In this final excerpt from "The Young Victoria," the queen, played beautifully by Emily Blunt, picks her handsome suitor Belgium Prince Albert as her first waltz partner at her Coronation Ball to what probably is a Johann Strauss the Elder waltz. This to me is the most perfect waltz scene in a movie with little doubt that here the queen falls in love with her prince. Not long after, they marry and have nine children, suggesting at least Victoria was not so prime and rigid as portrayed in her later years. Albert died at age 42. Available as DVD and streaming on Netflix.

Margielaw ...it was a great movie, but not very historically accurate.....the whole carriage ride/ Albert getting shot scene never happened.....although there were a number of attempts on Victoria’s life, nothing like that scene occurred...and I love that scene! It was so moving....they did argue over her reluctance to allow him any real responsibilities and somehow they did work through it, but not in the way portrayed in this film....still, loved the movie!

Yeah you are totally right, memorable soundtracks in this movie are all arrangements of well-known pieces from the 1830s-40s. The movie composer took credit for what he shouldn't have.

Heart stopping magical dancing with Prince Albert to a haunting piece of music. A lovely film and one to watch again and again and one which captures the Queen when she was still very young & rather vulnerable making her a much more attractive and romantic figure. So often we think of her as a stout, elderly woman but that's only a small part of her. At the time she became Queen she was very young (only 18) & we have never had such a young Monarch at any time since the early years of her reign.

I agree - too often when people think of Victoria they think of a fat elderly dour-faced woman with a hanky on her head, forgetting that she wasn't always like that. If you look at portraits of her as a young girl she was actually quite pretty, and was a graceful dancer and an accomplished horsewoman.

Even though she attained monarchy at a relatively young age, she was able to take the empire to enormously great heights. she is one of the greatest monarchs in British history and her memorial still stands high at promenade of the Buckingham palace which she lovingly nurtured.

I love ballroom dancing. I watch the old style waltz steps in videos like this. I get asked all the time where I took lessons. Modern variations remove much of the beauty of the waltz. The real beauty comes from smooth gliding and altering between face to face dancing and side-by-side. Steps that cater to the woman's beauty allowing others to see her grace and charm. The dance should ooze with grace and charm.

+Amber Earls I'm sure initially Lord Melbourne was concerned in reference to losing the 'control' he held over Victoria after she married; however, he grew to truly admire Prince Albert. He certainly "respected" him after Albert put him in his proper place to let him know that he [Albert] was No pushover, gullible, nor would he entertain manipulations or fall for any deceptions [unlike his wife Victoria].
