I've watched a lot of ableton tutorials and a ton of them give me analysis paralysis as a beginner. the pacing is usually really slow and dragged out before randomly speeding up or cutitng to a window/effect without explaining how they got there. as much as you did an amazing job explaining how to do what you showed throughout the video i felt like you also gave me the tools to play around and experiment on my own after watching the tutorial. Legitimately the best one i've seen. thanks so much

This video is SO helpful! Question.. for some reason when I add the kick into the simpler it is way softer than when I drop it directly into the midi section. Velocity is at the max for the kick in the simpler and I haven't touched any settings, any ideas? Wasn't experiencing this with the tom and hihat/cymbals. Thank you!!!

Why did you choose Audio track for the Clap? No piano roll control like the MIDI tracks, so why not just have them all as MIDI tracks? What are the benefits / differences of putting the drum as Audio / MIDI? Thanks!
@matttinklermusic
@matttinklermusic Ай бұрын
Great question! The main benefits of working with drums in audio is that you get very good control over the specific hits, as well as being able to see the waveform of the sound on the timeline, which some people like. That said, the point of this video was to just showcase the many different ways of sequencing drums, and you could do all of this inside of a single drum rack if you wanted to. :)

VERY HELPFUL, Why the hi-hat is in Audio track and not in Midi track?
@matttinklermusic
@matttinklermusic Ай бұрын
Hey! I'm glad you found the video useful! :) The hi-hat could just as easily be in a MIDI track, in fact, every thing could be. This video was designed to show pretty much all the different ways that you can sequence drums. You could use all the ways in combination like I did here, or simple choose one of them and stick to it. :)

Thanks Matt enjoyed this alot. I've taken it back to basics as I've gotten a little lost with music making recently so now it's just me my keyboard & mouse. I'm going to try & develop this further with maybe some simple bits like chord stabs & a vocal or something. One question is there a reason why you went with this approach rather than throwing everything into a drum rack, or a simpler on each channel? just curious!!

Thank you so much! What an awesome tutorial. Liked and subbed and I am going to check out your other vids now, once I finish the rest of this one. But, one thing I didn't get here, why did you start at 9 and go to 13? Why not 1 thru 4? Do you leave 1-8 empty for a place to "sketch" in an intro later? Kind of like a notepad space or something? THANK YOU!
@matttinklermusic
@matttinklermusic Ай бұрын
That's correct! I often like to leave some space at the beginning of the timeline, it's really personal preference.

Good tutorial, I know ableton is really in-depth to what it can do but this seems really complicated just to make a simple beat. I use komplete and Maschine and I can literally do this drum pattern in minutes. There’s no need to touch the computer it’s all on the screens of the hardware.
@matttinklermusic

The point of the tutorial was just to showcase the different ways that you can sequence drums, and you could really do all of this in like, 1/10th of the time on a single drum rack if you knew what you were doing. :)

I'm sorry, but this takes WAAAAY too long. The same 4-bar loop can be created using the step sequencer in FL STudio or ReDrum in REASON. Takes about 2 minutes. Every sound can be pitched, tone adjusted and volume controlled. Try doing this in Ableton in the same amount of time. IMPOSSIBLE! Why is Ableton such a drag when it comes to creating beat patterns??? Why can't they incorporate a step sequencer?
@MegaKerzo
@MegaKerzo 3 ай бұрын
I'm pretty new to things, but I thought ableton's main feature was being able to record and loop live, and it arranges it as you do it. Does fruity loops do this too?

You can get all of that same control in Ableton Live using the piano roll if you're using a drum rack very easily. This tutorial was really aimed at beginners who know nothing about the different ways to work with and sequence drums, which is why it's such a long video. You could do all of this, on one track, in 2 minutes on your own if you knew what you were doing. :)
