958. Until the state of sleep in waking [i.e. the state of wakeful sleep or jagrat-sushupti] is attained, Self-enquiry should not be given up. Moreover until sleep in dream is also attained, it is essential to persist in that enquiry [i.e. to continue trying to cling to the mere feeling ‘I’]. Guru Vachaka Kovai

This is an interesting perspective. The concept of 'wakeful sleep' as a state to aim for makes me think deeply about self-awareness and presence. Thanks for sharing this quote.

@ When will the realisation of the Self be gained? When the world which is what-is-seen has been removed, there will be realisation of the Self which is the seer. Who am I? Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi

@@danielbagnall6523 That’s a deep question. The idea of realizing the Self by removing what’s seen is something to reflect on. Thanks for sharing this.

@ Investigate the truth. Find presence within yourself by the enquiry, ‘Who am I’? Meditate on the truth continuously during all of your waking hours. As in the practice of continuous presence until it becomes effortless presence. And then finally (one day at time unknown to you) Grace will spontaneously bestow the experience of wakeful-sleep where there is no body and there is no world. This is what’s called destruction of the ego or annihilation of the mind [i.e. ‘I am the body’ idea].
