Bug out bags are like work out equipment in people's homes, some use it, most don't

It’d be great if most of them used their BOBs in workouts, at least they’d get something from it. I feel having a BOB makes people comfortable. It makes them feel they’ve done something and they’re covered for whatever.

Used my BOB(actually an INCH bag) last August, town was evacuated because of wildfire (lost half the town). Worked well, after I got home to Immediately Grab and Go. Opened my door went to the bedroom grabbed my meds, chargers, extension cord then back to the door open, the coat closet pulled out the bag(24"rolling suitcase, because 73,heart and stuff). Was in and out in under 1minute30seconds, was fine . Had my ID, Insurances, thumb drive, jewelry, papers... All pre-packed and since then used online medical group to have meds to pre-packed and duplicated electronic accessories, added a water purifying unity out of my backpack/car setup. Push come to shove my little day pack would hold everything really important.

The only time I've used one is when the flat above mine went on fire. They evacuated the whole building at 2am. I have 5 children. At that time two of my children were babies. I had the things we'd need if the whole building were to explode by the gas or just burn down. Which the fire brigade gave me a few minutes to grab. Nappies, a couple of bottles of milk, purse with bank cards etc, keys, but mostly baby stuff that I know I'm going to need in the next few hours as I had no family to go to and so I thought ok at 2am I don't know where else to go but to go and sit in my car and see what happens. On reflection I'd probably have put in some underwear and toiletries and some ID like a passport at least and my insurance documents. This is actually what made me read your first book and look into prepping in the first place. I think it depends a lot on what kind of situation you think would force you out of your home. If it's the threat of losing your house through finances then fair enough prep your vehicle to live in etc if it's living with an abusive partner and life is crazy then you might want a never coming home bag!

It's better to have it and not need it , than to need it and not have it . A bug out bag is a place to keep the things one might possibly need in an emergency . Suggest two bags , one large bug out bag and a smaller empty bag into which you can fill the specific essential items needed , depending on the kind of emergency .This should take a few minutes only . Thank you . Cheers

Your bugout bag should be a bag that has everything you need to walk to one of your many secret buried gear barrels.

Excellent video and to the point Fernado! The only time I had to use my bug out bag when I had a building fire back in December 7th, 2017. It was the first thing that went out the window! Nothing of my personal belongings was destroyed just the smell of smoke. Now back in my apartment a year later.

The very basic concept of preparedness isn't only about recognizing what the most likely scenario would be, but also setting yourself up to survive the absolute WORST case scenario however unlikely it may be. A suitcase filled with money and clothes isn't going to help you survive the worst case scenario. The bag on the left should help you survive ALL scenarios if you set it up properly. My bag (which I don't even call it a bugout bag) has everything I would need to book a flight at an airport AND all the basic survival items that I would need in the worst case scenario where I have absolutely zero options. Any and all things that I couldn't take on a plane I could easily ditch before getting to the airport if flying out was an option. Obviously if I'm facing a gradual economic collapse and my plan is to get to the airport, then I can easily discard the rifle, ammo, fire starting items, shelter building tools at home before heading to the airport. The rest of my bag I can bring onto an airliner. If there will be threats on the way to the airport, then I'm not ditching that stuff until I successfully get past those threats. My bag does it all. Call it a preppers travel bag, survival bag, bugout......I don't care what you call it.

Exactly. If you use a backpack to bug-out from civilization (ie camping trekking backpacking etc) then you know what it can get you through, you don’t need a specific bag for that.

Most "people" are not going to be able to play "minuteman" or patriot. When the government goes down by whatever means, It's not likely to ever come back, nor should you want it to. Protect self and family = yes. "Fight whom"? Is exactly correct.

Great points. Be realistic is the theme here. Those who plan on bugging out into the countryside, had better have some skills that are off the chart, because skills are much more important than gear for survival.

But Fernando.... zombies. Isn't that why I have the Ferfal Survival knife? lol You make a great point. What is the bug out bag for? I mean, what is the most likely reason you're needing to leave your home? Where are you going? How long will you be homeless? That is what should determine the contents and size, etc. of your go bag. So, it could be a bug out bag or a go-bag... which is bigger and is for an extended period. Anyway, good discussion thanks!

A good way to test out a bugoutbag, is to do pilgrim walk to Santiago de Compostela, where you have to walk 900 km.

Interesting perspective, I don’t disagree but I still think a small bag with important things would be an important part of being ready, like having your ID and other important documents on a memory card, your passport close by, maybe your spare glasses, some cash… that kind of stuff. It’s important to also alter that bag depending on some real life situations that might be arising in your area or country. No you might not need a full load out and kit but you should probably always have an EDC based on your environment and everyday life.

I listened to the entire video instead of tuning out. Lots of people giving me advice on KZbin... blah blah blah. The "Eureka moment" was when you mentioned "ex-wife" and the lights switched on. Been there. I have that expensive bugout bag that most would admire, but how useful is this thing? Is it realistic? I need to take a big step back. If i had to leave because my home was on fire, would i give a !@#$ about that bugout bag? No. I'd be thinking, "What am I going to wear tomorrow (if I'm in my underwear sprinting out the door)? Where's my encrypted hard drives with all my legal stuff? Where's my weapon? What about my passport?! Crypto hard wallet?" Etc. It's a "reality bag" and it should be where your car keys and wallet are. Nothing fancy or expensive. Losing any of those things would seriously suck far more than sitting outside my home with a bugout bag and a gas mask on. Lol. I am thankful we live in a f'ed up world where we can still share common sense ideas. Thanks for the "reality" check.
