Basically, the "mining" is a process whereas the servers solve complex algorithmic equations in which to earn BTC (Bitcoins). The purpose of this is to validate the nodes on the blockchain that has a series of blocks (transactions) that are chained together with a timestamp (date, time of transaction) in which to validate it so that it can never be duplicated or hacked. What is done on one computer (transactions) will appear on ALL computers involved/on/sees the blockchain activity.
