But man, those 6 shots a year look out of this world. Stunning photos. I do weddings so I have to produce hundreds of good images, but its usually out of those 2000-3000 shots I do on any gig, that I really like maybe 2 or 3 photos.
@Qlicky
@Qlicky 5 жыл бұрын
I started doing weddings really cheap and reminding the clients that Im still green so there might be stuff I will miss, and they had no problems with it because the photos I did produce were miles better than anyone in my price range, which admittedly was pretty cheap.. It doesn't take long before you get the inner workings of weddings. The rest of it is all your ability, and yes, its considerably harder than people think it is. Just like everything else, if you try to do it proper. I sometimes pull 22 hrs shifts when there is a lot driving involved. And people are actually amazed when Im dripping in sweat while trying to make the shots. It is physically challenging on top bad weather etc. But hey, it pays good, and I only shoot people anyways, so Im not complaining really. That new lens or camera body is not going to buy itself.
@blackSUAAAVE
@blackSUAAAVE 5 жыл бұрын
@@Qlicky - I'm that way myself. You go on a shoot, and take tons of photos. Many of them are good, yes. But there's that small, small few (that being low single digits) that you feel are breathtaking. If you're on a shoot where you got a ton of 'great' pictures, then odds are it was just too easy of an event.

His work is the first I've seen since Peter Beard's that really moved the art forward. Impeccable composition, contrast, lighting, tonal range, printing and of course truly remarkable tributes to earth's most charismatic mega-fauna and environments.

I've been making a living as a photographer for a number of decades...first as a PJ, and for a long time now working on Film sets. Anyone can be a photographer on any given day...but longevity, reputation and actually making a more than average living from photography takes a crapload of hard work and perseverance. You can have all the talent in the world but if you don't have the work ethic and dedication...the talent goes nowhere. There are many famous and highly sought after photographers who's work I personally find utterly uninspiring but they have worked hard and they have built the reputation they have...so I respect them for that. David Yarrow embodies talent, vision and a dedicated humble work ethic...and the added bonus of humility...a quality many celebrated photographers struggle to posses.

Coming from a film making perspective and getting back into photography, without the advertising mandate that I've experienced over 3 decades has been hard, but David Yarrow's comments are music to my ears. Am tired of all the would-be filmmakers and stills people all trying to make a buck, when in honesty a big percentage of their work is tripe. No wonder advertisers have a field day nowadays with regurgitated content and rock bottom payouts :) The best lesson is on the job :)
