This song must have taken so much time. Definitely real musical skill to make. I'm not a professional music theorist, but here are some things I catch that put this song, and this band over the top. Making a good song into a masterpiece. -------------- The whole song musically throws you in all directions like physical waves, hard to find a center. I can interpret the lyrics about a relationship gone awry or drug addiction. Both fit with the vibe you get from the music. Throughout the song, the left/right channels keeps you guessing what is going on, adding to the waves feeling. The first verse is a polyrhythms with the guitar playing in 3/4 and the rest in 4/4 (known as common time because almost all western music is in common time). Something you rarely see in music. Only when the chorus hits the time signatures synchronize into 4/4, on the words "This is just the reason why I stay", as if this reason finally gives him balance, clarity in his life. The guitar part has a part that hits hard for me between the lyric gaps. It has a descending upper note that just feels almost desperate. In the second verse, you'll notice this time all parts are in 3/4 time, apart from drums. Still feeling some of the clarity from before as he begins with "Taste the grip", but then it goes to "Shake the soul", ending with a subtle bass drum boom.The guitar part altering between the left ear, middle and then right. I also notice a tiny gap in the sound here between the guitar notes that throws you off a little bit. At 2:46 the audio goes entirely on the left channel. I feel like I'm laying down and my right ear is covered. Depending on your interpretation, maybe it's laying down after a drug crash, or laying down after being heartbroken. The high hat pattern is un-predictable and strange (in a good way). We then get the synth like instrument. Very shaky sound, very trippy. -------------- This is easily one of my favorite songs of all time, I can just listen to it on repeat. Lyrics are profound, music is superb.

I can see why some would think this but its quite the opposite for me. It's a cool progression teetering on some dissonance. It's very unique sound that showcases some of the experimenting they've done with this album

Well I believe they dI'd too much experimenting. That's y so many songs like Camera and Daydreamer are poor in quality. U at least can agree that Camera should've been scrapped from the album.

No i'm very happy with the album. It's theirs to do what they want with it. This album is a step in the direction they want to go in and i actually quite like it. Yes it's different but i can still hear most of elements that make these guys who they are. And yeah they obviously had to do a lot of experimenting to find the sound they wanted. i mean they've been working on this thing for over 2 years, but its also this reason why some are very disappointed. people came back to them after 2 years of waiting expecting them to be just like their 1st album which i think is asking too much of any band.

Justin adams I only listen to this song for the first 2:45 of the song, after that I change it cause the second half is terrible, wouldve been so much better had the song continued like it started. oh and by the way, I really like daydreamer and camera, I think Eros and firelight shouldve been replaced with something else better. Anagram, its about time, Crystallized, M.O.M, daydreamer, camera, teachers, waves (the first half) and the last one (I cant remember the name of it) were all very good. bought the album as soon as it came out! :)
