I think it’s interesting because I didn’t get the feeling of PERSONAL homophobia from Wille’s mom. She doesn’t seem to really care about Wille being gay, she cares about the their royal reputation. However, even if she isn’t personally, the entire monarchy is an inherently homophobic system and she is still playing into that and prioritizing it over the happiness of her son. Especially with the “unfortunate romance” comment.
@AnxietyRat3 жыл бұрын
Exactly. It's not overt homophobia. Moreso covert. But it's definitely still... There. Especially with the " unfortunate romance" comment. Though, that could still be class driven and not and issue with the homosexuality. I think more scenes with her could help clarify her stance. If it's classism or homophobia. Cause it honestly could be either. We haven't seen enough of her in the show to be certain.
@chebert9993 жыл бұрын
A few comments from me as I come from an older generation (I'm 54). When I discovered my homosexuality I was 16 too: no internet, no instagram, no cell phones. But still, I completely relate to this show and how it is close to what I lived in my first experiences. It's really amazing. I love that the characters are credible: they have acne and look like teens, no makeup and crap to hide the real life. Even with the "instant" messaging etc, they still have to pass through the acceptance of their feelings. And the chemistry between these two is just WOW. Even with my BF (which became my husband), we never had that kind of chemistry. Finally, the songs and music chosen are so POWERFUL. It's unreal how it plays a huge role in it. Listen to it without the music and some scenes are not the same. LET'S START A REVOLUTION !!!! I really liked the series. I hope we'll get more.

I’m Swedish so this reaction was the first time I heard the dubbed version. I would say, Willhelm lost his sadness and desperation in his voice. In English he kind of sounds more aggressive. The locker room scene is one of my favorites. So beautiful. I LOVE the ending to the season. Yeah it’s sad, but It’s realistically sad without being hopeless. You feel the hope underneath it because Wille hugs Simon in front of everyone and tells him he loves him. It feels like a promise. And the way revolution is playing just like it did when Simon rescued him on the football field. And the way Wille looks into the camera, whew! That boy is about to burn down the monarchy for love and freedom.

Thoughts on this finale: *Simon maybe does not realize one thing: He has an amazing support system, which we see with the amazing reactions of Rosh, Ayub and his Mother. He is fully supported where Wilhelm is mostly alone. *It is refreshing to see Simon has self-respect and stand up for his needs in the relationship, where he focused on Wilhelm's so often before. He was right to walk away and right that Wilhelm is the one who needs to work out what he really wants and Simon can't keep bouncing up and down with him. *So rarely do we see this dilemma that is common in the LGBTQIA community: one partner is out and the other is figuring things out; and that is HARD. All the work it takes to be out means that going back in, even for someone you love, is soul-bruising and feels like a step in the wrong direction. This show demonstrated this dilemma so we'll. *Love is easy, but relationships aren't. The love is clear here between the boys, AND Wilhelm needs to learn that relationships tie into class, culture, money and attitude in a way that needs to be addressed before things tumble down. *Felice is a low-key badass and is finding her worth *Simon is realizing that while he wants out of his town, his friends are amazing and true. I want more of them next season.
@georgeweatherford10273 жыл бұрын
He took a risk by hugging Simon in front of everybody and telling Simon he loves him. Melting over that one. Still, it is so refreshing that Simon has some self-respect and sticks to his guns. I ma sure he wants to say, "I love you" back, but still knows Wille has some growing up to do and some difficult decisions to make ON HIS OWN. Let's be real: Wille has put Simon on a rollercoaster over and over again. Sometimes love is not enough. Simon deserves to be cherished in public and deserves for HIS struggle to be acknowledged. Let us pray Wille gets this and makes an even bigger statement. Their chemistry is so flipping amazing that we can only hope, as this series has admirably done throughout it's six episodes, that the story and characters take the more human route rather than upping the drama.

@@CoreysCouch88 I think it's very important what you do here. You show makers that there is a need for authenticity. That something may be small and can therefore enter so much more intensely than those exaggeratedly large problems. (Not that being a crown prince isn't a mega problem in itself, but good). I like that being gay isn't portrayed as the problem as it is such a huge issue in every show. That's how Hollywood just makes it a big thing for young people. I think it's because creators will always be older, if you're from the sixties then it's been a really big thing in your teens too. Again it is important what you have done here. You've given creators a chance to watch the viewer soak up this show and finally breathe realness. I hope that netflix and Holywood (in Europe we also watch 90% of these movies) will see that it is done with fake and one stereotypical teenager. What I loved about Simon is that he is so powerful. So standing upright. He comes from a disadvantage when you compare his classmates and in normal series that makes people small or even worse 'brave'. This boy doesn't fight the upperclass, he stays himself and that's so fucking strong. And oh yeah, he's gay, so he corrects you when you say "girlfriend" and continues because that's not what it has to be about (all the fucking time). At 12:29 you say all these problems are because of August and I understand your frustration but I think it's the crown that is causing the problems. What case would August have had if Ville hadn't worn a crown? And everything is recorded, really everything. A friend of mine is an influencer, everything she says is considered and applauded by thousands of people. When I go out with her, everything is recorded and everyone wants to take a picture with us. I puke on it, for her it's her life. That is also the case for Ville. You can blame August, but if he didn't do it, the whole society would do it. It is the crown that makes it heavy. August is also just a teenager who has been abandoned by both his parents and has (most likely) never experienced the love that is so natural and so electric between Simon and Ville. He made a fucking stupid mistake but still, I don't see it as intense as you I think haha. It's still a teenager who made a mistake. I can understand that this action would cause him to perform the same action as his father did to himself(...). Let being gay be normal, let having Asperger's be normal, let having pimples be normal, let every body be normal and shine in it haha. Whenever someone has a port-wine stain, or a wheelchair, a color, a sexual preference, a handicap, then this has been chosen very consciously. Then there is a complete focus on that for an episode. Why do we never, ever see disabled people as extras? Why do we never see an almost all black class with only one white person? Why do we never see a transsexual teacher who is just a teacher and not immediately make a whole episode about how awful it is to be transsexual and how brave you have to be blah blah. It is bizarre what kind of image we are always presented with and what we have come to accept as the norm. Sorry to go on like this, but I'm really inspired by the beauty and love I've been offered by this show. Corey, as far as I'm concerned, you're just making up a seventh episode or just talk about those six before because I want to hear more of what you think and I think that's really important. You’re exactly right with everything you said at the end!! After two seasons of Love, Victor and their (in my opinion) desperate cliffhangers, I was so happy that this show came to a fulfilling close even if there are some strings left untied. 😂😂 Also Wille sounds a lot angrier in English; the character’s sadness and pain comes across much more in Swedish!

Love, Victor kept throwing in drama without giving the tender moments or the conversations the characters needed. This series did in six episodes what that one struggled to do with several more. so I know everyone thinks differently on this, but my take is that the prince being in love with a boy is just a big gossip thing to the school and the world, but the reason Wilhelms mother don't want him to be gay is because he is now the only one that can become king, and has to have a biological child as his successor, or else the royal family and bloodline changes drastically. Loved your reaction to the series, and appreciated that you see that the characters and their motivations are multidimentional and not as simple as it seems. As for the dubbing, the original language is always more emotional, but if the subtitles makes you enjoy it more, you should keep doing them.

That was one of the most amazing season of any show that I have watched. We need a season 2 ASAP. The ending was heart breaking. Once again, the acting by Edvin and Omar and the rest of the cast, the music, the direction, it all was on point. I loved how it was a cliffhanger but not one. The I love you part was so sweet and warm. My heart goes out to both. The end look where Edvin (Wilhem) looks directly into the cam was perfect, like I love him and I will burn this down to be with the person he love and that I can do both look. I think in season 2 which I hope we get, will show us the tug of war between the royal family and Wilhelm and Simon's love for each other and how the public, the media and the royal family will react. I also hope we can see Simon or his mother pay a visit to the Palace and or castle to visit. One thing I will miss is the brother interaction, I would have loved to see how Erik and Wilhelm reacted between each other after Erik found out, Most likely Erik would love him for who he is and be a supportive older brother. I think the only thing Willies mom cares about is how the royal family will continue after Willie takes over and who will take over from him. I think the queen doesnt care if willie is gay, I think personally she had something going on with someone that didnt go over well, I say this due to here “unfortunate romance” comment. I think WIllie took a risk by hugging Simon and telling him that he loves him in front of everyone and they were like yeah ok, they looked and thats all. Willie is slowly figuring out what he wants and he wants Simon and he just needs to think on how to go about it. Well done. I cant wait for season 2 with more eppy.

This show is so powerful. It focuses on the heteronormative society we live in, the way people of status are effected if they are caught being anything but straight. I love how they ended the show, Simon not saying I love you just shows his character knows exactly what he deserves, and it’s so powerful. Simon is such a strong character. Wilhelm is definitely going through a lot, and I don’t think it’s the right time for him to love someone. If they have a season 2 I can imagine him spending the holidays with his family being the crown prince and hating it, and just longing for Simon so much that he would do anything to get him back. August deserves so much worse, and I think the fact that Wilhelm says “you’re not my family anymore.” Is such a good response. Because all August ever tried to do, was stay on the good side of the royal family. But he got so angry at Wilhelm that he thought taking him down would give him some sort of joy. He doesn’t give a damn when he finds out Wilhelm payed his tuition, because it’s like he knew that outcome would happen. But Wilhelm saying he isn’t family is kinda like that’s it. Once he’s king, August is gone. I really love this show, it’s so powerful and beautiful. Praying for a season 2.

just want to point out that the song in the ending scene in this episode, when Wille hugs Simon and tells him he loves him, is the same song used in the football field scene in episode three, where Wille is high and Simon rescues him. i just cant get it out of my head, like it has to have some sort of meaning you know. it was played in episode three after Wille rejected Simon but then they still got together, and now here after the rejection but the feelings are still there. i dont quite know how to put it into words, but it has to have some meaning or hint regarding a second season if that happens. watched the show twice and didnt notice this until i watched your videos! i am from Norway and watched the show in Swedish since i understand the language, and i have to agree with the others that Wille sounds more angry in english than in Swedish, probably because his other feelings are easier to express through his native language. also want to mention that Edvin and Omar, as well as all the other young characters in the show, are such good actors and really took this show to another level because of how amazing their acting was. i feel like the queen and other adults in the show are not able to portray their characters as well as the young actors, which makes their acting feel quite average compared to the amazing acting from all of the young characters. and regarding the question 'is it because he is a boy?', i really do believe thats what its about. having a similar culture like Sweden, LGBTQ+ is so common and accepted in society, however, in the royal families and the higher people of society, its less accepted, because the blood line needs to be carried on and the engrained patriarchy in the monarchy.

In my opinion, it's more about Wilhelm being expected to continue the future Royal family line of succession by marrying the traditionally required female wife. The mom seemed unfazed by the gay relationship, and it's likely there would have been other known gay members of the Royal Family in previous generations. The likely accepted option for Wilhelm would be to do his royal duty with an arranged marriage, while keeping his gay relationship private, similar to many straight arranged royal marriages where both parties could pursue their own romances on the side, but kept strictly private > away from the prying eyes of the media & public.

@@Svtmme73 I had to go read that part of the constitution, and it actually only talks about heirs and descendants. There's nothing in the text about bastards or marriage. If Wilhelm marries Simon and has a biological child with a surrogate mother, the child would technically be a bastard, but would be allowed to inherit the throne, and continue the bloodline. Yaaayyy! :-P

Wilhelm's children with a husband would always have the genes of a woman he's not married to so they couldn't succeed him on the throne, so his royal line ends with him. It would all be so much easier, if he had a younger sibling to take over.

You’re reactions are perfect... honestly I felt the same way you did the whole time. I absolutely respect your need to watch in English especially since the actors did their own dub work, but if you do re-watch, now that you know the story I recommend the original. The impact is even more powerful somehow. Thanks for these videos! I’m desperate for a season 2. I also think the queen’s actions might be enough for Wilhelm to go rogue. Fingers crossed.

You responded to a comment saying that watching Skam now seems like a good idea and to that I say: PLEASE DO IT 😭 That show is sooo unique, you're gonna love it and I'll tell you why: - The episodes are between 15 and 30 minutes each and they're divided by clips that they would post on the official site at the "same time". For example: if a certain scene happens on a Thursday at 9:23am, they would upload that scene to their site on Thursday, 9:23am. Now, imagine being a fan of the series at that time. You're in school and suddenly there's a new clip, you go to the bathroom with your friends to watch it 'cause you cannot wait until you get home haha I even heard of people being at parties and the DJ stopping the music so everyone could watch the new scene!! And they'd do that through the whole week, then we had the complete episode on Saturday; - They also had Instagram accounts for the main characters and they'd post regularly there; - They interviewed real teenagers to learn about their struggles and how they deal with things; - They let the actors improvise a lot of things in the script and they would even suggest changes like "what if I said this and that in this scene?" The result of all these cool ideas was a show that felt completely real and raw with characters we can *really* relate to! Every season focuses on a character, we have 4 seasons but the series really exploded in season 3, which is the one focused on a gay romance and it even won an award for having the best scene on Norwegian TV at that year. I was thinking... The episodes are really short sometimes and we have 4 seasons to get through, so maybe you could do 2 episodes per video, if you don't want to spend too much time on this series (or if you want to get to season 3 faster 🤭). Idk, it's just a suggestion in case you really decide to watch Skam

I can't watch Elite anymore without getting annoyed by the insincere. It's so much more black and white and so much less real than young royals. Which teenager has such (gay) sex? It's adults playing teens playing a way too grown-up life again. It's nice fake but it's too often that we are presented with this kind of shit and it makes us feel small and insignificant in the end. How often do you see a Vilhelm or a Simon on television? And how often do we see the princesses like Carla, the Cinderellas Cayatena, the much too grown-up Valerios in series? This is what we're presented with as 'normal' and I don't think it's normal!

Royal family's concern is purely the bloodline. Wilhelm needs to provide them with heir, a successor to the throne so the royal bloodline can continue and keep the titles and wealth. They would let him have a secret relationship with Simon as long as he marries a woman (princess?) and produces royal children to keep the appearances for the public.
@Svtmme733 жыл бұрын
He can still have a biological child, and raise his son or daughter with a husband. The (royal) world should be ready to accept that.
@youwsernayme3 жыл бұрын
if it were real life I think the throne would just go to whoever’s next in line after wilhelm. like, surely he has other relatives like cousins etc, that would be the next heir after wilhelm. same as if he’d been unable to get a child or if he unexpectedly died, etc.
@AnxietyRat3 жыл бұрын
@@Svtmme73 A surrogate child is still legally concidered a bastard. I think a bastard taking the throne would work as an heir... But it would still tarnish their families reputation. Which they are trying to avoid at all costs, clearly.

@@CoreysCouch88 Yes and its a big step in royal history. But Victoria the current crown princess married a " commoner" so did Prince Carl Philip and princess Madeleine . Earlier in history the royals often married other royals from other countries. Excuse my bad grammar.
@gerganakantcheva81762 жыл бұрын
But isn't the bigger "issue" here that Wilhelm and a guy could never have legal royal heirs together? Looking at Prince Albert of Manaco, who also married a commoner and has children out of wedlock, and only the children he has with his spouse can succeed him on the throne. So if Wilhelm as the crown prince would come out as gay and eventually marry a guy, his children wouldn't be in line for the throne so his royal line ends with him. Wilhelm's children with a husband would always have the genes of a woman he's not married to.
@salmes1412 жыл бұрын
I think that it being a boy is fuel for the fire but not the whole point. Although Augusts reaction was probably mostly because its Simon specifically. The fact that he is a boy, that he is off a different economic class and had that whole exchange about the money with August. I also think that August leaked the video without much thought and was hurt and being petty but also with the intention of hurting Wilhelm as much as possible by not only releasing a video of such an intimate moment but also outing him.

One thing that bothered me, but also not, was that I didn’t understand the timeline. Sweden is not a homophobic country so I don’t get why Wilhelm’s sexuality was such a big deal.
