It's pretty hard to believe that around all this time?. They can't even bring back a sega master system 100% collection?. If this they did bring back the glory day's wonder boy three the dragon's trap was epic?. Wonder the first?, Shinobi, teddy boy, ghost house, action fighter, wonder boy in monster land?. double dragon, sonic spin ball had great bonus stagte's, i alway's was amazed that streets of rage 1 & 2, had a 8-bit version?. Even though many would say that the sega mega drive version was more updated of street's of rage?. Yes maybe so, but the 80's was an amazing time growing up, as a kid the rock music was great in the 80's?, if they ever did bring back a collection, of what i listed i really hope they do, sega master system was amazing?, having that as a kid back in the day? with my older brother John was the best life i ever lived?.

On Shinobi. I could never pass the 9 Buddha heads at the end of I think level 5. My favourite game was Golden Axe Warrior. Not to be confused with Golden Axe. It was SEGA’s version of Zelda but better lol

Definitely an underrated console. I would say that the biggest issue with the Master System is they just didn't release enough games for it. I enjoyed mine as a kid, but I moved on to the Nintendo pretty quickly because they were just releasing so many games...and because all of my friends here in the USA had Nintendo.

Master System's graphics chip is really powerful for its time. It's basically half the Genesis' VDP in terms of background layers, sprite palettes, and sprite size, with a quarter of the RAM and an eighth of the color palette. To put that into perspective, imagine if the PlayStation could draw half as many polygons as the PlayStation 2 (~10 million), or if the PlayStation 2 had a quarter of the VRAM of the PS3 - that would have been 64 MB.

Nice list of games. Have a look out for a great game called G-loc a great plane shooter after burner style.or similar to Airwolf on nes only a lot better. Also star wars was so much better on ms than nes, shame only it was only released in Europe not a problem for me as I'm English but a shame the rest of the world got the poorer nes version. Sonic 1 is also way better on ms than mega drive. Rocky looked great for the time, still never finished it Drago is impossible, have you beat him?

Great list man! I actually grew up playing 8 of the 10! I was one of those weird kids in the USA who had a Sega Master System before I had a Nintendo. I got the Master System on Christmas in 1988, and I still have it to this day. I actually rented Black Belt on a Friday, and played it all weekend and beat it when I was a kid. I was like 10 at the time. More favorites of mine that I would add to the list are: 1. Vigilante (some may say this game sucks, but I enjoy some bad games because of memories that are tied to them.) 2. The Ninja 3. Global Defense 4. Rocky 5. Astro Warrior

Outrun is one of my many fond childhood memories of owning a Sega Master system. Plus Hang On and Safari Hunt that was built into my Sega Master System. In the 80s, I ordered Sega Master System from Fingerhut because they didnt sell NES. Since the Sega Master game cases are sealed with two Phillips screws, it's easy to be defrauded by dishonest people. I remember when I was a kid. On the last day of school, I traded my prized Vigilante cartridge to someone for their Shinobi cartridge. When I got home and put Shinobi into my Sega Master System, Walter Payton Football came on. I was one mad kid! Was unable to contact the punk thief's parents, since I didnt have any information besides the thief's name and teacher's name. Needless to say, he did not return to the school for the next school year. So I never saw him again. But I definitely learned my lesson.....verify cartridge before buying or trading.

Reggie Jackson Baseball is criminally underrated and I would go as far as to say it's arguably the best 8-Bit baseball game of all time. Everything from the huge animated title screen, the simple yet responsive controls, the digitized speech, the music, the sound effects when your bat connects after a pitch or you slide into a base, the cutscenes like when you are running to home base after a home run, the 2 player home run derby mode, the seasonal mode and I could go on and on. People sleep on the sports titles but Walter Payton Football was pretty good and I also got a lot of enjoyment out of Great Golf. But yo as far as Black Belt anybody out here hating on that game I can't take you seriously. That's a Yuji Naka classic and deserves just as much appreciation and respect as Girl's Garden or Alex Kidd. Either you like being contrarian just for the sake of shock value and attention or you're ignorant as hell to the context of how much of an impact that release had in 1986/1987. It might not have sold well since the system had a small install base but it was THE goto Kung Fu clone that completely blew scores of other games out of the water at that time both on console and computer.

One thing I loved about those games is that Sega was plastered over everything so you knew what you playing on, It gave a certain feel to the games on the console

My first console. I was the only kid in my school that owned one, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Got bit by the nostalgia bug and actually just picked up a console plus Choplifter and Black Belt. Plan on picking up Ghostbusters, Rambo, and Zillion next.

I can relate to hearing the Master System talk back in the 80s. Mine was Great Baaketball. "3 Point shot! Dunk shot!!" I had most of these games add in Kung Fu kid and Outrun.

I know both SMS and NES are eight bit but it seems like Master System tends to look better and more colorful than the NES. Reminds me of a precursor to Gameboy vs Game gear

many reviewers generally tend to ignore "rpg elements" in games. however it's very important in terms of classical games, while cross-genre elements were a way to provide a unique gaming experience back then. congrats for your concern.

Kenseiden was my absolute favorite MS game, I've spent a incredible amount of hours and maybe finished it more than a hundred times. The music, the general game atmosphere, the power ups, the boss fights, it was epic.

Black Belt is first one I played on the Master System. I absolutely loved it and then bought the console. Before that, I was not really into video games. My favorites on the Master System were RPGs : Phantasy Star, Ultima IV and Ys, although they are to play now, so difficult. There are very good shoot'em ups : Power Strike I and II are just fantastic for an 8-bit console. The R-Type port is really impressing also. For action adventures games, I really loved Wonder Boy II & III and Golvellius. For platformers, I think Psycho Fox is the best one.
