As a serial plant killer, I had given up on plants completely until I got a cactus a few years ago. That thing is thriving....I now have 10 different types of cactus and it's a bit of a problem. :) Multiple cactus have already outgrown their pots for the 1st-2nd time and my original cactus has outgrown about 4 pots and I can't find a pot that is big enough but not too huge for my shelf.

As a Home Depot Garden associate, as soon as you said you found the sad little display of carnivorous plants I knew exactly what you were talking about. Every summer (and around Halloween too for some reason) we always get this green cardboard display with Piranha Plants slapped across it with like thirty small venus fly traps in these little plastic shells like they were a gacha pull. At my store, we have the display located near the the exit of the store leading into our green house area so yeah, they get zero sun light. I can't tell you how many times I've had to toss those little guys away down our trash chute in receiving. But if your plant dies with 30-90 days, you can always bring it back to get a replacement or refund in we still have that plant in stock. Also, Carnivine seems like a suitable name for your new little sprout.

No, mint in the ground outside and mint in a pot are veeeeery different in that regard. Mint in the ground: very hard to kill, will come back from anything and spread everywhere. Mint in a pot (especially inside): easy to accidentally kill even for experienced house plant owners who were really trying their best.

Soo, i was able to successfully put my flytraps in dormancy with great success. 1.)Get some pea sized gravel like at Petco for fish tanks but don't get the painted glowing garbage just natural rocks. 2.)Get a tiny Tupperware container like for a single sandwich, about 1 inch deep and about 5/6 inches length and width 3.) remove all the soil from the rhizomes of the plant and separate them if they're clumped together (honestly do this part when you buy them and replant them) 4.) put the rhizomes in the gravel and gently... GENTLY cover them. 5.) spray the gravel with the distilled water but don't soak it, if the Tupperware is like 1 inch deep the water should not really make a visible waterline. Just get the surface wet. 6.) put the lid on without any holes in it and pop em in the fridge. Even the back of the fridge is ok these things are used to freezing in the winter in their natural habitat in the USA. North Carolina. The tips and green bits will die off and the rhizomes will literally sleep for 5 months. I usually do mine from October/November to February/March, every other year 🥰 In the spring they will come back and make beautiful huge flytraps Best luck and happy napping 😋 Edit: and name it Kirby 😁 Venus Kirby

@spookburrow9288Ай бұрын
I'm sure plenty carnivorous plant owners have already mentioned their own dormancy experiences, but the most important part in my opinion is identifying the signs of dormancy in flytraps. (Drooping traps, as in the traps are much closer to the "ground" rather than upright, another sign is broad stems! Flytrap "stems" or the leaves, technically, become wider as dormancy begins. The purpose of this is to take in more light as they're accustomed to less in the winter) Dormancy for flytraps put VERY simply, is less light, cooler temperatures, AND less water. Some people will even put flytraps in their fridge for dormancy- BUT! I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a spare, fairly empty fridge or cooler for it. I've only done this myself because I have a mini drink cooler with a glass door that light can get through. Fridges typically could be risky due to humidity that could cause mold, so be cautious of that :)
