I would be worried about it snapping but I am still learning and I suppose confidence will come with experience. Great video..

HI David. Will Be a nice pine . l can see it happening. Normally would you leave the wires on for a set time eg 6 months but monitor for damage or just leave on until just before damage and choking is visible. cheers

I’ll always keep an eye out after maybe 3 months to see if it’s cutting in. Then check every once in a while to see how it is going.

Just checking the timberline for this work… you are just entering winter… correct? So for my pines here in Canada that would be in December, correct? Can it be done earlier? In the season? If so, by how much? Thanks for the informative video.

You can do this on young trees most times of the year, apart from spring. I like to let them grow untouched in spring. Once growth hardens off in summer you can start then.

Hiya great video, and thankyou. How do you go about reducing needle length with radiata pines please? I have a small tree and the needle's are so long it looks very silly.

I found there are a few ways but mostly it comes with age. The older the tree, the more branches, more candles/buds
@Bonsaiworx

And so the roots have to work harder to feed all the buds/needles which makes the buds candles smaller and smaller. When young it is very hard to reduce quickly but you need lots of candles and buds.

I know it took you ages to wire the tree and manipulate it but I would have watched that. Please
